I never really thought she had that strong a voice, though she did make up for it with consistently excellent material, tracks like "All Through The Night" really don't sound well-sung.
But i'm really shocked by how good she is on her new album. "At Last" is just an utterly amazing vocal, and in "Unchained Melody" she does something i've never heard her do and hits a really high note. Not exactly Mariah high, but it's still a surprise.
Does anyone know what her range actually is?

I believe I read that she has a four-octave range.
I'm kind of surprised that you're just now discovering how great her voice is. Granted, some of her earlier more upbeat material was yelpy (appropriately so I might add), but she's always shone on her ballads. She dropped most of her cutesy vocal tics on the A Night To Remember album, and has been singing pretty straight-forward ever since.

At one point, Cyndi strained her vocal cords really badly. I remember Casey Kasem telling the story about it back in the 80s. It was almost to the point to where she probably wouldn't have been able to sing anymore.
