I've been listening to Keane's "Hopes and Fears" CD lately. Boy, that guy can sing! I'm trying to figure out who he reminds me of. I'm thinking Boy George/Art Garfinkle/George Michael. The songs are very catchy after a few listens. Some sound like Beatles to me, others like Beach Boys. Some very 80s sound.
Do you know anything about this band? Wondering where the name comes from. I know "Somewhere Only We Know" is a single. Any others?
I like the album, but don't think I'm going to buy it.

I have the album. I like it pretty well, I'd probably buy another from them.
That's about it though. I'm not into them enough to know the details about them.

I like the album, but don't think I'm going to buy it. I love Keane! I was hesitant about buying their album because there was a lot of hype around them and that sort of made me reluctant to give them a try. But thankfully, I did buy the album and I was more than pleased with it. It's a brilliant album. The lead singer's voice reminds me, at times, of Fran Healy (Travis lead singer). All I know about Keane is that they're from England. I don't know where the name came from. Somewhere Only We Know was the first single and they've released Everybody's Changing (I think) as a followup. I highly recommend the album.

Yeah, you know I forgot to mention that. It does sound an awful lot like Travis. Travis is actually one of my favorite groups.

I am definitely going to have to remember to request Travis CDs at my library. Gonna be a while though. I went in with a list of about 15 CDs a few weeks ago. They either reserved or bought all of the ones I requested, so I am getting a call every few days from the library to come pick up my reserved items. I don't have enough time in the day to listen to everything! I even broke down and bought a CD player for my office so I can listen all day at work. But I've read reviews of Keane that mentions that they have a resemblance to Travis and Coldplay. He's got a much better voice than Chris Martin, though! I had read that they were British but when I heard how he sings "can't" like "cont" in one of the songs I new he wasn't an American. LOL!

I really like Keane, though at this point I've only heard 4 songs. "Everybody's Changing" is one of the best songs I've heard in a long time, it has such a great feel to it and I'm really pulling for its success as a single here in '05. Travis is actually one of my favorite groups. Me too, though I haven't listened to them in a long time. "Writing to Reach You" is one of my favorite songs of ALL TIME. "Sing" and "Side" were both #1's on my chart in 2001. I also saw Travis live in the summer of '01 and they rocked.

Bedshaped is my favourite. The video is my favourite of last year, makes me cry.

Another Keane (and Travis) fan here. Tim Rice-Oxley just has this talent for writing these very catchy, memorable songs, that have melancholy and darkness beneath them, often. And I really love Tom Chaplin's voice (him seeming to gasp for air whie he sings, though, not so much). I don't love Hopes & Fears, but I like it enough that I will probably buy their next album. They're touring now in the States! The Zutons and someone else are opening for them.

I'm assuming the Keane/Coldplay comparison is due to the focus on the piano on both artists' work. There is one song on Keane's album where the intro reminds me of Coldplay. But then the vocal blows away any comparison, IMO.

I absolutely love Keane. "Hopes & Fears" is one of my favourite albums of last year.
I can see the Keane/Coldplay comparisons, but for me, Keane is about a million miles ahead of Coldplay - who are unbelievably boring at the best of times.

Okay... so how long has this Keane album been out ? I JUST finally listened to the tracks online.. How AMAZING is this group !? I definitely see the Coldplay/Travis connection.... as it happens they are two of my favourites.... LOVE this! I am going to go buy it... Michael

Add me to the list of folks who love Keane! I played Hopes and Fears so much when I first purchased it that the album has kinda lost a bit of its original impact for me at the moment, but it still easily made it into my Top 10 albums of the year list. There isn't a single bad song on the record, though "Bedshaped" is my favorite followed by "This is the Last Time."

got the album for Christmas. Amazing CD, this group will be around for a while. This album was the best I have got for the past half of year second to the Killers.

My Hot AC radio station played "Somewhere Only We Know" for the first time today. Yay! It was so nice to hear it on the radio. Beautiful song. Hope it does well.

I got this album, and it's become one of my favorites. I'm also a fan of Travis and Coldplay. I would also recommend Snow Patrol's "Final Straw" if you like this genre of music.

Yay, just made plans to see Keane next month at the House of Blues in Cleveland. Actually talked my friend who has never heard of them into going. She's more interested in seeing the brand new HOB than the band though. But another friend from work will probably be coming with us too. Should be a fun night!
I checked out the link above with all the info on Keane. There are a few links that have video and/or audio of live performances. Pretty cool! I can't get the one link to work for me though. The one with the Amsterdam concert. Maybe something is blocking it on my computer or something. Can you get it to play?

I like Keane as well.
Singles 03 Somewhere Only We Know [02/28/04] 04 Everybody's Changing [05/15/04] 10 Bedshaped [08/28/04] 18 This Is The Last Time [12/04/04]
Hopes & Fears is the 2004's second best selling album in the UK; with over 1.5 million copies sold, behind the Scissor Sisters. They've sold over 3 million copies worldwide and recently hit a new peak position in the US, I believe #55 or something.
