I listen to WPLJ often, and have noticed a dramatic increase in its playlist over the past week. They are playing more gold songs that have a calssic rock edge. For example, this week I've heard them play:
Peter Frampton - "Do You Feel Like We Do" Robbie Dupree - "Steel Away" Van Halen - "Dance The Night Away"
and others...
They still play their fare share of new stuff including artists like Jesse McCartney & Kelly Clarkson that these Jack stations probably wouldn't play. I've just noticed hearing songs that I've never heard on the station before lately.

That's interesting, but if any station in NYC goes Jack, I would believe either WNEW or WXRK when Howard Stern leaves.

I just came across this on All Access: Yesterday, ALL ACCESS wondered aloud about how soon INFINITY would invite JACK to DA BIG APPLE! This morning Alternative WXRK (92.3 K-ROCK) syndicated morning man HOWARD STERN openly speculated that JACK-FM was coming to WXRK on JANUARY 1st, 2006. WXRK VP/GM TOM CHIUSANO said, "No comment" but did engage in conversation with STERN about what the format was and who it was designed to appeal to.

Infinity has "Jack'd" 106.5 in Baltimore and flipped their Mix station 107.3 in D.C. to a "Jack'd" format this week. I'm all for a little diversity, but I miss hearing core Hot AC artists. Those stations were a refuge from rap and pop.
Instead of playing every song in their inventory, I wish they would play songs from just the last 20 years. It's kind of jarring to go from a Beatles' song to a song by Usher.

WXRK will almost certainly change formats when Howard leaves; their ratings are terrible outside of his airshift.

Ugh, it looks like radio in New York is going down the toilet. :( (For me anyway)

Ugh, it looks like radio in New York is going down the toilet. :( (For me anyway) It really is. We have one Alternative station and its way too Active, and one HAC which is already way too Gold-based and NOW they're playing songs from like the 70's. I want a current-based HAC station!

I've already heard Laura Brannigan's "Gloria" and 10cc's "The Things We Do For Love' this morning.
EDIT; They are now playing Little River Band's "Lonesome Loser", a true Jack song if there ever was one. I can also add Foreigner's "Urgent" and Thompson Twins' "King For A Day". They seem to play about one to two of these type songs per hour.
