At this website, they show the past singers fot the national antem for the past like 40 years. But for this year they have Alcia Keys singing America The Beautiful. America the beautiful is a good song but its no where as powerful as the national anthem and besides its a tradition to sing the national anthem b4 a major sportings event, especaill the superbowl. Do yall know why they are not doing it this year?

I'm pretty sure there will be someone singing "The Star Spangled Banner"... they just haven't announced the performer yet (not sure why).

I guess they're still trying to figure out which American Idol singer they want the most for it.

Thanks, Kiki. :)
I'm actually glad it won't be someone famous performing it. Seems like people get more caught up in the celebrity than the song itself.

Thanks, Kiki. :) I'm actually glad it won't be someone famous performing it. Seems like people get more caught up in the celebrity than the song itself. It's pretty much a given that a couple of days after any major sporting event, the letters to the editor page of the newspaper will have a bunch of hysterical denunciations of both the celebrity who sang the national anthem and the current state of popular music, regardless of how said celebrity's rendition of the national anthem sounded. It never ceases to amuse me how picky people can be about how the national anthem sounds if the person singing it is famous (particularly since I much prefer America The Beautiful to the SSB, both melodically and lyrically). At least if it's a military group, people will sound really stupid if they criticize the rendition.

It's probably a good thing a celebrity wont be singing the anthem. They even had kids sing at the NFC and AFC championships while last year Ruben and Leann Rhimes sung them

It looks like it will be a military choir. www.af.mil/news/story.asp?storyID=123009680Cadets to sing at Super Bowl XXXIX 1/25/2005 - U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (AFPN) -- Air Force Academy cadets will join fellow service academy cadets to sing the national anthem to kick off Super Bowl XXXIX. The 25-voice Cadet Chorale will join with cadets from the U.S. Naval Academy Glee Club, West Point Choir and U.S. Coast Guard Academy Choir to perform in Jacksonville, Fla., on Feb. 6. This joint choir will perform in tribute to World War II veterans, who will be honored at this event. Veterans from various units and organizations, including the Tuskegee Airmen, will be present. This is the first time in 30 years that all four service academies will be singing together. The last time was in 1973 for President Nixon's inauguration. The last time the Cadet Chorale sang at a Super Bowl was in 1972.
