I've followed Nickelback for a little while now, pretty much since Silver Side Up came out. While the album has a couple of great songs on it, over all the album bored me just a bit. The latest album in comparison really rocks from start to finish. I've had The State for a while and have been jamming out to it while working today, and it made me wonder, is their so far biggest success the tamest of their releases? I'm not counting Curb in this, maybe I should.
I also realized as much as people want to criticize this group, one could make an extremely energetic rocker compilation of this group. Good stuff on The State.

i happen to think the EXACT opposite, the album is one of the best of the last 2-3 years, not one song on there is worst the skip button, On ther other hand, their latest sounds far too commercialized. Just my opinion

I like both albums, but I like "The Long Road" a lot better. I think their is more radio-friendly material on the latest album. I don't have any of their earlier albums. IMO, "Silver Side Up" is a little more bland than "The Long Road"

I have all four of their cds that are currently in print (Curb, State, SSU, and TLR). Here's my opinions:
Curb - Kickass album, that shows Nickelback as more of a garage band than the mainstream band they are now. It's no wonder why the album did jack in sales. My least favorite of the albums, but it deserves honorable mention as an overall good cd.
The State - My personal favorite of all four of their cds. Not quite as glossy and catchy as their two recent albums, but that's what makes it better, imo.
Silver Side Up - The first Nickelback album that I bought. Every song is as good as the last, but, unless you listen to the cd repeatedly and know the songs well, they all end up sounding the same. Still a great album from start to finish.
The Long Road - My second favorite Nickelback cd. It's still commercialized (like SSI), but it's got some good straight forward rock songs on the cd, and three bonus tracks at the end is a big plus, also. It feels like the band put a lot more work into this album, a lot more than SSI, and it shows.
However, all of Nickelback's albums are great. You can listen to all of them from start to finish without skipping a single song. And that's why their one of my favorite bands.
