I almost got a chance to hear this on KNDD, but they played "Beverly Hills" in front of it, so I lost interest by changing the station. I'll probably hear it on tonight's People's Choice Countdown, though.
I really hope its not another one of Ben Gibbard's "ba pa"-fests. I think they're capable of both excellent songwriting ("The New Year") and a catchy tune (their cover of "World Shut Your Mouth"), but they're also capable of being semi-annoying ("The Sound of Settling", to an extent anyway). So we'll see where this one falls.

Dull. I loved the previous album though. All my favorite DCFC tracks are on that album.

I really like this a lot, it sounds like a strange combination of Come Clean, The Sound of Settling, and something by Stevie Nicks, as far as the guitar. The song flow is kind of similar to Feel Good Inc. or something like that, kind of hard to describe. I really think this will do well, perhaps Top 20. I'm sure this coming album will have some real gems, and they will be a little more mainstream. I think Death Cab has a chance of being one of the biggest new impact groups to Alternative in the fourth quarter and 2006.
Anyways, very catchy chorus and upbeat.

This one's growing on me, especially since I've had plenty of chances for it to do so. I didn't think it was anything special at first, and Ben's doing "ba ba da" this time. But the instrumentation is kinda cool. And the grandoise-ness sounds OK. Guess it still needs to play out some more for me.

This is really good! Is anyone else getting R.E.M. vibes?

This is really good! Is anyone else getting R.E.M. vibes? Eh, not so much. Maybe in terms of the atmosphere of the song. This feels a lot like a Christmas song, especially with the bells and stuff in the intro. Which is why it's surprising me it's doing so well right now, since this is probably the last song you want to hear on a hot, summer day. Although, maybe not, since it could be a good chill song. Anyway, this has vaulted into the top 50. Looks like these guys are this year's Taking Back Sunday. And it's grown on me somewhat as well (not that it hasn't had many chances to do so). I don't think they'll ever top "The New Year", but this is decent nonetheless.

This is really good! Is anyone else getting R.E.M. vibes? Yes! It's like REM meets Flaming Lips meets Sting. The Sting vibes especially around 2:08.

This song is really starting to take off, has a +200 bullet, and this group keeps getting bigger by the day. The album is pretty good as well, and I believe, as I said earlier, Deathcab will be one of the biggest breakthrough acts of 2006. I believe Soul Meets Body has a chance of going Top 5 and staying in the Top 10 until the holidays. I'm just hoping for a possible release of the Marching Bands of Manhattan or Crooked Teeth next.
Anyone think SMB can crossover to Hot AC or maybe even pop?

I LOVE THIS SONG so much now... This is definitely a grower. This song could very well be Top 10 in a matter of two weeks as long as the bulletles songs keep falling. Who would have thought. I am glad though, I see this being in the Top 10 for a while.

I never really paid much attention to Death Cab For Cutie before until one of the TAs in my Digital Creative Thinking class put their new album on for everyone to hear before class started. I was definitely surprised at what I heard, and I guess can now see why they debuted at #4 on Billboard a few weeks ago. I hope Soul Meets Body keeps gaining spins and has a good run.

Well "Soul Meets Body" has officially made its way into the Top 10. It should hang in the 7-10 range for a while, the only song to jump it will probably be The Strokes with Juicebox and probably in a few weeks, Perfect Situation. Either way, I see this song staying in the Top 10 until after the new year, we'll have to see.
Anyways, with the success this song is achieving on Alternative and Adult Alternative, do you think it will crossover to Hot AC and POP? I think this song would be perfect for Hot AC making a run into the Top 20. POP, I'm not sure if they are ready yet.

Yeah, I can definitely see this being crossed over to Hot AC and Pop, and would probably do very well especially on Pop with success on there with bands like the Killers have had.

Either of you guys think that the album lacks another good single -- I'm a huge fan of their Transatlanticism record, which is excellent, and this new one was a real disappointment for me at least. It reminds me of The Postal Service record, which is basically a boring electronic version of Death Cab.

I could also see this doing well on both Pop and Hot AC. But I would actually think it could do better at Hot AC than Pop. I could see Pop ignoring this one, but Pop has been experimenting a lot lately, so I could be wrong and I hope I am wrong on this one. I would love to see this do well on Pop and Hot AC.

The song is nice, but 'The New Year' was more deserving of this kind of success.

I think this is a solid album the whole way through. I own a couple of there records and do a lot of skipping around on them. But this is good the whole way through. Nice to see them getting some press as well. Well deserved.

As I said earlier, I think Crooked Teeth will be released next, which is probably even more friendly than Soul Meets Body, then the third single will likely be Your Heart Is An Empty Room, or my favorite off of the album, the lead track, Marching Bands of Manhattan. Again, Death Cab will be one of the breakthrough artists of 2006.
I think it is likely to say that 2006 will be a big year for indie rock.

I could see this getting some airplay at Hot AC. The video is being aired on VH1, so that probably helps its chances a little bit.
