Apparently, the Killers are going to skip all official stateside promotion for "Smile Like You Mean It" and go straight to "All These Things That I've Done" when Alternative stations dwindle off "Smile." (At this news, Alt stations are bound to drop "Smile" like a rock.) And "Jenny" may be released 5th, but only in a fashion similar to "Smile." (Overseas promotion/video, no promotion/video in the States.) Why do they have to be such bastards about this? www.mtv.com/news/articles/1500539/20050421/killers_the.jhtml?headlines=true

They're both great songs, but I don't know why anyone would pull a song that's headed for the Top 10.

Puzzling.
"SLYMI" is only on 53 of the 72 Alternative stations (2 fewer than "Mr. Brightside"), and it's #16 with a +111 bullet. Looks like it was doing pretty well to me.

Brandon Flowers flipped a shit at the label for choosing "the Poppiest song on the album" and its "too English looking video" as the third single. The band is not behind SLYMI, which is a shame because it's an awesome song with a message everyone can relate to. ATTTID is also great, but I like SLYMI even more and wish it had its fair shot. Also, while i like ATTTID I really can't see Alt radio playing a song that features a gospel choir. And granted that JWAFOM won't have full promotion, we may not see another big Killers hit off this album. :(

I hope that the alt stations here just stay on path with it... sometimes Brandon Flowers is such an a**hole. Their fanbase loves this song, why pull it?

Yeah, "Smile Like You Mean It" never even went for adds at radio?
I mean, I'm not worrying right this second though. It doesn't seem like "All These Things That I've Done" is gonna impact like next week or something, otherwise I would've expected somebody to post an adds date. And "SLYMI" is doing really well right now, even with "Mr. Brightside" lingering around forever in the top 10. That tells me that stations might not let it fall off the face of the earth once "ATTTID" comes into play.
And I've really warmed up to the song upon listening to the album. However, I still think it's a weak song with regard to being released at alternative. I mean, I don't know though. If stations are playing "SLYMI", I don't think it's unreasonable to think they'll play this one to some degree as well.

I really think "All These Things That I've Done" should have been released as the third single to begin with.
It's the clear standout track on the record, with a stellar production running from the soft intro to the get-right-to-the-bone verses and rollicking chorus, not to mention the strong gospel crescendo in the bridge and the strong arena-friendly coda.
However, I will say that this is downright silly and pointless, considering its already in the Top 20, it has soaked into the Alternative chart like a bouillon cube, and besides that, I consider "Mr. Brightside" even more poppier than "Smile Like You Mean It" anyway.
Bad idea. I think they should just let this single be and then release their standout track "ATTTID" as the fourth single.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I think it's because a) Mr. Brightside isn't happy with the "Smile" video and either they can't get money to shoot another one or because b) they want to quickly put out as much music as possible, as indicated inside the link I posted.

"Smile Like You Mean It" went for adds already, so it was officially a single whether he likes it or not.

So odd. I'm not a huge fan of "Smile Like You Mean It", but it's doing well and it's got Pop potential. This strategy is going to screw the Killers out of a hit or two. "All These Things That I've Done" won't be a pop hit.
Is it possible that the Killers just don't want another radio hit? I can't see why else they'd do this.
The MTV story also erroneously puts "Smile Like You Mean It" in the Killers "murder trilogy". Should be "Jenny Was a A Friend Of Mine" in that slot.

I don't see why the band (or Flowers) is dissing "Smile." I'll admit, it's kinda sugary, but it's a cool ass song. Plus, it's already a hit and making them loads of $$$ (really, the only thing the label cares about).
Honestly, I like "Smile" more than "All...." But I haven't heard the latter song enough to make a true judgement, I guess.

Mr. Brightside was approaching top 10 on pop.
That's surprising that they feel this way about "Smile..." because I don't think that it would have outperformed Mr. Brightside anyway if they were to push it to pop.

I really love "All these things that I've done", and I think this can be an easy top 5 hit at alternative.

I wouldn't doubt for $$$ purposes, and to make Lollapalooza, that Smile still goes for POP adds sometime in June, I don't understadn why the Killers would do this to themselves.

This goes for Hot AC adds on July 11. They don't have an Alternative adds date up yet.

This song is awesome! I love it! Hope it does well... but I think they should have just let Smile like you mean be the official 3rd single instead of doing a split single since All these things that I've done is a single here in Canada while Smile like you mean it was released in Europe.

"Believe Me Nathalie" would be a better single choice :'( I LOVE that song...I want it to be the fifth single, but that will obviously be Jenny, which is also really good.

I couldnt make it to their concert in Columbus, but I heard they announced their first single off of their next album coming out ASAP, and they said they played a song called, Where The White Boys Dance, and they all said it could easily beat almost any track off of Hot Fuss. I'm very excited already about the next Killers album.

Ooops... forgot about this topic.
Official adds date on June 28.
EDIT: WOW... looking at the AI, this song, with 80 spins is already #24 in AI w/ 2.871 mil. Is that a mistake?

I'll still stick by my opinion and say this is the weakest "single-worthy" choice in the album of the first 5 "single-worthy" tracks. I don't like it as much as the other first 4 tracks, considering I debuted it today (#25) on my chart.
