Which artists have the most unique style in everything (music, clothes, etc.) Which artists can individually be placed into their own category. IMO there should be no mentionings of Christina & Britney in this topic!

I also thought of Vanessa Carlton (Bjork being the clear choice), it's not shown through Vanessa's singles, but her album definitely shows her indiviuality.
Coldplay tries to be different, all the while trying to be like Radio head.

Aimee Mann comes to my mind when I think of unigue artist. She had a wild look in the 80's while she was with Til' Tueday and I don't realy hear her type of music at all. "Save Me" should've been a top 40 hit :(

Absolutely. Bjork is like a whole genre to me. Bjork. No Question about it. Otherwise even though Busta Rhymes is obviously a rapper, nobody has his style. Absolutely NOBODY.

Ok, besides Bjork, I would have to say David Bowie since the 70s until these days.

Alysha Antonino is pretty unique. From Darkchild pop to old granny rock. From girl next door to Mikaila next door.

Kelis -- no one puts out music like hers, but she also doesn't only let the Neptunes just write all her material for her.
She's a friend of a friend, and they design all their own clothes together and only buy jewelry and stuff from random countries around the world.
Definitely unique compared to the Ashanti's and the Beyonce's of the music world.

Here are some I think are incredibly self-genre.
Aimee Mann: Incredible songwriter with a hugely underrated rock sound that continues to re-design itself each album, from straight-forward on "Whatever" and "I'm With Stupid" to Burt Bacharach-esque production on "Bachelor No. 2" to spaced-out production on "Lost In Space". Very underrated artist, with a number of songs that could have hit big ("Could've Been Anyone, "I Should've Known", "Red Vines", "Ghost Town", "Humpty-Dumpty" being some of them)
Bruce Cockburn: Incredibly underrated artist and in my opinion one of the best guitarists. Incredibly versatile songwriter who bases much of his material on his travels and adventures across the world, speaking of love, politics, culture, etc.
Paul Simon: He's never afraid to experiment with the sounds of the world. "Graceland" had a lot of African influence, "The Rhythm Of The Saints" a lot of South American influence, and "You're The One" some regional Latin influence. With experimenting, he also maintains the acoustic rock sound fans cherished when he was with Art Garfunkel.
Peter Gabriel: (Look above at Paul Simon)
B-52's (currently inactive) In my opinion the band that has the most fun of all. Their lyrics are incredibly unorthodox in the rock atmosphere and take many intergalactic and beach tripping. Their kind of fun rock and roll is what Pop radio is lacking a lot right now.
Shakira: In my opinion the most poetical Latin artist. Along with her rock-infused pop, she has put a unique Arabic blend to a number of her songs, along with putting the Latin spirit into pop radio (ex: pan flutes in "Whenever, Wherever")
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I think Vanessa Carlton has a very unique style in her music, with the piano and all. I also think Nelly Furtado is very unique, her music styles and her background and the fact that she wears clothing styles that I've never seen anyone else wear. She even makes her own clothes! "Powerless" is a very unique sounding song.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Missy Elliott. Her songs are just off the hook; nothing out there is close to what she's put forth lately.
"Work It", "Get Ur Freak On" and even "Pass That Dutch" are a testimony to her relentless creativity.

"Work It", "Get Ur Freak On" and even "Pass That Dutch" are a testimony to her relentless creativity. Except that it is difficult to distinguish any of those three songs from each other. That's not very creative in my book when she's using the exact same rhythm and song structure for all of those.

I'm sorry but you cant be calling someone unique and then mention a song that's been sampled from another song to prove your case.

I'd have to disagree here. I agree that her style is unique, but not her music. I don't see anything original about having the most overused production team in the industry doing all of your songs.

Madonna, Missy Elliot, Trick Daddy. I'm not saying that trying to be Unique is bad or good its both. none of these are unique... Hip-hop is a style on it's own, whether your music doesn't sound like a clone of everything else doesn't make you unique, but otherwise original, there's a fine line between the two.. Madonna hasn't been ahead of the game at all, would she be a step or two ahead, then i could consider her unique, but only her style can be considered somewhat unique, but it can easily be matched... Lorenna McKennit is unique, Enya as well... but there is someone EVERYBODY FORGOT!!!! SIGUR ROS!

As much as I like Kelis, she doesn't belong here simply because even though she is unique, she's not "Individual" since basically the Neptunes defined her sound (except some of her new album).
I agree Missy should be on here though. She's definitely unique.
