It looks like this is likely going to be the next single. A UK release is scheduled and it's already playing on several Alternative stations. I'm not really that into this one right now.

It's a strong track, but not one I'd release as a single. The ending gets a bit too gospel-like.
They need something more alternative to follow "Speed of Sound". I think "Talk" is that kind of track that should go next.
Actually I'd love to see something mystical like ""White Shadows" become a single, but I think the following would be my ideal single strategy:
1: "Speed of Sound" 2: "Talk" 3: "A Message" 4: "Swallowed In The Sea"
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

LOVE this song and every person that I've seen review the album names this as a highlights. It's just really pretty.
I agree though, Talk needs to be a single.

I actually love this song, more than "Talk" even.
I would love to see "A message" and "Swallowed by the Sea" released, and the secret track at the end (Til Kingdom Come) is fast becoming my favorite song on the whole album... but I doubt they would release that.
Anyway, I think this is good news and I'm excited. It's different enough from SOS too. There are songs that sound similar to SOS on that album and I'm glad they didn't pick one of those for the second single.

Is this the song that they performed second on SNL?
If so, I hate it.

They've been playing this on K-Rock 2 because K-Rock 2 is featuring songs from Coldplay, The White Stripes, and Oasis' new albums. I haven't heard it yet though, but if you get the chance, it should be on K-Rock 2.

Yes, they did perform this song 2nd on SNL.
I love this song, it takes a while to get going IMO but it I could see this being a hit.

This song is brilliant, but dumb single choice. It's one of those epic, too good for radio songs. There's nothing radio friendly about it, and with all this hype right now if Coldplay chose the right single, they'd explode with their biggest hit to date. This won't do it for them. Plus a ballad as second dampers their run at Alternative.
"White Shadows" should be the second single. It's super catchy, and a demonstrates a change for Coldplay while still staying true to their classic sound. I think Alt radio would eat it up, DLs would go crazy, and then the crossover to HAC and Pop would set in.
My ideal single strategy would be this: "Speed Of Sound" "White Shadows" "The Hardest Part" (a ballad should come third, and this is the catchiest, most radio friendly one on the album) "Talk" "Fix You" (a 5th single won't get as much airplay regardless so now would be a good time to send this one out to the masses).

Nice song, but I think "White Shadows" would be a much better second single choice.

I was actually just going to post it, but luckily I saw that the thread already had been made. This has been played on Sirius' Alt Nation as the second single off "X&Y", and on first listen, it did nothing, personally.

I agree with the single choice. I think it's their best song ever. I also think White Shadows and What If would make great singles.

amazing song, but I think "Talk" should be pused next. Then Fix You. As a matter of fact, their are about six songs off of this album that would do great. Can't forget Hardest Part, I think that could go Top 10.

I heard "Talk" for about the 4th or 5th time on my local alt. station, which has been spinning new Coldplay singles like crazy. I like "Talk" much, much better than "Fix You". "Talk" would make a better single because it is (slightly) louder and more uplifting. Releasing two consecutive ballads never bodes too well on alternative, although Coldplay will likely be an alternative staple-artist for years to come.
I'm just saying I would have preferred to "Talk" to this, likely their slowest release to date. I'm in the mood for some more uplifting, stronger Coldplay, not "Fix You".

I don't consider "Speed of Sound" a ballad, and if it were, then "Clocks" would certainly have to be categorized as one. Anyway, "Talk" or "White Shadows" SHOULD be the second single. They need to keep energizing their key Alternative audience on the second single as a tideover until another Top 40-worthy third single is released ("A Message", "The Hardest Part", "Swallowed In The Sea" are all great candidates) and then leave the fourth single open as a wild card. I'm still flustered by the "Fix You" selection. Triple A will certainly gobble it up as they will any track from this album, but elsewhere, I think it'll fall short in potential over a number of many other tracks from this record. My Prediction: #17Had "Talk" been released: #8 (slow rise up the chart with longevity)Had "White Shadows" been released: #6 (quicker rise up the chart than under the "Talk" theory, with still enjoyable longevity)Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Man, is this video lame or what? (And if you haven't seen it yet, here's your spoiler alert, though there's not much to spoil.) The first half starts out interestingly enough. Chris is walking the streets of, apparently, London. I'm figuring, OK, maybe this is some kind of redo of "The Scientist" or something like that. And I'm wondering "Well, gee, where is this gonna go." Then when the guitar kicks in, we find out: it's a freaking live performance. I'm like, "Uh, that's it?"
I mean, you can tell if a label doesn't want to spend too much on promotion by the video. Like, I get the feeling Audioslave's latest isn't being fully invested because despite being a kick-ass second single, the video for "Your Time Has Come" was just some schlocky clip show highlighting their visit to Cuba, among other things. Now, of course, that could've just been the band's decision to not do much for the video, but it still kinda disappoints me when artists just mail it in. And if you're gonna do a live video, do a live video. I mean, really give it your all, because live videos aren't necessarily average or bad ones (see "City of Blinding Lights" for an example there).
But here, it's like they only had enough money to do half of the video, so rather than trying for a kickass live video, or just not doing a video, they do half of a regular video, and half of a live video, which, to me, just seems incredibly dumb. Especially since they build it up, and build it up, and then splat. Now, granted each half of the video is OK in their own right (whatever that's worth), but seriously.

Oh yeah, the vide was premiered yesterday on MTV2, right? I forgot to see it. I've heard this song once, and not all of it, and I don't like it much. "Talk" is pretty good though, or at least a little more obvious as a single choice.

I've tried so many times, but I just can't get into this song. It drags, and I end up getting bored and never finish listening to it. This will be the first Coldplay single released to not make my chart, which is dissapointing with how much I liked "Speed of Sound." Having said that, I have high hopes for the third and fourth singles when this gets out of the way.

It's a nice enough song. At first it sounded like a mix of U2 and christian.

I don't like the video. They should've been more creative with it.
