Hay! i wonder wahta happend with power ballads like "Un-break my heart" or "the power of love". They are not in the radio because there are too much hip hop these days. i hope with The digital downloads in the billboard hot 100, these kind of music will be back on the charts. :)

"Boulevard of Broken Dreams" is a power ballad. :)
But yes, overall, you just don't see many of them now. I still believe the Darkness got screwed with "Love Is Only A Feeling" never even earning a chance at airplay here.

If I aint got u - Alicia Keyes Thats a power ballad. It's soulfully a powerful ballad. However, as far as sound is concerned, that wouldn't be considered a power ballad either. Power ballads are pretty much usually characterized as more lengthier tracks with a huge rock and roll type of sound aspect to it, usually ranging from an electric-charged chorus to pop metal. Bon Jovi are well known for power ballads. Guns n Roses too. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I miss the big Power Ballads on radio for sure...they are my favorite type of song. I love hearing a vocalist hit those big money notes....and you always find them in big ballads. Of course, no one in this world can write a power ballad like Diane Warren. However, Sam Watters and Louis Biancaniello have written some great ones over the past few years. (I Surrender, Anytime, I Wanna Love You Forever, and I Believe) Diane's best power ballad is "If I Could Turn Back Time" by Cher. Everything about that song is so bombastic, so over-the-top…it just makes you want to push up the volume and blast the song.

I don't think any of the new songs previously mentioned could be considered power ballads. If I Ain't Got You is a soulful R&B ballad, but when I think of "power ballad" - I think of a pop ballad with a powerful voice behind it. Or even one of those hair metal ballads with a loud voice behind it. lol.
Honestly, the last "power ballad" I've heard on the radio was Through The Rain by Mariah Carey, and that was craptastic to me. Whisper central.
I think they're just way out of style, at this point.

Very few, if any current songs are true power ballads. As others have said, they are usually big productions with booming choruses. Hoobastank's "The Reasson" & Alicia Keys "If I Aint Got You" are definitely not power ballads. I would say Faith Hill's "Cry" is the best example of a power ballad to come out in the past few years.
The 80's pop-metal acts defined the genre, as did groups such as Styx, Journey & REO Speedwagon. Air Supply's "Making Love Out Of Nothing At All" may be my personal favorite power ballad.

there are two completely definition of power ballad floating around in here. The standard example is like a Diane Warren song sung by Celine Dion... okay, so Def Leppard and such is a completely different definition. And the guy that started this thread was talking about the former, not the latter.

Well the end of the 90's was a powerballad craze and now no one wants to hear them... I hate hearing a typical 90's power ballad... they just seem so contrieved these days.

Me too Power ballad are what i prefer! And in this style Lara Fabian release a single in america this summer "the last goodbye" and maybe only 15 radios stations have played the single! On her album A Wonderful Life you can find 2 wonderful power ballads "I guess I loved you" and "Intoxicated". You can here a full clip of "I Guess I Loved you" here: stat.correioweb.com.br/105fm/mais-pedidas/chmusica9.raIt's so frustating that Sony put no effort in Lara!

A power ballad is a metal love song... like Every Rose Has It's Thorn by Poison or Never Say Goodbye by Bon Jovi... the meaning has just been distorted more recently to include the likes of every other Celine and Mariah song.

Umm... Britney.
The event in which I got kicked in the balls because I said brutal things about the "music" of Britney Spears never happened because someone said anything about nausea and music.
Hell, how was I bringing Britney down? Did Mrs. Spears hear me and if so, is she upset? Do kittens and puppies and other cuddlie, warm and great things die whenever someone says something bad about the person that you worship?
Please tell me you're being sarcastic and that you could understand word for word what I meant to say. Everyone else who read it seemed to.
