It's going to be interesting to see how this turns out in like a month because 8 of those songs are still on the chart.

The Top 3 is all that I know definitively...
1. Evanescence- My Immortal 2. Christina Aguilera- The Voice Within 3. Sarah McLachlan- Fallen
I think this will be the first year Christina will not have the year-end #1. She's had the Year-end #1 since 1999.

Just to take part in this party, here's the current mid-year standings for my version of the pop chart.
I decided to develop a new equation to tally up rankings this year. I used to use an equation based on inverse points, but I felt that songs that peaked high, but weren't on the chart as long, didn't get enough credit and songs that didn't peak as high, but stayed on forever, got too much credit. After studying the Year-End Point Systems thread (http://pulsemusic.proboards12.com/index.cgi?board=personal&action=display&thread=1081313402), I came up with the following cubic equation in Excel (if anyone's interested):
y = - 0.0184x^3 + 3.8476x^2 - 270.07x + 7111.4 where: x = position, y = points
I developed it so that the distribution of points on my top 100 is, approximately, the same as the distribution of spins on a recurrentless Mediabase chart (i.e. #1 gets 7500 points, #25 gets 2500, #50 gets 1000, #75 gets 650, #100 gets 400, you kinda get the general idea). In short, the number of points each song receives, is similar to the actual spin count registered by Mediabase.
Compare my chart to Matt's calculated YTD standings as of the 5/21/04 pop chart (http://pulsemusic.proboards12.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=pop&thread=1084211599&start=75), which is, approximately, the same time window I used. The equation seems to work quite well!
Without further ado, the top 100:

Well, I caved in and did some calculations. I'm still not sure what method I'm going to use, but putting the formula Cerebro used (except dividing by 100 to bring down the numbers a bit ) produced the following results, which seem plausible: (This is through the 6/18 chart, the last chart that was made when I made the original projections of my top 10) AP (PP) Pk 01 (01) 01 Lostprophets - Last Train Home 02 (02) 01 Incubus - Megalomaniac 03 (04) 01 Switchfoot - Dare You to Move (#4 for 2003) (^) 04 (10) 03 Blink-182 - I Miss You 05 (05) 01 OutKast - Roses (^) 06 (03) 01 Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Maps 07 (06) 01 OutKast - The Way You Move 08 (––) 05 Offspring - (Can't Get My) Head Around You) 09 (––) 04 Trapt - Echo 10 (––) 06 Maroon 5 - This Love 11 (07) 01 Evanescence - My Immortal (#19 for 2003) 12 (08) 01 Jason Mraz - You and I Both 13 (––) 08 Yellowcard - Ocean Avenue 14 (––) 03 Michael Andrews f/Gary Jules - Mad World 15 (––) 02 Jay-Z - Dirt Off Your Shoulder 16 (09) 01 Seether f/Amy Lee - Broken (^) I'm a bit surprised by Blink-182's position, but I guess I did like it a lot for a while, even though it never made the top 2. 24-week chart run for "IMY": 36 30 22 16 7 3 3 4 4 4 7 5 3 5 9 12 19 27 32 39 54 70 81 98 The rest of the top 40: Pos Pk 17 03 Howie Day - Perfect Time of Day 18 05 Story of the Year - Until the Day I Die 19 05 Chingy f/J. Weav - One Call Away 20 06 Brand New - Sic Transit Gloria... Glory Fades 21 04 Britney Spears - Toxic 22 01 OutKast - Hey Ya! 23 06 Atomship - Pencil Fight 24 10 A Perfect Circle - The Outsider 25 02 Mario Winans f/P. Diddy & Enya - I Don't Wanna Know 26 05 The Darkness - I Believe In a Thing Called Love 27 05 Evanescence - Everybody's Fool 28 05 Black Eyed Peas - Hey Mama 29 01 No Doubt - It's My Life 30 11 Jet - Cold Hard Bitch 31 14 Muse - Time Is Running Out 32 09 Rooney - I'm Shakin' 33 11 The Ataris - The Saddest Song 34 09 The Offspring - Hit That 35 12 311 - Love Song 36 10 Matchbox Twenty - Downfall 37 08 Sugarcult - Memory 38 14 Anberlin - Ready Fuels 39 11 Staind - How About You 40 18 Usher f/Lil' Jon & Ludacris - Yeah! (lol) I also might throw some album cuts in the mix at the end of the year, so that could affect this even more.

Commentary:
These are the hundred songs that did best on my chart for the first half of this year. One thing interesting is the domination of songs that have never been released as singles. They’re still making great songs, but they’re just not putting them out as singles. The most successful single on my chart was “My Immortal” by Evanescence at #5, which was on my chart long before it was released as a single. I’m hoping that some of the other songs will be released, but I’m getting discouraged. “Falls On Me” by Fuel at #9 and “White Flag” by Dido at #10 are the other singles in my Top 10. My favorite song of the year, “The Noose” by A Perfect Circle, is an extraordinary song that impressed me greatly the first time I heard it. It’s very eerie and dramatic, and very unlike any other song out there, and it would stand out above the other songs if played on the radio, so I think it should be a single, on alternative and rock stations, naturally. I’m also very impressed with APC’s “The Package” at #6, but it’s probably too long to be considered for radio airplay. Outstanding song, though. All in all, APC has 4 songs in the Top 40. I’ve charted a couple other of their songs and am about to chart their latest release.
Seal also got 2 songs in the Top 10, including the #2 song, 3 in the Top 15, 4 in the Top 25, 6 in the Top 50, and 8 in the Top 100. His 3 best songs on his latest CD have not yet been released, and another of his best, #40 “Touch”, was played on jazz stations only. The #2 “Loneliest Star” is such a beautiful, smooth song, I hope it does get released next, but having seen #61 “Get It Together” debut on 2 personal charts this past week, I’m thinking that’s the next release, even though I’ve seen it as a single in the CD stores since the fall, and it already was a big dance hit. #8 “Where There’s Gold” and #14 “Heavenly” are also smooth, haunting songs that deserve attention.
Blue has been all over my charts for more than 1 ½ years now, and they’re all over this chart, too: 5 in the Top 30, 11 in the Top 60, and 17 in the Top 80. They’re another act that isn’t necessarily releasing its best songs as singles, although in the US, it doesn’t matter, since there are no Blue singles here, not even the CD’s. I first heard Blue when I was in a CD store in Bangkok almost 2 years ago, and “All Rise” was being played in the store. I immediately fell for it; 2 more songs from the CD were played, and I just had to buy that CD. The only time that had ever happened to me before, that I bought a CD simply upon hearing it at the store, was about 2 dozen years earlier, when I heard the first side of the LP I Robot by the Alan Parsons Project, an act I was totally unfamiliar with, and lo and behold, the APP became my favorite artist of all time. What do you know? The same is happening with Blue. I haven’t liked this much 3 albums/CD’s in a row by one artist since Parsons, as different as their music might be from each other. My Malaysian friend had told me that Blue was his favorite group, but having not heard any of their music, I didn’t pay him much heed. But he has been kind enough to send me their next 2 CD’s since. Their first CD, All Rise, did release its 2 best songs as singles, the title track and “Fly By”, but at least 3 more of the songs could have been big hits: #52 “Bounce”, #26 “Back Someday” and #37 “Girl I’ll Never Understand”. Actually the whole CD was great throughout. But their next CD was released later that same year, so there wasn’t much time to release as many songs as they could have otherwise, based on their worldwide popularity. This followup CD was solid throughout with no weak songs. The ones they did release, other than the title track, “One Love”, were probably not among their best. They also seem to feel the necessity to make their second release of each CD their only remake on it. Why they do that, when their original stuff is much better, is beyond me. That coupled with the fact that the titles of several other songs on their CD’s are the same as big hits of other artists, such as “You Make Me Wanna”, “Right Here Waiting” and “I Wanna Know”, even though they’re actually originals, makes them look like they’re big on covers, even though they’re not. And for their latest CD, I can name about 7 songs that I think would make better singles than anything they’ve released so far. Among ballads, they released #64 “Guilty” first, a good song but nothing special, and #71 “Breathe Easy”, a song that keeps growing on me, but I think #23 “When Summer’s Gone” and #60 “How’s A Man Supposed To Change?” are even better. For faster, kickin’ songs, #27 “Stand Up” immediately struck me as a hit, and #42 “Rock The Night” is probably even more certain, and #63 “Taste It” would come before #77 “Bubblin”, the one that seems to be their 4th release, and all are much better than their cover of Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered”. For mid-tempo songs, #21 “Alive” couldn’t miss, it’s so excellent, and #19 “Walk Away” has such a great beat, a beautiful melody, and lots of emotion. I love it. They definitely deserve to be singles.
Fuel’s problem was they gave up too soon, with their deepest CD yet. I’m not sure why #29 “Million Miles” didn’t do better, but they have other great songs. Four made this chart. Staind’s big mistake was releasing #55 “Zoe Jane” for alternative and rock while they should have released it for Hot AC, Pop, and maybe AAA, and put out #28 “Yesterday” for alternative and rock. Four Staind songs are also on this chart. Dido has released the right songs, but not always to US radio: #31 “Life for Rent” was released in Europe, but not here, and apparently #30 “Stoned” was a big hit in the clubs, but I only heard it once on radio as part on a CD preview. She has some more candidates for single release, but the performance of #13 “Don’t Leave Home” on US public radio has to be disappointing. Dido’s 2 regular US releases, “White Flag” and “Don’t Leave Home” are both in the Top 15. She has 5 songs in the Top 31, and 6 overall. I’d recommend #25 “Who Makes You Feel?” as her next single. Shinedown has 4 songs in the Top 100, led by #41 “Lacerate”, which I think should be released as a single, but unfortunately they’ve instead released “Simple Man”, which sounds like an old rock song, and is not as good as most of their material from their CD. Travis, pretty much ignored by US radio, has 5 songs on my chart, including 2 in the Top 20, #17 “Re-Offender” and #20 “Happy To Hang Around”, and 4 in the Top 50.
No other artist has more than 2 songs on the chart, but one of them comes from a CD more than 2 years old that also should have been released as a single, but not in the formats this band is used to. #3 “Darkness” by Disturbed could be a big hit on AAA and Hot AC, and maybe even AC. It rivals “My Immortal” in tenderness and beauty. #8 “How Deep Is Your Love?” by Keith Sweat is an unreleased album cut from the ‘80's that I recently discovered on a new Greatest Hits CD by Keith Sweat. It’s not the identically titled song by the Bee Gees, nor the one by Dru Hill, but it’s every bit as good as those songs. Three more songs in the Top 12 deserve mention, partly for their longevity on my charts, a year or so each: the best song of the well-written but poorly produced American Life CD by Madonna, #4 “Love Profusion”; #11 “Music”, a lovely, inspirational gem by Vivian Green; and “Sunrise” by Simply Red, a tasteful song that I’ve been hearing only occasionally for well over a year, just enough to keep me remembering it and wanting more. Rounding out the Top 20 are 3 songs that did at least as well on the R&R and Billboard charts as on mine: #15 “The Way You Move” by Outkast, #16 “Here Without You” by 3 Doors Down, and #18 “Everything About You” by 3 Days Grace.
