At #37, I think this has already outpeaked "Give It All".

It looks like this could be come this year's "One Thing". That said, I think this is a superior song.

Some one tell me something about this band and this song. What would you most closely compare it to? I keep seeing the album and am tempted, yet I haven't heard any of their stuff, so I am reluctant.

From what I've heard, they're basically a politically-charged punk band. However, this particular song is an acoustic ballad that's not typical of them, hence the "One Thing" comparison above.

I've also been tempted to grab this album, possibly as a post-birthday present. I loved the first single "Give It All", and this one to a lesser extent, though it is growing on me. I'd compare "Swing Life Away" more to a Jack Johnson song than to "One Thing", although I could see it ultimately becoming a sleeper smash hit just as "One Thing" turned out to be.
"Give It All" is on one of the Rock Against Bush soundtracks, but it's really a stretch to cite it as a political record. I've just assumed that whatever hints of leftism this band has in their lyrics are indirect; not much different than your average band on the alternative format.
From what I understand, the band is based in Chicago and their latest release is their third studio album, and every member of the band is a vegetarian.

It was on the Punk Goes Acoustic CD, which was released in October 2003.

They had a rockin' single off their previous album 2 summers ago called "Like the Angel(s?)" that I never got to hear enough.

17 16 RISE AGAINST Swing Life Away 1234 1102 132 This is shaping up to be one of the sleeper hits of the year (it's even Bubbling Under the Hot 100). Although I like this, I wish it were "Give It All" getting this kind of success.

Well, KNDD recently gave them the My Chemical Romance Seal of Approval by playing this song. I was surprised they didn't play "Give It All" considering it seemed right up their alley since they launched a weekly punk rock show at the beginning of the year. KFNK picked up the slack on that song, though.
I can't get enough of this song though. "Give It All" just seemed unable to escape mediocrity for me. This one just goes one step beyond I suppose.

I LOVE this song from first listen. I'm glad it's becoming a hit now, but it's such a summer afternoon type of song that I wish it blew up earlier in the summer. Better late than never though.
