This may be my favorite track from the whole album. Very infectious yet bursting with a lot of playful lyrical depth.
"Walk Away" had these qualities too, but the one thing that separates the tracks is "The Fallen" is bursting with a lot of that signature guitar-dance tempo rhythm that flooded their debut album, while "Walk Away" has a much more mature sound with a lot of acoustic elements and even potential mainstream appeal. "Walk Away" leans a bit more adult-alternative than "The Fallen", in simplest terms.
"The Fallen" is that single that will much more engage their Alternative base than would "Walk Away", though both would be met with a great deal of praise.
I believe they couldn't have made a better choice for the second single, and though we have yet to see Franz Ferdinand show stamina on charts beyond a first single in the U.S, this is their best bet at second single strength.
The main thing running against the band right now is simply that they sound too good for radio. Even though "Take Me Out" and "Do You Want To" have shown strong chart showings, it's primarily because they're sexy, fun-loving dance anthems one can so easily get caught up in. A track like "The Fallen" runs much deeper than those singles, and all because of the band's cool factor, I feel they're going to experience a similar fate to The White Stripes and show consistent limited chart strength.
My Prediction: #15
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

This is insanely catchy. I wasn't a real big fan of "Do You Want To?" but this makes up for it in a big way. I'm not sure where it will wind up on the charts though. Franz Ferdinand doesn't seem to be a household name at alternative yet.

On first listen I liked this. On second listen, the chorus jumped out like crazy. This is so easy to get into. It will at least do better than "This Fire."

I agree. I've been playing it a lot since buying the disc a little over a week ago. This is one of those very rare songs that I often want to go back and listen to again right away. Gonna take me forever to learn those lyrics, though. :(

I like it a lot more than "This Fire" and "Do You Want To". This is really catchy without being annoying.

This song blew me away. Look for another top 10 showing. I really hope radio doesn't reject this, given that Franz seem to still be unfairly seen as the "Take Me Out" band.
I've still only heard "Do You Want To" 3 times on my radio station which I listen to quite frequently, and haven't heard anything about their new material outside of Spin Magazine.

This is ok. I've listened to it a couple times, it hasn't really grown on me.
They need another song like Take Me Out.

Brilliant song as per usual. I actually hope that the radio doesn't play it and that they don't get more exposure on the Top 10 charts because that's reserved for crappy music. FF is too good for that. Plus mainstream always kills good music. That's why I never listen to the radio.

Well, I on the other hand was wondering what happened to this song about a week ago, when I decided to look up Mediabase and I saw a +8 bullet. I looked again, today, hoping that maybe spins were down that day, but then I saw this.
46 49 FRANZ FERDINAND The Fallen 267 284 -17 1.128
*AHEM* Excuse me, but what the hell is happening here?

*AHEM* Excuse me, but what the hell is happening here? Have you looked at the top 20 recently? This may be the worst funk the chart has been in since the glory days of Fred Durst.

Their songs aren't dominating the chart like they were in 2004 or 2005. I guess the buzz has worn off. New bands are chic now. I'm not a hater, I'm just telling it like it is. They are simply not getting as much airplay as they used to. As many album copies sold as their last one? I'll go with no on that one, but they'll come pretty close. Actually, they probably won't. But I digress.
