My oh my, what a horrible year in music it's been. The Annoying List can attest to that. But first, some things that can't go unsaid. 2003: The year their credibility diedLiz Phair Jewel Counting Crows Train Please stop while you're ahead because all the rest of the songs on your album make me want to jump into a blender on pureeJason Mraz [glow=red,2,300]S.O.S.[/glow] (Some Overrated Songs)10 Matchbox Twenty - Unwell 9 Sixpence None the Richer - Don't Dream It's Over 8 Uncle Krapper ft. Dobie Gray - Drift Away (I know everyone hates it but spending that long on the top of the AC chart is inexcusable) 7 Jewel - Stand 6 3 Doors Down - When I'm Gone 5 OutKast - Hey Ya 4 50 Cent - In Da Club 3 Liz Phair - Why Can't I 2 Norah Jones - Don't Know Why 1 Jewel - Intuition Guilty pleasures and/or songs that narrowly avoided the Annoying List for the sole reason they're too bad and or novelty to be taken seriously but not bad enough to be annoying as hell5 Trapt - Headstrong 4 J.C. Chasez - Some Girls Dance With Women 3 Puddle of Mudd - She Hates Me 2 Uncle Kracker - Memphis Soul Song 1 R. Kelly - Ignition (original) If anyone needs clarification on any of the above, please do ask. And now, the moment you've all been waiting for... (Disclaimer: If a song sucks that isn't on here, either I forgot it or it's a D+ or higher. What a shitty year in music it's been, most of the D+ songs didn't even make it... usually the cut-off is around a C-.) [red]50[/red] Lillix - It's About TimeTwo Advils for the price of one! What a deal... or not. [red]49[/red] Josh Kelley - Amazing"Baby, you're amazing." Thanks, I never wudda guessed. And some advice... it's generally not a good idea to try to be as cheezy as John Mayer. [red]48[/red] J Ho & Whoever she shacked up this time - I'm GladI'm just glad they don't play this anymore. [red]47[/red] Chantal Kreviasuck - In this LifeIt'd be decent if someone else sang it. My God. Her voice sounds like what vaginitis would sound like if it had a voice. [red]46[/red] Paranoid Social Club - WastedI'd have left the Rustic Overtones too if this is what they'd turn into! [red]45[/red] Dave Matthews - Save MeThis is on way too much crack to even be tolerable due to being on crack. Mister walking man save me, save me, blah blah blah blah [red]44[/red] Stacie Orrico - StuckI don't like what her voice does when she starts singing the chorus. The song sucks too. [red]43[/red] Jewel - IntuitionWhat has she done to herself. And writing a song about selling out as an excuse to sell out isn't going to work. (unless you're a member of the R&R Message boards and/or Pulse Music ) [red]42[/red] Uncle Krapper ft. Dobie Gray - Drift AwayI'm aware that the original wasn't that bad and this isn't that far from the original, but new songs are NOT supposed to sound like this. [red]41[/red] Joan Loser - Only You Know & I KnowShe should have learned from Love is Alive that she can't do remakes... er, scratch that -- she should have learned from One of Us that she can't do music. [red]40[/red] Michelle Branch - Are You Happy Now?Stop trying to be Alanis and/or Advil. Only Alanis can be Alanis and lots of people can be Advil but why would anyone want to. [red]39[/red] Vanessa Carlton - Ordinary DaySinging an almost offensively ordinary song and trying to be all dynamic... doesn't work. [red]38[/red] Advil Lavigne - I'm With YouHer voice sucks, and the lyrics except for "damn" look like what a 4th grader would write as part of an English assignment. [red]37[/red] Seen Pull - Like GlueAnother annoying song. Somebody shut him up already. [red]36[/red] John Mayer - Come Back to BedThey recalled it but the damage to my ears has already been done. [red]35[/red] The Thorns - BlueSomebody should have told Droge, Sweet, & Mullins that -- not to be cliche or anything -- too many cooks spoil the broth. Their other song barely missed the 50.

[red]34[/red] Missy Elliot - Gossip Folks Hands down, Missy at her worst.
[red]33[/red] No Doubt - Running This sounds like Super Mario Bros. & while I like Mario, there's a time and a place for everything & the place is not my radio & the time is not while I'm listening.
[red]32[/red] Pink - Trouble Just shut up about how bad you wanna be and crappy you are. We all know.
[red]31[/red] The Pretenders - Complex Person Chrissy Hyde is probably old enough to have an autographed copy of the Pentateuch and should not attempt in any way, shape, or form to emulate Gwen Stefani. Not to mention, this song is horrid.
[red]30[/red] Sugarrhea - Mr. Bartender (It's So Easy) For once, everyone else too realizes that a Sugarrhea song sucks!
[red]29[/red] Chingy - Right Thurr I don't know what the hell he's saying or doing but my poor ears can't take it.
[red]28[/red] Liz Phalluslover - Why Can't I Oh my God will you quit screeching!!!!!!!!1
[red]27[/red] XXXTina - Fighter see above
[red]26[/red] Busta Rhymes ft. Mariah Crappy - I Know What You Want For you to shut up... and seriously, in the words of crash46... "what the hell is this."
[red]25[/red] POD - Will You Worst song from an already bad band. Obnoxious metal trying to be passed off as noise.
[red]24[/red] 50 Cent - 21 Questions Will you shut up? Do you know how bad your songs are? (To the reader, feel free to make up 19 more... I was gonna be clever but I don't feel like wasting any more time talking about this piece of crap)
[red]23[/red] Ben Harper - With My Own Two Hands Fake reggae at its worst. "UGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGH" Sincerely, Noah Eaton
[red]22[/red] XXX Tina - Beautiful You don't really expect us to believe that 1) you're beautiful in every single way and 2) words don't bring you down.
EVERYTHING BELOW THE DOTTED LINE IS AN [red]F-[/red] -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --
[red]21[/red] Good Ch'tte - The Anthem A song about not conforming, complete with music, lyrics, & a video that conforms to every single one of today's pop standards.
[red]20[/red] Nelly - Air Force Ones Umm, yeah...
[red]19[/red] Eminem - Superman I don't care if it's cleverly written, the content is dumb & tastelessly rude.
[red]18[/red] John Mayer - Why Georgia This song makes no sense & yet I get the feeling he's trying to make some sort of pretentious statement. Well, "Am I living it right? Am I living it right? Why Georgia why?" isn't going to get one very far. Seriously, what the hell does that mean.
[red]17[/red] Lil' Jon & the EastSide Boyz - Get Low A song could have the greatest beats (I'm not saying this does, coz it doesn't) but if it insults my intelligence it gets an automatic [red]F-[/red].
[red]16[/red] Sarai - Ladies Words cannot describe how awful this is. Ladies, put your hands up. Umm, yeah. And another thing... don't try to sound like that unless you can sing like Anastacia or Joss Stone. [red]15[/red] Kelly Clarkson - Miss Independent This song with offensively play-it-safe lyrics sounds like one of those rubber bouncy balls getting punctured over and over again. Someone needs to get her some better material.
[red]14[/red] Pink ft. William Orbit (& it's oh-so-painful to include his name on this) - Feel Good Time See 27 & 28 and multiply that by 6 or 7
EDIT: oh my God. How could I have forgotten about Beyonce. [red]13[/red] Beyonce ft. Seen Pull - Baby Boy (and I really do hate this now, not just because it's her) [red]12[/red] Beyonce - Crazy in Love
(previously: [red]13[/red] Nelly ft. Kelly Rowland - Dilemma [red]12[/red] Kelly Rowland - Stole)
[red]11[/red] Train - Calling All Angels This isn't just a weaker version of "Drops of Jupiter," it's s**tty pretentious propaganda. What kind of morons would include lines like "when children have to play inside so they don't disappear" in a song. I can't think of any song I've heard in my 20 years more pretentious.
[red]10[/red] B2K ft. P. Diddy - Bump Bump Bump When it comes to why this song sucks, I think "shake it like an hourglass" & "see that sexy body go bump bump bump" speak for themselves.
[red]9[/red] Kid Yuck ft. Sheryl Crow - Picture Quite possibly the dumbest song of the year.
[red]8[/red] Lil Kim ft. Christina Gaguilera - Can't Hold Us Down Generic, crappy, and trite, and an on-steroids version of everything that's wrong with these two.
[red]7[/red] Coldplay - God Put a Smile Upon Your Face It was good when Tears for Fears did it, it was alright when Rubyhorse did it, and it was even amusing when Limp Bizkit did it. But it's usually not a good idea to make a song consisting entirely of cliches. Especially when the singer is a whiny British dude and the instrumentals sound like a 3 year old banging on a tin can over and over again. I cannot get over what a horrible mess of a song this is.
[red]6[/red] Jewel - Stand Did Jewel purposely try to sound as crappy as possible & write as pretentious lyrics as possible & (not that this matters but) sound as radio-unfriendly as possibly? A better question is... why the hell were any of you surprised when this didn't become a hit?
[red]5[/red] Sixpence None the Richer - Don't Dream It's Over You cannot sing a sad song like this in a happy voice... or a voice that creaks, skips, & goes all over the place. In a perfect world Neil Finn will have your head delivered on a silver platter. Trash of the worst kind.
[red]4[/red] Justin Timberlake - Senorita Trying to cash in on being imitation Latin but he's a little too late. Unfortunately everyone bought it up anyway. Him trying to be a player would be cute if it wasn't so damn nauseating. And what is with the horrible sounding coeds at the end.
[red]3[/red] Mya - My Love is Like... Wo What a horrible title. But even more, what a horrible song. Just because Destiny's Child had a hit when they sang about their @$$ doesn't mean you should too... theirs sucked horribly and so does yours.
[red]2[/red] The Counting Crows ft. Vanessa Carlton - Big Yellow Taxi They don't add any magic to this song (not that this song could have been saved anyway, but...), all it is is the original song put through the Counting Crows filter. It wouldn't have been so bad if 1) they didn't release it and 2) they didn't get the #1 pop singer to sing for a combined total of about 14 seconds and bill it as "f/ Vanessa Carlton." I really hate this. And if that weren't bad enough every time I hear the song it just sounds worse and worse.
[red]1[/red] Simple Pain - Addicted This song sounds like crap, they rip off Lit twice but it's not even funny because it's been done before and even if it hadn't have been it still wouldn't be funny because Simple Pain isn't clever enough to pull it off, it's associated with such a horrible MTV show (and I even like most cheezy MTV reality shows), and I could go on and on and on....

A few errors:
Why include Ordinary Day when that is clearly a 2002 song? Same for Dilemma... And why say: Lil Kim f/Christina Aguilera? ???

And is Joan Loser supposed to be Joan Osborne or someone else?

Christina Gaguilera - Can't Hold Us Down 4 Justin Timberlake - Senorita 2 The Counting Crows ft. Vanessa Carlton - Big Yellow Taxi 1 Simple Pain - Addicted Songs that made my top 25 of the year list: 40 Michelle Branch - Are You Happy Now? 18 John Mayer - Why Georgia So I give the list a thumbs up overall.

[red]20[/red] Nelly - Air Force OnesUmm, yeah... Is that the best you can do? Heheh just kidding. I thinkthe [red] F-[/red] dotted line should be moved up the page by a song or two. Overall I thought some of your observations were pretty astute and spot-on (e.g. Jason Mraz).

None of those songs ever made my top 10, although Coldplay was very close. And I like Paranoid Social Club, Missy (I can see why you'd hate it tho), Pink, and others, but I find myself agreeing more often than not with you. "With My Own Two Hands" is easily the worst Ben Harper single. Many songs that made my 50-song list of made that list, too. I'm not sure you'd agree with me, but thoughts of any other year being the nail-of-the-coffin have permanently been defeated by 2003. I don't believe it can get worse.

Nice list. A lot of songs I considered to be annoying (Kid Rock, Uncle Kracker, Nelly, Good Charlotte, Train, Sixpence None The Richer, Simple Plan, etc.) or overrated (Matchbox Twenty, 3 Doors Down, though "Here Without You" should've been on the overrated list too) would be on there.

Now that's better...I only have a few that I strongly agree with:
4 Justin Timberlake - Senorita: I'd move it to the guilty pleasure list, because it's indeed awful, but it's funny.
17 Lil' Jon & the EastSide Boyz - Get Low: I don't take it seriously enough for it to insult my intelligence, so I think the song is great.
19 Eminem - Superman: I do care that it's cleverly written, and like "Get Low", I don't take it seriously, so it ends up being hilarious.
So basically, it seems that when I disagree, it's only because I don't try too hard to listen to the songs and end up liking them for the same reason you think they're awful. :)

All I can say is: Only one Timberlake song? And is Joan Loser supposed to be Joan Osborne or someone else? I know, but I don't hate JT's stuff nearly as much as I should. Cry Me a River gets a D+ and Like I Love You & Rock Your Body & his song w/ Black Eyed Peas are around B/B+. And yeah, it's Joan O. Songs that I consider "very annoying" (probably out of about 25): 23 Ben Harper - With My Own Two Hands (I tried to listen to this a couple of days ago, and I could not get past the 1:00 mark) You did yourself a favor... After the intro, there's just like 10 seconds of music looped over, and over, and over till the end. I believe it's about asking why he had to get his big break in Georgia, or something like that. If that's the case... what a horribly pretentious thing to write a song about, especially someone so amateur as him. That makes me want to move it up next to Calling All Angels. I don't understand the insult your intelligence part for Get Low. Insults my intelligence = offensively stupid

HowieDayFan, did my eyes miss viewing songs like "P.I.M.P.", "The Red", "Suga Suga", et. al. which you gave D and F grades to or did they not make the list? 'Cos I thought you would have hated those enough to mention them. Also, I was shocked the first time not to see Beyonce, so perhaps I'm wrong.

I indeed still think that P.I.M.P. sucks, I just forgot it... that one probably would go around 21-22, but I don't feel like editing it for now & it would break my heart to remove any of the songs that are already on the list. "The Red" and "Suga Suga" have each moved up to a C-. ("Suga Suga" would have been higher, but I don't like the "shifted shifted higher than the ceiling, it's the ultimate feeling" line.)

[red]18[/red] John Mayer - Why GeorgiaThis song makes no sense & yet I get the feeling he's trying to make some sort of pretentious statement. Well, "Am I living it right? Am I living it right? Why Georgia why?" isn't going to get one very far. Seriously, what the hell does that mean. I don't quite know how you couldn't understand this song. It's all about finding yourself and wondering whether you're on the right path. He's from Atlanta, so he's asking why he's in Georgia. It's not about him getting his "big break" there. He wrote the song long ago when he didn't even have a deal.
