Perhaps by this time next year Delta Goodrem will have done rather well in establishing herself in America?
The CEO of Sony U.S.A. *David Lack?*says they'll be doing everything in their power to push her in America and if she doesn't suceed it won't be for 'lack of trying'.

I think Gwen Stefani is going to have a big year. Her album has so much potential to be one of the biggest sellers of 2005. If she and her label play their cards right, she could have some longevity. Her album is performing almost the same way Pink's M!ssundazstood did in the beginning, and we all know what happened with that CD after the RIGHT singles were released. Good luck to Gwen.
Eminem, of course, is probably going to have another big year. But I suspect he won't be as prominent as he's been in the past.
Mario has a shot at becoming the male Ciara of 2005, if he can sell his album decently on the back of Let Me Love You, which looks like a contender for the pole position on the Hot 100. We'll see if he's got a 1, 2 Step to follow-up with. Then again, maybe he's too much in the vein of Usher, and since there's already one Usher saturating the market right now, there may not be too much demand for "part 2" of that kind of domination.
There's probably going to be a really hot breakout group this year, too. Maroon 5 did it this year, but there's probably another band emerging that's going to blow us all away. I can't wait.

i agree about gwen. i think she has a lot of potential. i really luved her in no doubth, but "what u waiting for" simply did not do anything for a lot of people, including me. i still don't know what to think of "rich girl", but i'm really really hoping that she will come up with really tight singles in the futures.
i also agree with the eminem comment! although his sales has been almost the same, it's very interesting to note that "just lose it" never made the #1 position in BB (which is weird because almost all his tracks go straight up there) and his next single "like soldiers" is not really making any buzz (although it's a really great track). i think this is because of the radio stations playing almost all eminem songs from his album without an official second single (mockingbird, encore, etc).
i'm not feeling mario. i think he's gonna disappear just like mario winans did. ciara is a different case. she's more of a hip hop star, not an rNb singer. rNb singers tend to be unmemorable.
if rca chooses the right singles for her, kelly clarkson could potentially become the queen of pop for '05. her album has a lot of potential and it has received some critical acclaim, which is unusual for someone who came from AI.
anyone else think 50 cent won't be as big as before? i certainly do! for some reason, something is different.... i can't put my finger on it.
on the award shows, look for nelly, eminem, destiny's child and potentially kelly clarkson and gwen stefani to dominate.

i haven't heard mario's album but i have a feeling it won't have another hit, the song sounds like "we got lucky with a really good song"... plus like you said he's sort of an Usher clone.
i agree about eminem, strong sales but he's not going to be topping any singles charts. still will be an okay year for him.
"Soldier" is gonna carry DC through this winter, and by spring I think they'll have a third big hit, a fourth in the summer, if they keep making good choices and doing the right promotion.
more on the R&B front, Faith Evans is set to have an awesome year in 2005, her single (which hasn't leaked yet) is a Scott Storch production, the list of producer's she's working with is insane, and the two leaked tracks are all both top notch. the album drops feb 15...
the same day as 50 cent-- defn. gonna be a huge year for him.

Coldplay will be back with a new album, and I think this one will receive the most radio support yet (there's much more hype leading into this project than the last one and their fanbase has more than doubled since then).
Keane needs to break through!
Tiziano Ferro needs to make an English album, based off his Italian hits, and hit the big time here... unfortunately he has no plans to make an English album.
I wonder who will dominate R&B (not hip-hop, but R&B) since Alicia and Usher will be wrapping their albums up with most of 2005 still left.
Who, if anyone, will make substantial comebacks in 2005?

Keane have atleast 3-4 other singles that will be considered for release here, and with that said, 2005 might be the year of Keane. As for awesome comebacks, I still say that Weezer and Garbage will be back in a big big way. The Dave Ghrol appearance had a major effect on Garbage and the new album for the most part is back to Garbage/Version 2.0. Should be embraced by alternative. Plus, Weezer have shown that when they wait a while between releases, their new music is great and will be excepted by the masses (see Hash Pipe being screwed out of #1 by the insanely crappy It's Been a While). I think the new single from the new album from Weezer will be huge.

Backstreet Boys! ... OK, seriously.... I think that Eminem will continue to have success in 2005, but I have a feeling that radio is playing too many singles too soon. Come on - there are plenty of Eminem recurrents and golds that we don't need to have 4 singles from the album out all at once. I'm actually in the minority in thinking Gwen is not going to be HUGE in 2005. Yeah, she'll have a couple of hits, but I really think the project was overhyped to the point that anything short of having top 3s or #1s is a failure for her. I also see Kelly Clarkson continuing radio presence in 2005 on her main formats - pop, AC, and hot AC.

As an aside/addendum...
Does anyone know if Stacie Orrico is working on a new project?

I think on the CHR side of things that everyone else should fear Green Day and Jimmy Eat World. Boulevard Of Broken Dreams and Work will cream the competition, if not each other.
Now that I think of it, I think there will be another harder sounding crossover that will hit big. Possibly Hysteria from Muse? Its certainly catchy enough and you don't have to wade through philosophy to get into the song.

I'm so excited about Garbage's return, but I honestly did not like Beautiful Garbage. It was definitely not the Garbage I came to love with the other records. I hope the new one is more in the vein of the self-titled record, which is, to this day, my favorite by them. Hopefully they'll make a nice comeback.

I'm actually in the minority in thinking Gwen is not going to be HUGE in 2005. I agree... I mean her first single didn't even crack the Top 15 even with all the hype, then dropped like a brick. Now, her second single is doing alright but its hardly setting the chart on fire.

BOBD is a given... and "Work" just sounds like a big hit. Also, I'm going to say Sum 41 will have their biggest hit to date with "Pieces," which is actually good.

No one's mentioned this yet, but according to her official site www.madonna.com, Madonna is actually back in the studio working on an as of yet unspecified project. While her last album was commerically unsuccessful for the most part, she did just come off of the biggest selling tour of 2004. She also semi made up for her lack of hits off of "American Life" by hitting #11 with Britney Spears on "Me Against the Music" last fall. I think by the end of the summer, Madonna will be back with a new album and end up hitting in a big way this time around.

"just lose it" never made the #1 position in BB (which is weird because almost all his tracks go straight up there) im pretty sure that the only eminem song to go top spot on BB hot 100 was 'lose yourself' (12 weeks) i kno that 'without me' got to #2, an im guessing that a few others did too.

The new album should fare better than American Life (Let's face it, it's not hard to top sales just shy of 700K), but I can't see Madonna being big again, atleast not in the States. Madonna is a major force internationally, but in the States, I think she may be stuck between a rock and a hard place. It really is going to depend on the SOUND of her music. The woman has done everything, and I mean everything with her image and sound -- it's kind of hard for her to do anything unexpected at this point. I don't think she's changed much musically, post- Ray Of Light, but I wouldn't say she's been stagnant either. Who knows with her. I'd like to see her make a comeback, because I want the OG divas to show the youngins how it's done. Madonna, Mariah, Whitney, Janet -- emerge again, please!

i don't see madonna being big again. something's change when she became a mother; she lost some of her artistry and i think her energy is now more focused on being a mom. and good for her, some things are more important in life...

"dip it low" is nominated for a Grammy and so is her album so SOMEBODY took her seriously. besides if Ciara could get another hit after releasing a song called "goodies"(which is not Grammy nominated ) i am sure Milian will be fine if her label promotes her right.

Bob, do you know if Monica has an album coming out in '05? If she does, I think the unsuspected return of her last year with a BB200 #1 album, the #1 R&B Single of 2003, and then then the surprise hit of "USKB" will set her up nicely for radio support with the next album, IF she doesn't let too much time pass.

Spring sounds good for Monica.. I too think it'll do well if she doesn't wait too long.
a new New Order album titled Atlantic is due in Feb. i'm not really expecting it to blow up, but I think it will get a little more mainstream attention than Get Ready did a few years ago.

yeah, without any delays (beyond the STANDARD delays) we may have a new monica album before fall, which i agree has potential to be awesome. "after the storm" didn't sell millions of copies or anything, but it definitely built her reputation back up and got her back in the public eye.

I feel that After The Storm was as successful as it could've been under the circumstances she was dealt.
Promotion sucked MAJOR ass - let's face it. She sold around 900,000 copies on the back of two major urban hit singles. Her videos got played, but not nearly as much as they should have.
I think, despite the hardships, Monica had a successful year. Her album was on the charts longer than expected and U Should've Known Better was a hit because it was a good song - point blank.
