What if Christina had been given Baby One More Time and Britney got Genie In A Bottle. Do you think that would have made a difference in their careers I remember when i saw the video to "genie in a bottle" i thought "who is this Brintey wanna be" and I wasnt even a Britney fan at the time. i think Brintey would have been fine with either song as long as she came out first. Brintey always had the upper hand because she the original teen queen. But "baby one more time" is alot more infectious than "Genie in a bottle" and will always be rememebred as such. The first time i saw Britney, i knew she was headed to stardom with that video.

What if Toni Braxton recorded "Because You Loved Me" instead of Celine Dion? She was the rumored first choice for the song, but she felt it wasn't her style.

"Baby One More Time" is much catchier. If "Genie in a Bottle" was released first of the two, it is likely it might not have caught on.

Don't know if this should be included in this thread, but... Do you ever hear a song on the radio and for the first few notes of the song you can't identify the artist? You just recognize the song and you instantly get a reaction to it - whether you like it or hate it. Then you keep on listening and figure out who it is who's singing and remember the whole hype of the song, artist you may love or hate, etc. I feel that way when I hear Creed songs sometimes. When I hear the song I think "aw, I like this song" then I remember it's Creed and it goes downhill in my estimation. Then I think, you know if Pearl Jam, MB20, etc. were singing this exact same song right now I would love it. I guess it shows the power of image and how you can be totally turned off by it.

I really can't picture anyone other than Britney doing BOMT. If christina did release BOMT than Britneys career wouldn't be what it is now.

nah Xtina made Genie.. Britney couldnt have pulled it off cause Xtina actually gave it something special n it was less bubble gum pop than BOMT, plus Genie was a bigger hit in the US, so Xtina made the right choice..
Xtina was marketed on her voice, Britney on her image.. Xtina made her own path.. After "Wat a girl Wants" everyone new she had some pipes.. Also the original teen queen or w/e came in the late 80's.. in there was another teen girl who came out like a couple of months b4 britney.. I remember her name was Brooke or something but she flopped

What if Christina Milian had chosen "Play" as her debut single instead of "AM to PM"? Then maybe her debut album would have been released here

I still can't get over how RCA refused to sign Britney, and then had the nerve to try to turn Christina into Britney version 2.

I really believe everythin happens for a reason. She was signed to Jive because thats what was meant to be. If she had neevr recorded "hit me baby...." then who knows where she would be today.

There is no way Britney could have pulled off Genie. The only reason I even liked that song was because Christina nailed it vocally-perfect. I cant imagine many other people pulling it off. Its an ok song made great by just plain great vocals.

If Clay Aiken had sung Ryan Cabrera's "True" or Daniel Bedingfield's "If You're Not The One", they would've flopped. Apparently male pop ballads are only not radio-friendly when HE sings them...

Its an ok song made great by just plain great vocals. Agreed. the song is just BLAH. but her vocals really made it good. Same with"hit me baby..one more time" It was a great and cachy song but Brintey sold that song with her presence and star quality, and the video (a concept she came up with) that just blew people away. Chrisitna just doesnt have the natural star quality to pull of that song. Brintey's performance of it is just flawless from the vocals to video.

IMO "Baby One More Time" was an amazingly catchy song that could've been a hit for literally anyone. If TLC had taken it, Britney would've still had a career, but she would definitely have not become as huge as she did.

Yes the song was originally intended for Brtney and I can imagine her doing it well. you dont have to blast all over that song to sing it. I can imagine Britney doing it with more sass and sex apeal than Christina. Janet got offered the song after Britney but for some reason she couldnt do it. I dont think she turned it down because she didnt like it but it probably had more to do with scheduling conflicts and things like that. But Janet could have also added that extra sass and sex appeal. Her vocals just milk all over any track. Christina was 3rd choice. I heard that they asked Gwen Stefani before Christina. Christina was the fourth choice lol.

It would have been pretty good if Kylie Minogue did "Toxic." Kylie's voice could be really sweet and seductive on that song.
And Britney doing "Milkshake" could have worked. She could give it her signature "oh baby baby" sound.
And if Janet Jackson did "I'm A Slave 4U." That would have been hot! Janet can do it sexy without it sounding vulgar.

Genie was a bigger hit in the US but only because of more airplay, in the year end chart BOMT was #5 while Genie was #7. On Pop Radio, BOMT was #3 on the year end chart while Genie was #5 or #7. back in those days BB 100 was mostly by singles sales so Xtina went 2 #1 thanx 2 singles sales.. so it was a bigger hit.

Janet was the 2nd choice, Christina was the last resort.

I believe Mariah wrote "Hero" for Gloria Estefan to sing on some soundtrack. That all changed when Tommy Mottola heard the song, and made Mariah keep it for herself. Imagine what it would have been like if Gloria had sung it.
