Is it just me or does John Mayer sound exactly like Dave Matthews in "Bigger Than My Body"? Listen again and see. Also, the whole song sounds like something that Dave Matthews Band would do, in my opinion. Freaky Fly Bry didn't think so, but I sure do. What do you think? Me and Freeaky Fly Bry wanna know!

Yes.
I NEVER thought John Mayer sounded like DMB, and I never saw how people compared them. Then once this song came out, I really saw the similarities. Maybe that's why I liked this song more than all of John Mayer's other singles.
I don't think their voices sound alike though... Dave's voice is far superior.

Please say you are joking on Dave's voice! His voice is not that good, but it doesn't matter because he makes up for it with great songs.

He always did a good impression of Dave Matthews.... very good impression! I'll have to listen to "Bigger Than My Body" again to see for myself.

If you read what i said more cloesly, I never said Dave has a great voice. I just said it's far superior to John Mayer's voice. John's voice really irks me, I'd like his songs a lot better if it weren't for his voice. Dave's voice never bothered me in that way (obviously not if Dave Matthews Band is my favorite artist).

My bad. I read too much into it.

I always saw John as a Dave clone. If you watch the "No Such Thing" video John copies Dave's movements while singing the song. he sounds similar to him as well. He's just a better looking version of the guy.
I wouldn't say Dave has a good voice, but it is very unique and fits well with the songs he writes.

That's another thing. When they're in concert, they both bend over the exact same way singing on the mike

I think as far as genre as concerned, he's right in the same league as him, but his album "Heavier Things" sounds quite different than any Dave Matthews Band album. There's quite a lot of keyboards and horn selections throughout the album, and not nearly as much guitar than on "Room For Squares", while the guitar is by far Dave's signature instrument all the time.
I think Dave Matthews is far more talented than John Mayer, but I think there are enough distinguishments between the two that don't make them alter-egos or something!
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I thought the exact same thing. Really sounded like Dave to me. But, I read that John did that song as a tribute to Coldplay and was trying to mimic their sound.
How do you think this song did? I don't hear it at all anymore.
Also, was this new John Mayer album eligible for the recent Grammy nominations?

I never thought about it before, but now that I think about it, there are some similarities. "Your Body Is A Wonderland" is a song that Dave could've done. In fact, I remember reading one critic saying that it was 2002's version of "Crash Into Me".

I thought this was a nice topic to bring this up in because I didn't want to start another topic. Anyway, I was listening to the new Liz Phair song last night (extraordinary), and she sounds like another music legend: Madonna.
