All signs are pointing to this as the third single. Chris has been saying it's up next in interviews, and it has a confirmed UK release of January 23.
I love it. Good choice, though "Whie Shadows" would have been my first choice.

Finally, a single that's good enough to make my personal chart.
I think all of the first three songs on the album would make good singles, though.

Ahh... how refreshing. After "Fix You," which I consider to be the most boring alternative single ever released, this is really nice. I like the tempo and the background ambience of it. Hope this does good things in the future.

I like it a lot and way more than "Fix You" which was just too shrill for me.

This should have been released as the second single to begin with, where this could definitely have given Coldplay another Top 10.
It won't hit on Hot AC or the Top 40, but this is just the single they need to release to maintain their Alternative fanbase, with the Radiohead/Kraftwerk vibes.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Sincerely, Noah Eaton Noah, I always take your opinions in the highest regards, but I disagree. I think Talk will outpeak any song Coldplay has released to POP. I think this is their strongest single off of the album, and if they have a clever video and proper promotion, this song with an extremely catchy chorus could finally put them through. Agreed though, this should have been released second. I love White Shadows, but I don't see how that will ever be released, too hard. If Talk is successful, I see The Hardest Part being a strong Spring single and then we won't hear from Coldplay until Fall 2007.

If Talk is successful, I see The Hardest Part being a strong Spring single and then we won't hear from Coldplay until Fall 2007. "Talk" has a strong, infectious chorus, but the rest of the song (and don't get me wrong, I find the entire song to sound beautiful) sounds very atmospheric, too good and atmospheric for mainstream radio. Plus you have the duration (just over 5 minutes) and cutting the track would be blasphemy. I disagree with you on "White Shadows" sounding too hard. I don't think that track either would hit on mainstream radio, but Alternative would worship it with its 80's metronome and energy. I absolutely agree with you, however on "The Hardest Part". Now THAT's the track that could give Coldplay another hit on Hot AC and Top 40, though in terms of quality I find it be one of the weaker tracks on the album just because it lacks the "swagger" and lyrical depth of other tracks on "X&Y". ("The Hardest Part" would flop here) Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Goes for adds November 1. Whoa, much sooner than I was expecting. I think it's a smart decision though.

This is good news, and I agree that it's a smart decision. Hmm, "Fix You"...

Did they up the pitch for the radio version?

Did they up the pitch for the radio version? I hope not! What is with them wanting to sound as shrill as possible?

Did they up the pitch for the radio version? I hope not! What is with them wanting to sound as shrill as possible? I heard this on the radio the other day, it sounded a little more grating than I remember it sounding. I went back and listened to it on the CD and it sounded great. I think they might have changed things around a little for the radio version, too.

Nice! That's on top of a lot of pre-impact adds too. I was worried Coldplay alienated Alt by releasing "Fix You," but apparently the format is still open to them.

41 29 COLDPLAY Talk 2005 Capitol 677 333 344 4.750
Wow, this is taking off much, much faster than I would have expected. Does anyone else think Coldplay have the capability to pull off another top 5 hit? If so, will this be the one?
My station has been playing this in light rotation as an "album track" since the album was released. It still grows on me each day. Still, this undeniably Coldplay's home format and, even with the "lightness" (if you will) of "Fix You", it appears they are far from done here chartwise.

It's up to #9 with the current largest gains.
This appears to be a possible home run for the band.

I wonder if they're going to go for a fourth single after this or head right into recording the next album.

I wonder if they're going to go for a fourth single after this or head right into recording the next album. I heard The Hardest Part already on XM and I believe it is a confirmed fourth single in the UK slated for late winter\early Spring.

I wonder if they're going to go for a fourth single after this or head right into recording the next album. There will undoubtedly be a fourth single. They're currently touring, the album has only been out for about half a year and "Talk" has already surpassed the performance of "Fix You". Sincerely, Noah Eaton
