It looks like my worst nightmare for this album came true. Sophie Muller will be shooting the video next month. When I first heard the album, about 2/3 of it sounded like Alternative smashes and the other 1/3 sounded like they needed to stay on the album. Well this song fit into that latter half. I'd be shocked if this broke the Top 20 at Alternative. It's just not very melodic and it's way too mellow for Alternative.

This song is an awful choice. I'm not feeling it. They're obviously hoping the dark theme of "BLM" is better than the sugary lyrics of "Run Baby Run," but "BLM" is boring and not that good. Very poor decision.
This makes even less sense considering there are some GREAT songs on the album. "Run Baby Run" brings you in from the first 5 seconds onward.

It's my worst nightmare too.
The only place I can see this doing well is Triple A.
They really should have gone with Sex Is Not The Enemy or Bad Boyfriend (the buzz surrounding this track would make an instant hit with Dave Grohl and all).
Maybe they will decide to release this in the UK and a different single here. *hopes*
There is no logic behind this, and Garbage usually makes smart choices, which makes this even more baffling.
They need to have a strong 2nd single for BLM (the album) to have long term success.
Until I see an impact date I'm going to pretend this isn't happening. WDYLM is still going steady just outside the Top 10 for now anyway.

They really should have gone with Sex Is Not The Enemy. Yes. "SINTE" has a killer chorus that sounds right in line with what is popular at Alternative now plus a classic Garbage sound. I'd have thought it was a no-brainer to make second single. "RBR" should the third single, because it has a lot of crossover potential. This whole situation makes me MAD. CherryCrush, there's still time. You should write to the label.

I'm considering it. The whole online fanbase is considering an online petition. Cool, count me in if one is made. Although I think individual e-mails would be more effective.

from lickthepavement.com:
"A confirmation sent to my office was that the new single will in fact be the self titled track "Bleed Like Me". It is also known that Sophie Muller will also be directing the new video, and should be shooting within the first 2 weeks of April. A launch of the new video is possible around May 9th 2005. Also mentioning that a seperate single will be launched in the UK, which as far as we know will be "Sex Is Not The Enemy". A video for that should be taking place when Garbage is finished with it's first lag of the tour, which should be by Mid-April. No confirmations on the release date for "Sex Is Not The Enemy" or it's actual release, but we shall see in the later weeks. "
This sucks.
I've tried to find a place to contact Geffen but it's not happening. Their email link doesn't work.

I just wish they realize that "Bleed Like Me" is a great track, but just not made for radio.

I'll be surprised if this even breaks the top 60, let alone top 20.
It's just so....wrong. Almost ANY other song would've been a better choice.

I actually like this song better than Why Do You Love Me. Yes, it's not immediately memorable, and it probably could use a "rock out" moment or two, but I think this will be a grower that will slowly get stuck into listeners' heads. It also has less of the outdated 90's flavor that sorely sticks out in some of the other songs on the album (i.e. the bland Sex is Not the Enemy). And it doesn't grow old as fast as Why Do You Love Me.

I don't think WDYLM grows old fast and I think SINTE is awesome.

Maybe this will get a radio remix... I can see it happening. But, this is my favorite song on the album. Single-worthy? That's questionable... but I love the song overall.

It's been confirmed that Sex Is Not The Enemy is the UK single...out June 6th.
BLM is the 2nd single everywhere else.
And yes, I think BLM will be remixed.

But that's so lame: to have to remix a second single (or any single, for that matter).

I just listened to both "Sex Is Not The Enemy" and "Bleed Like Me". On my first listen, I like both songs better than "WDYLM". However, you guys are definately right that "Sex" would be a much more logical choice for the second single. "Bleed" could work as a third single, maybe.

well they probably would just take the horns out... a lot of songs have a radio edit I like the horns a lot. It definitely adds to the song. Also, I don't think a radio remix is the solution. Just pick another song!

If there's going to be a video for SINTE anyway, since it's a UK single, then maybe there's still room for them to change their mind. Make BLM a third single or something, though it really shouldn't even be that.

BLM is an awesome song and I think will work well, especially on Pop format. I'm sure the record company/garbage know what they're doing. If they didn't think it had any appeal they wouldn't release it. They obviously do think the song has appeal. I'm sure they will release a 3rd single. Shirley said that Interscope told them they didn't give a fuck about Garbage. Geffen seem to do more so than Interscope. And they'll probably be touring the USA by the third single so they'd have to release a 3rd single. I still think RBIE should be a single at some point.

I figured they'd take the horn out...not very conducive to alt. rock format...things have changed since Beck and FatBoy Slim days in the 90's.

Aren't Geffen and Interscope basically the same label now?

Geffen is part of Interscope, but a rock division. They are both part of UMG.
But Geffen has known Garbage since the start, knows their capacity to sell millions and will hopefully realize that potential and milk it for all it's worth.
btw Jimmy Iovine is Satan himself >:(
