Yeah, yeah, I know, bad title. Couldn't think of anything better.
But I find it interesting that artists such as No Doubt, Sheryl Crow, and R. Kelly are releasing Greatest Hits compilations with new material, and then those new songs go on to become big hits themselves (good thing that the songs are already on the greatest hits set). No Doubt are about to take "It's My Life" Top 10, Sheryl Crow's remake of "TFCITD" is still climbing up the charts, and "Step In The Name Of Love" Remix was a huge hit for Kelly, and will probably go on to be one of the defining moments of his career.
What other greatest hits compilations with newly recorded material yielded even more big hits for the artists in question?

Janet Jackson's "Runaway" is the first that comes to mind.

"Justify My Love" from "Immaculate Collection". "I Still Believe" from "#1's". "Miss You" from "I Care 4 U". "Runaway" from "Design Of A Decade". "That's The Way It Is" from "All The Way... A Decade Of Song". "Scream" from "HIStory". "Changes" from 2Pac's "Greatest Hits".

Lenny Kravitz had the biggest hit of his career with "Again", the new (at the time) song from his greatest hits collection.

Bon Jovi's "Always" from Crossroads
Martina McBride had "Concrete Angel" and "Where Would You Be" from her GH album.
Alan Jackson's "Its Five O' Clock Somewhere" was from Greatest Hits, Vol. II

"Rescue Me" from Madonna's Immaculate Collection also went Top 10.
And "The Whole World" from Outkast's greatest hits was a hit for them as well.

Alan Jackson's "Its Five O' Clock Somewhere" was from Greatest Hits, Vol. II Also "Remember When". Lonestar had "My Front Porch Looking In" from their "From There To Here: Greatest Hits" album. Their cover of "Walking In Memphis" also hit the Top 10 on the Country Chart, and that was new on the Greatest Hits album.

Also, "You Are Not Alone" (and a few more songs that were international hits). At least "The Earth Song", "They Don't really care about us" and "Stranger in Moscow" in Spain.

Donna Summer may have been the first act to do this successfully. In 1979 she released "On The Radio: Greatest Hits, Volumes I & II" with two new tracks. "No More Tears" went to #1 and the title track made it to #5.
Darryl Hall and John Oates issued two new tracks on "Rock 'N Soul, Part 1" in 1983. "Say It Isn't So" and "Adult Education" both reached Billboard's Top 10.

"Again" by Lenny Kravitz and "Justify My Love" (which happened to be cowritten by Lenny Kravitz) were the last two that were #1 pop hits.
