Sitting here, watching MTV, which for some odd reason actually has music videos on, and a few that I haven't seen yet to boot...So I thought I'd write a few short lines reviewing some current videos...
Hold On, Good Charlotte - Very touching video and a great song, but the family members talking about their experiences with suicide bring this into "Tears From Heaven" territory...It's good, but it's depressing...I was literally close to crying...Rating: *** (out of 4)...
You Don't Know My Name, Alicia Keys - The song does nothing for me, but the video is quite enjoyable...I love that it plays along with the song, fitting it perfectly...And the story unfolds in a great way...Rating: ***1/2 (out of 4)...
Feeling This, Blink-182 - Nowhere near the best Blink-182 video (in fact it's probably at the bottom of their list) but still okay...The concept is interesting, but the execution is very hit or miss...Some of the stuff (two people simulating sex with a glass panel between them) just comes across as silly, and not the good type of silly...More like the oh give me a break type of silly...Rating: **1/2 (out of 4)...
It's My Life, No Doubt - I love this video! It just works on so many levels. First off, the song is horrible, but this video does something not many can. It makes me forget about the bad bad music and focus on the story playing out...This was filmed to perfection...It reminds me entirely of a Coen Brothers' movie, and that's definitely a good thing...Rating: **** (out of 4)...
I Keed, Triumph The Insult Comic Dog - May this is one of those it's funnier when you watch it high videos, I don't know, but being totally clean and sober, the video struck me as horrible...Sure some of the lyrics in the actual song had me laughing, but the video itself is a total waste...Clearly it was a take-off on those many dark, big money rap videos that were more common in the late '90s than right now, perhaps part of the reason why this video simply doesn't work...Most of the jokes fall flat too, like the "poopmation" segments, and the "Dogs Gone Wild"...Bad bad video...I serious...Rating: * (out of 4)...
