Hope it's gonna be better than the Evolver album.

I've really been looking forward to this! After last years's alternative #1 "Love Song," it's clear that 311 still has a place on the format. I'm predicting really good things for this, and at least top 5 without even hearing it. Afterall, why exclude 311 when all the other 90's"comeback bands" are experiencing such success?
Audio clip anyone?

YES!!!
I am definitely looking forward to hearing more jam from 311. I liked their first Evolver release, "Creatures (For A While)", but was disappointed in their second release, "Beyond The Gray Sky", not because I didn't like the song, but because I felt it wasn't even close to being radio friendly. Maybe this album can produce 3 charting singles (I certainly hope so).
My local radio station, KRBZ 96.5, is sponsoring a You Present 311 show sometime next year (I believe), where fans can organize and present a show. I also believe 311 are coming to town later this fall with Unwritten Law (yay!!!) and Papa Roach (huh?).
I do think 311 need to reach out a little bit by changing their sound. I do believe they have become more "poppy" or "reggae" with their last several releases as opposed to their more harder-rocking days of "Down". "First Straw" sounded very mellow and poppy, IMO, although it was still an excellent song.
With the success of "Love Song", however (an otherwise mediocre cover, IMO, but it still reached #1) it looks like their days are far from over. Keep marching, guys!!

WHTG just played this. I only got to hear the beginning, but I can tell you that it's very 311. The song started off with an upbeat intro harkening back to a lot of their older stuff, then it went into a more "Amber"-like vibe in the verse.

I must have heard this exactly when Mokus did on WHTG. It came on just as I was navigating my way through a busy parking lot though, so I didn't get to pay too close attention. Sounded pretty good though... it definitely has a ska vibe to it.

I would kill for an mp3 link... as frowned down upon as that is.

I downloaded a high quality version yesterday when I got home from work. Sounds just like a CD rip. The song, while nothing ground breaking, is still VERY good. I think it would have been advantageous to release this earlier in the Summer because of the crazy Jamaican vibe to it, but still, this should be a nice July/August track. Hoping for top 10 success...

I love this, and I think it will have no problem going top 5.

Love this. It's similar to many of their other songs, but they know what works and they're sticking with it. This should be able to do well.

It sounds like it's gonna be something really cool, and then it goes into the Jamacian beat. It's still good though.

This is a GREAT first single! 311 has always been one of my favorite bands, and this song describes why. They're one of the only bands out there that mixes a bunch of different genres into their music as one. This song should be in the top 5 on Alternative eventually as they've had previous success there before. I hope the new album coming out on August 16th sounds as good as this song does.

Upon two listens, I'm slightly disappointed.
I would have expected to hear a harder 311 song, similar to "Creatures (For A While)", a song I adored.
However, it is still a good song, and because 311 have such amazing credibility with their fans and on the charts, I'm going to give it a B+.
I hope this becomes successful enough to make it recurrent, which (to my knowledge) I don't believe "Creatures" did. Here's to hoping for a Top 5 smash. Any other predictions?

I hope it goes to #1, but in all seriousness I'd say it won't go any higher than #6.

I heard this in the shower tonight, which means I wasn't able to get a good read on it. Even though I loved "Love Song" and liked "First Straw" and "Amber", their first singles from their last two albums didn't do much for me, although I did come around to like them just fine. So we'll see how this plays out for me.

I also like this, but it sounds just like I'd expect a 311 song to sound like. It just seems like the band has kept its experimenting to a minimum for their past few albums. From my vantage point, this almost always produces quality songs that'll keep me buying their albums, but it's also the reason they're basically spinning wheels in the mud. There's never any surprises in their music, and if they're going to keep doing it that way, they'll have to be content with having one big "comeback" hit with little longevity, and then 1-2 more minor followup hits per album.
For the record, "Creatures" did make it to recurrent, but not before falling all the way to #43, so it may or may not have dropped out on its own if given another week.

I honestly thought that the chance of seeing 311 in the top 10 again (before I heard this song) was slim to none. But I'm glad radio's taking to it.

I've heard this song twice now, both in full. I really enjoy it. Nothing necessarily new from them, but a great song nonetheless.
