I don't like the video. They should've been more creative with it. I'm just tired of their performance videos. I'd like to see at least one video from this album be a visual, artistic one like "Trouble" or "The Scientist". As one member was saying earlier, maybe it's because Martin wants to act all progressive and everything that's keeping them from making many more hi-fi videos, but "The Scientist" video I imagine wasn't that expensive to make at all; the director was just a genius in being able to make something simple look so poetic. "Trouble" really is their only expensive video to date. "White Shadows" or "Talk" I bet would spawn amazing video concept inspirations. Whenever I hear the latter, I always envision that ladder to the sun. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I don't think "being elaborate" on the videos necessarily means wasting large amounts of money, but hey, it wouldn't hurt to spend a little more on the visuals. I found the video for "Speed Of Sound" to be very good, considering it was a performance, but at least there was some "acting" in it and the background had pretty colors in it. :o LOL... Anyways, I'm disappointed with this single choice still, but I hope it success.

This is probably their most snoozer single to date.
I think that a great release for Alternative would be "Square One".
But yeah, I absolutely love the "Trouble" video. I was surprised after seeing the awful "Yellow" video that they were capable of such a thing.

I'm just surprised that Coldplay or the label executives haven't learned from U2's experience of "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own" here that slow ballads most of the time just don't sell at Alternative.
Though I believe U2 could have made an even better move for a second single instead of "All Because of You" and release the progressively-enchanting "City of Blinding Lights" instead, U2 at least had the right idea going that they need to balance the diverse tastes of their fanbase and give Alternative something to digest, and "All Because of You" at least had that raw, rock element that works to the format.
Coldplay just don't seem to get the picture here. I still believe "Talk" should have been the second single to keep Alternative happy, since "Speed of Sound" was inevitably going to hit Top 40 no matter what, THEN release the next crossover-worthy track ("A Message", "The Hardest Part").
Clumsy single strategy is what I think of it, period.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I think this is song is beautiful, probably not a good single choice, but beautiful none the less. Of course slower ballad type songs tire more easily than faster songs, so I'll only listen once in a while.

At one point I was into it, and then i'm not into it. This song confuses me. I can't choose whether or not I like it, but I can say it's definitely not one of their better songs. I would've actually prefered "White Shadows" to be the 2nd single.

I think "Speed Of Sound" was the one that was boring. This new one sounds much better, so far.

The more I hear this song, the more I hate it. Wish this would speed along and make way for the third single.

Prolly doesn't matter what single is released because they're still gonna sell. Maybe they want to release a song that isn't expected from them to appeal to people that don't like their previous stuff?

I don't understand all the negativity projected towards this song. I instantly liked it better than "Speed of Sound."

Meh. It's just another one of those one-dimensional fixed definitions that countless members of this forum tend to follow, for reasons I can't really figure out. "Slow = Boring", "Screaming = Bad", y'know...

Chris Martin's voice puts me to sleep on this one, and I liked "What If" from the album, which was of similar style. The music doesn't really help it either.

Yes, this song is starting to grow on me, but I could also see getting tired of it quickly (again) now that I'm starting to like it.
I just hope it doesn't become a Top 10 pop crossover, so I'll have to hear it an extra 3+ months. Also, I hope it doesn't for the sake of their future chart success on alternative.

I instantly liked it better than "Speed of Sound." Me too; It's definitely in my top 3 fave songs from X&Y.

Agreed, definitely one of the best ballads from Coldplay, quite possibly this decade. It's hard to put a song like this into Power Rotation, and we all know that the dated- Active Rock leaning stations would be terrified to play a song this good. I see this being a very big hit for the stations that play it, but that will only be about 2\3 of the format. This will definitely hit Top 15, but have a fairly decent stay in the Top 20. I'm pulling for this to be a minor hit to POP and Hot AC, but I'm guessing they are really going to promote Talk for the holiday season, which is easily the most radio-friendly cut off of X&Y.

Maybe cause it doesn't fit on Active Rock. Geez, for every crowd there's at least one asshole.

Maybe cause it doesn't fit on Active Rock. Geez, for every crowd there's at least one a**hole. Well those stations should be on Active Rock, not Alternative. That's why you have lame-ass Scott Scapp, Crossfade, and Trapt's even making a dent on the format. If you ask me, R&R needs to reformat which stations belong in Active Rock, and move all AAA stations to the formats who are Alternative.

I don't like your attitude, but I do agree with the idea that if a station is heavily leaning toward a different format that they should reevaluate what they are. There are barely enough rock stations as it is without the ones that exist having an identity crisis and mucking things up. I don't think that's why Crossfade and Trapt are doing so well on Alternative though.

This has completely grown on me as a single now. It sounds great on the radio actually. Even still, there's no doubt in my mind this would have done better as a third single following up a harder second single that also would have done better.

This single may actually stick around for a while, its one of the biggest movers on Alternative and Hot AC, two formats, that clearly play music based on other formats, so that is a good thing. By the time the bullet may shrink a bit, I believe that is when Fix You will be released to POP and from their, who knows. I really don't think this will be the single to carry Coldplay into the holiday season (it very well could be, who knows), but I'm guessing it will be 'Talk'.

I would love to see "A Message" released, but I think it's too similar to follow up "Fix You".
Maybe "The Hardest Part" would be a good next release.
