And why's that? Radio is reacting to it very well, and "Holiday" is already well on its way down the chart.

They released it too soon. Hmm?? Why's that? Holiday is falling on the rock charts, and this is a sure #1. EDIT: Didn't read page 2, so I didn't realize what I said was the exact same as Mokus.

Well, I'm still hearing Holiday constantly. And I think it would've been better to release something to keep them around for now, and then save Wake Me Up When September Ends in the fall.
And what chart do you go to get this stuff? I go to Mediabase and I see Holiday at 4. I don't get how these charts work.

Yeah, this song is far from over. The new video really enhances the song for me (even though now I'll never be able to think of this song without thinking of the war in Iraq). It should bound up my personal chart pretty quickly.
Seeing how moving and epic the video is, does anyone else feel that by the time this single finally dies down, that releasing "Jesus of Suburbia" would just be too much? I'm afraid that by then "JoS" will be considered too tied to the album's release and all the initial hype, that to roll it out as the 5th single may feel like clumsily sequenced overkill. Let alone, even if they did shoot a video for it, it may just be something low-budget like a live concert clip. Thoughts?

I think any next single they release would be from their next album.

I think any next single they release would be from their next album. Well, Jesus of Suburbia is on the UK release schedule so that will probably get an Alternative release

I seem to be having bad luck in catching the full intro to the video. Apparently, now MTV2 is playing a slimmed down version of the video that cuts the meat out of the part when the girlfriend discovers he's enlisted (though they manage to save the mood of the scene), and probably the intro as well, but I tuned in just now at the very end (although they were showing the video ID at that point as well, which might tell me what I need to know).
The video is good though. It doesn't really make any premeditated political assertions because it's presenting a reality (or what I assume to be a reality). That way, you bring whatever political feelings you have as an individual to the table, and then go from there. As for my perception, it feels like an average story with some troops I mean, the guy enlists because he wants to do something with life, gf goes nuts out of the fear he'll die 10,000 miles away from her, meanwhile the guy eventually starts to question his wisdom while in the field. I especially like how there's no resolution to the story. I guess it's done as a parallel to the war itself, because we don't know how it's, or we as a people to a lesser extent, going to turn out. Either we'll catch a break and things will work out well, or, goodness forbid, things will go horribly wrong. We just don't know, and neither does he. But I think using that microcosmic/macrocosmic parallel works great.

I don't know how much I trust that. The band hasn't said anything at all about releasing it as a single and that forum placed it under "TBA and Coming Soon", so they don't know the add date for it yet. They might even just be going off of the fact that the band is making a video for Jesus Of Suburbia, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it will be a single.

It appears that it may actually move back into the #2 slot, as Staind is now falling faster than Green Day and the Foos could fall below both songs after Sunday night's final update. I still don't think this song is finished yet, and I hope Green Day can pull off one week at #1 to urge them to push for a fifth single.

I seem to be having bad luck in catching the full intro to the video. If it's not online, I believe VH1 still plays the full thing. Every time I've ever seen it on MTV or MTV2 (now that I've had it back again for 3 days) it's always been the abridged version.

Everything you wanted from this album's lifespan is falling into place. www.mtv.com/news/articles/1508693/20050831/green_day.jhtml?headlines=trueGreen Day and Sam are churning out a video for "Jesus of Suburbia" and as a bonus, like I had kind of wanted when I saw them in May, they're planning on touring more in the future, performing the American Idiot album in its entirety. It makes sense to put "Jesus of Suburbia" out as a single. The article reminded me that some rock stations have been playing it sporadically all along. And Launch plays the "Wake Me Up When September Ends" video in its entirety, by the way.

This is their third consecutive pop crossover. Normally, for any band that would signal an immediate end of their future on alternative. However, Green Day has enough credibility to overcome that, and all four of the songs released so far will probably be played on alternative 3-4 years from now.
I also strongly doubt they'll release a fifth single. It's already been a year since the album came out, and I just don't see them finally releasing "Jesus of Suburbia" ten months after it started getting serious non-single airplay.

I'm shocked this didn't rocketed all the way to the top. This is probably their best single released from AI. Plus the video is aweome which can't hurt any

Its hard to get to #1 when Feel Good Inc. surprised everyone by blasting off and passing by all the other songs on the chart, and are still currently leading Staind's Right Here and Wake Me Up When September Ends by almost 500 spins. Still, I think this song's chart run was very successful especially since they already had 3 other singles from American Idiot that did extremely well.
