I just read that over at 100000watts.com - (they just said that they dropped modern rock but didn't say what they switched to). That was stupid of them - don't tell me there's no market for alternative in Philadelphia.

Radio-One's only Alternative station left is WLRS/Louisville.

don't tell me there's no market for alternative in Philadelphia. Philadelphia still has Active Rock WYSP and Rock WMMR.

I know, but that's sort of like if a CHR/Pop station goes away that there's still a Hot AC station or Rhythmic station. I guess active rock and alt. are pretty similar so maybe it's not that big of a deal.

This is a tragedy. They were sponsoring Garbage's TLA show. What happens to all those tickets? :'(

btw how can this JUST happen overnight? There was no forewarning at ALL? The only forewarning was on the online trade magazines, like All Access and FMQB. The reason why this happened is because Radio One wanted to increase its urban radio presence in Philadelphia by introducing a new urban gospel station in the area on Sunday, while at the same time, keeping the Beat. Radio One owns primarily urban-oriented formats. Y100 was making money, but sometimes ownership wants to go into a different direction, and in this case, Y had to be the sacrificial lamb, despite the fact it had slightly higher ratings than the Beat.

Y may have had slightly higher ratings than the Beat, but it was behind Rock WMMR and being almost doubled by Active Rock WYSP. Radio One's Louisville Alternative station is also way behind an Active Rock station in the ratings. Does Philadelphia need a second Gospel station? If the new Gospel station hurts Clear Channel's Gospel WDAS-AM maybe CC should have WDAS-AM challenge Infinity's News or Talk stations both of which are top eight in the market.
