I'm glad they scrapped SLYMI. I think that is the worst track on the whole cd.

Has it been mentioned that this was sent to Pop and Alternative simultaneously? I wonder how that's going to go over.

Has it been mentioned that this was sent to Pop and Alternative simultaneously? I wonder how that's going to go over. Kind of dampers its chances at both formats, imo. Pop wouldn't play this unless it was a hit elsewhere first. Alt may not want to jump on a song that's being marketed to the Pop audience from the start.

The new video to this song is brilliant. Cool western theme! And especially that "I've got soul but I'm not a soldier" LINE: classic! Will soon be the "This sh*t is bananas!" soon! Better than the cheap original video.

Grr, I was worried of an edit. Our station doesn't play an edit. *edit* Now that I play this...it's 5 minutes and 2 seconds long? I thought the limit was 5 minutes?

My station cuts out the intro and the song begins about 45 seconds into the album version.

This is my favorite song from the album. I'm glad it's a single.

Is it possible that the Killers just don't want another radio hit? I can't see why else they'd do this. After hearing this song last night, I'd have to believe you are right.
When I heard it, I was thinking, "what the hell is this??" This is such a disappointing choice, and "Somebody Told Me" and "Mr. Brightside" make it look even worse. (Unfortunately, I must admit that I haven't even heard "Smile Like You Mean It". )
Way to go, Brandon...

I don't know, where I live, the Killers are probably the hottest band in town and are played massively on just about every station and format they have been released to. Everyone I know really enjoys this song, I think it will go Top 5 Alternative, and Top 20 on both POP and Hot AC

Everyone I know really enjoys this song, I think it will go Top 5 Alternative, and Top 20 on both POP and Hot AC Well, judging from the responses I'd read up until posting, I already could tell that I'd be a "lone dissenter" when it came to this song.
It's not really the gospel choir that bothers me in this song, because it's not only in the middle of the song, but it adds the swell to their "I've got soul but I'm not a soldier" line, which I would think would only help this song.
But this song just sort of flops around, lifeless.
And Top 20 on Pop? No way.

It sounds just as good on the radio as their other three songs (though I still maintain it's the least best of the four, but the difference is probably negligible now).

I think this is the second best of the singles they have released so far, right behind Mr Brightside in my opinion. I loathed Smile Like You Mean It, so I'm glad they followed it up with something else good and didn't stop with the singles there. By the way the radio edit version I picked up of this was 4:39, which I'm not a big fan of because the end sounds like it's unnaturally cut off. I still wish Midnight Show or Jenny Was a Friend of Mine could have been singles though...those two being my favorites of the album.

I'm still not into this song much, having charted it for two weeks consecutively and letting it slip off. However, I can see this doing alright on Pop, although if this hits higher than "Mr. Brightside" or "Somebody Told Me", I will eat my hat AND its metal thingie thing. The video does nothing for me either. I don't know...I have nothing against The Killers but this just does nada on me. Boring.

I love this, as I have their previous singles. Not liking the video though.

I really like the video. It's creative and different. It's actually worthwhile and entertaining to watch, unlike some other videos...

Yeah, I agree 100% and all it took was seeing almost the whole video on VH1 late a couple nights ago. It was so unusual, but very compelling. And when the credit came up at the end and for director it said "Anton Corbijn" it made perfect sense. An enlightenment if you will. And KNSX has been playing "Smile" a lot more in the past few days and so now I'm getting really excited about seeing them on the 21st.

Though, I admit I was pretty baffled the first time I saw it, since I didn't get what was going on. It's gotten less confusing with each viewing, though, and hopefully I'll fully understand the cowboy motif as well and its relation to part 1 (or the part labelled "1", if you will) of the video.

I was a little worried after reading some negative reviews about earlier shows, but they actually didn't disappoint. I had a great time. Although I do think they have plenty of room for improvement when it comes to performing.

Maybe they scrapped "Smile Like You Mean It" so soon because they wanted to hurry up and get four singles in before they drop their next album. They felt "All These Things..." was a can't miss and destined to be a single, so why not release it. I love both songs, but can't wait to see how they respond with their next album. By the middle of 2007, will the Killers be viewed merely as a "trend" from the past or will everyone's prediction of them being the "next big thing" be correct?

I liked "Somebody Told Me" and "Mr. Brightside", but this song and "Smile Like You Mean It" just hasn't done much for me. I have to admit though the Killers are a band I could see lasting in the spotlight for years to come.
