I like what I hear... Switchfoot should be able to pull in a top 10 here.

I love this song a lot. I hope it hits well on all formats.

Yeah, I do believe Switchfoot are going to keep up momentum at Alternative.
Switchfoot's future on Alternative was uncertain to me after seeing "This Is Your Life" falter on the format, but this is both aggressive and hook-driven as "Meant To Live" was and I think they'll live another day here.
Best-case scenario is this will become their third Top-10. Worst-case scenario is it just crawls into the Top 20.
My Prediction: #7
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

It's an instant impact at Number 89 on Alternative with 76 spins and also has 5 spins on CHR-Pop. The album "nothing is sound" (their website didn't use any capital letters in the title) comes out on September 13.

The album "nothing is sound" (their website didn't use any capital letters in the title) comes out on September 13. Yeah, it's definitely going to be a crossover smash at Pop and Hot AC. The riffs sound a lot like a classic Creed hit, while the verses sound more like the classic mid-tempo Switchfoot sound. I bet it'll go Top 10 at Pop eventually as well. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Anyone think that they might be too mainstream to attract some of the panel?

Anyone think that they might be too mainstream to attract some of the panel? Perhaps, but 3 Doors Down and Nickelback still get by having good enough chart runs with their most recent singles despite really crossing over. Switchfoot shouldn't really fall too much victim here. "Figure You Out" was able to go Top 5 with only 75% of the panel ever playing the single. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

What is slightly more disturbing is that this single is already impacting Alternative, but I have not seen it as going for adds on Christian radio formats. Have Switchfoot abandoned their roots and gone completely mainstream?

Maybe Christian radio is just slower. I'm sure even if they don't send it to Christian, Christian will add it anyways. At least stations like Air1 will.

I'm fairly sure that this, at #45, has set a new peak for Switchfoot at Active Rock. lol
People have told me I'm wrong before, but I don't think "Meant to Live" even made the top 50 at AR. If it did, it was only at #49 or #50.

Anyone think that they might be too mainstream to attract some of the panel? Hopefully their overmainstreamness will at the very least kill off some of these guys' longevity with all their singles. "Meant To Live" and "Dare You To Move" were fine at first, but after about a month, listening to those songs were like eating some french fries that you found under your couch cushions. And then the songs had to go stay on the chart for like five years each.

I never liked "Meant To Live", and "Dare You To Move" took a year to grow on me. For me, this isn't doing much.

Sincerely, Noah Eaton Haha, yeah, we all got the hyperbole... I've grown into this and I like it; I believe this can become another hit for Switchfoot on Pop, although if "Meant To Live" and "Dare You To Move" did almost nothing on Active Rock, I can't see this peaking any higher.

It's really been that long? Wow, I didn't even need to use any of the hyperbole!

Hopefully their overmainstreamness will at the very least kill off some of these guys' longevity with all their singles. Maybe here, but not at Pop (unless it decides to flop) or Hot AC (especially there).
Although, I thought at least Dare You to Move sank like a rock here...

Although, I thought at least Dare You to Move sank like a rock here...
It did after peaking, but it still enjoyed chart longevity and fell below the Top 20 after its 20th week on the chart. The White Stripes, Queens of the Stone Age and Offspring all suffered similar fates with follow-up singles on their previous releases (Offspring on the lead too, actually) Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I've enjoyed the singles from The Beautiful Letdown but this song does nothing for me. Holding on to the hope that the rest of Nothing is Sound is better.

This has taken me a little longer to warm up to then the tracks off The Beautiful Letdown, but overall I've really started to enjoy this and I don't see any reason it shouldn't do alright on alternative radio. I'd sure rather see stuff like this take off with the stations on the panel instead of tsome of the other bands that are enjoying success as of late tracks that are much worse than this....SOAD, Weezer, and Staind are the first ones coming to mind.

The gains have really shrunk for this song, as Stars will move up to #22 or #21 (does Blue Orchid go recurrent this week?). Anyways, the audience is also relatively small compared to some of the other songs in the 20s. Perhaps big market stations are being reluctant to add this right away. However, if they don't this could fall short of all the predictions made in this thread.

I finally got to hear this... on Sportscenter. It sounded pretty good, but it was hard to really judge because I was concentrating on the sports highlights. The thing is, I don't see any rock station in Seattle playing this, and it'll probably be a little while before it goes for pop or Hot AC adds, assuming it does. And then there's the issue of if MTV2 or VH1 will play the video (though I imagine VH1 will regardless of if it crosses over), and when the video comes out to begin with.

I'm actually surprised it's bullet is so low. I thought this song would at least go Top 10 on Alternative. Maybe the bullet will pick up in the next couple of days.

Top 10 no doubt! It's so... fresh! If radio cheats this single of what it's worth, I will be eternally ungrateful.

So I finally heard this yesterday: Man, this is one dull tune. Total aural wallpaper.
