Here it is folks... the moment you have all been waiting for - Jay's Top 100 of 2003! This year on Jay's Top 40, we saw some firsts and also set a couple of new records. The first "first" was the expansion of the chart from 30 positions to 40 positions, and hence the new name Jay's Top 40! We saw our first Christian songs hit the chart this year as I started to really get into Christian rock, pop, and AC music this year. Plus, we saw our first non-top 40 pop #1 hit on Jay's Top 40! (Warren Barfield - My Heart Goes Out). We also had the biggest leap ever for a song to the #1 spot (10-1) done by 50 Cent - In Da Club in March 2003. With so much happenings on this year's chart, it was a great year of music indeed as veteran artists like matchbox twenty, Britney Spears, and Celine Dion scored top 10s along with newcomers like Stacie Orrico, Clay Aiken, and 50 Cent performing well. All in all this year, 180 songs made the top 40 this chart year. Before I get into the clues for the first 10 songs (100-91), here are the songs that just missed the top 100 (positions 105-101) Pos. Artist - Song [PP] 105. Simply Red - Sunrise [#23] 104. Nickelback - Someday [#12] 103. Faith Hill - One [#20] 102. Beyonce f/ Sean Paul - Baby Boy [#19] 101. Pay The Girl - Freeze [#18] Now, let's get into the clues! 100. 2003 was a year of many remakes to hit the pop chart, and we start the countdown here with one of those remakes. It's off an album that spans more than a decade of music. [#5] 99. Although the followup song never stuck on the chart, this rapper's second release did make its presence felt in the top 20 of my chart. [#19] 98. This song could have become the anthem for a media-hyped crisis this summer, only it didn't happen in Tennessee but in New York and the Great Lakes. [#18] 97. People commented on lots of songs entitled "Breathe" making the pop chart, but the title of this song has also been used for two other top 3 pop hits in the last 5 years. [#22] 96. The first Christian-only hit of the countdown. It's off an album entitled "Two Lefts Don't Make A Right... But Three Do". It is still on my chart. [#14] 95. A leftover song from 2002 by a member of a very successful R&B trio. This was her first solo release. [#7] 94. This group is a Christian pop group, but they also do really well on Radio Disney. This is their current Christian pop hit. [#13] 93. First of two hits for this female singer. Unlike her previous three hits, this song really got "tripped up" and tumbled down the chart before hitting the top 10. [#18] 92. Who would have thought you could take a bad boy from Detroit, team him up with a female guitarist and score this top 20 hit? [#19] 91. Here's a Christian band that crossed over to mainstream a couple of years ago with a monster hit. This song was their first release from their newest album, but it wasn't received with such open arms by mainstream. [#4]

Here are the right answers given:
100. No Doubt - It's My Life 99. 98. Lisa Marie Presley - Lights Out 97. Amanda Perez - Angel 96. Relient K - Forward Motion 95. Kelly Rowland - Stole 94. Jump 5 - Why Do I Do 93. Avril Lavigne - Losing Grip 92. Kid Rock f/ Sheryl Crow - Picture 91. Lifehouse - Spin
So the only one not guessed right was #99.
Here's an additional hint for #99 - This artist would fit well in one of the topics we had on the R&R boards - "Artists whose first hit "flopped" on pop but their second song went top 10". The clue to the artist's followup to this song was the word "stuck" in the previous clue.

99. Sean Paul - Get Busy (the follow-up was Like Glue; which explains the "stuck" part)

Great work Bryan! 99. Sean Paul - Get Busy Here's the score so far! Matt - 5 Bryan - 2 Hector - 2 Cfw - 1 OK, on with the countdown: 90. First of two songs for this Grammy and Oscar winning artist. The song samples a big 70s hit by a band who has a member whose child was in the biggest movie of this past holiday weekend. [#15] 89. This song certainly wasn't "everything" for pop radio as it was the lowest peaking song by this artist so far on that format. However, I am not ready to say "goodbye" to this song quite yet as it continues to rise. [#11] 88. First of 3 hits by this teen pop icon gone solo. The video had the artist dress up like Michael Jackson during one of the scenes. [#3] 87. This clue, clue, clue should speak for itself, itself, itself. [#13] 86. First of two hits by this Christian band now going mainstream on alternative and pop. The song's title implies that the band is just not satisfied with OK. [#19] 85. Her latest album recently went up, up, up to diamond status. This was the first single off of that album. [#13] 84. This song features a guest appearance by a rapper who says a line that is reminiscient of a huge R&B/Urban hit from 1998 which the artist was also featured on. The main artist is a newcomer to the scene. [#12] 83. First of two hits by this Christian band who surprisingly hit big on AC and pop with a two-year old song. This, however, is their current Christian pop single. [#18] 82. It's what I would do to see the Red Sox win the World Series! [#17] 81. This band is not sure what a 2-way is, but that didn't affect their ascent on my chart to the top 20. [#16] Good Luck!

I modified my post above to put in the correct guesses made. 84. 50 Cent f/ Nate Dogg - 21 Questions??? That is incorrect. Here's another hint for #84 - The title of this song is the same as an Australian duo's first US pop release that went to #1.

mst3k1 is absolutely correct! In the previous clue, I was referring to the line "I don't wanta be a playa no more", which is reminiscient of "Still Not A Playa" by Big Pun f/ Joe and Fat Joe. Anyways, on with the countdown: 80. This song actually hit #1 last November, but had enough longevity to make it onto the 2003 yearend chart. And no, voting did not help this song reach its peak on my chart. [#1] 79. A Christian band with three letters in their name. This was their biggest Christian pop hit in 2003. Think of the place you would go to find an item you misplaced at a store. [#14] 78. Hmmm, could I make a band called "The Playstations"? This is the band's big remake hit of this year. [#12] 77. First of two big hits this year by this rapper. The song could be used in a Nike commercial, or to promote an airline sponsered by the White House. [#10] 76. First of two hits on the countdown by a pop diva. It was also the first video that showed the artist with her boyfriend/lover/tabloid cover star. [#4] 75. A Christian all-girl group that also gets Radio Disney play. This is their latest single that topped the Christian AC chart. It is still on my chart. [#10] 74. This song was originally resurrected by a Dallas station to honor the astronauts lost in the NASA tragedy. It then caught steam on other pop and AC stations. [#13] 73. Who says to the victor goes the spoils? Try telling that to this runner up with his debut single that earned #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and a top 20 spot on my chart! [#12] 72. This song comes off of a sequel to a movie starring Reese Witherspoon. [#17] 71. There are many types: wall, mantle, desk, and even hand-held, but this group didn't sing about any of those in this hit. [#18]

Here are the next set of clues for you all to chew on:
70. Second hit for this new popstar on my countdown. This single looks very likely to go #1 on the first chart of 2004. There was also a topic made about this song vs. another song that I can't stand! [#2]
69. It's a fact that we're going to get down to this song! [#16]
68. A Christian band whose name refers to the day in which Jesus rose from the dead. This song was their biggest Christian hit this year. It's in the top 3 of 2 yearend Christian charts. [#11]
67. I didn't count to see how many there really would, but this pair of rappers certainly ask a lot! [#11]
66. Follow your heart to this big comeback hit for a 90s singer/songwriter. [#13]
65. Famous Disney star turned teen popstar with this somewhat surprising pop hit. [#12]
64. Things got somewhat blurred with this band's followup to a #1 smash in 2002. The song entered my chart well after it peaked on all R&R formats. [#11]
63. In 2001 this band had the #1 song of the year on my chart, but for 2003, not even asking for divine intervention helped their cause. [#15]
62. First of 3 hits by this punk rock band. This song asked us to throw up our hands and sing aloud! [#11]
61. Another leftover hit from 2002. The song is by a once country but now primarily an AC favorite. This was the title track off of her album. [#3]

70. Clay Aiken - Invisible 67. 50 Cent - 21 Questions (and yes, there are 21 questions in the song, I counted them) 66. Jewel - Intuition 65. Hilary Duff - So Yesterday 63. Train - Calling All Angels 62. Good Charlotte - The Anthem 61. Faith Hill - Cry

Yikes! I just realized I skipped a song when I was doing the countdown! :( I skipped #64. I will give the clue for it now and then list the rest of the clues.
#64 This is another Christian artist. She is a female solo singer who had a minor AC hit this past spring. This song is in the top 10 of the yearend Christian AC chart. [#10]
So, here are the ones guessed correctly:
70. Clay Aiken - Invisible 69. 68. Third Day - You Are So Good To Me 67. 50 Cent f/ Nate Dogg - 21 Questions 66. Jewel - Intuition 65. Hilary Duff - So Yesterday 64. 63. Puddle Of Mudd - She Hates Me 62. Train - Calling All Angels 61. Good Charlotte - The Anthem 60. Faith Hill - Cry
Here's another hint for #69:
The previous clue I gave contained part of the lyric to this song. The song also has a not-so-nice word in it.
