Seeing that "Toxic" is flying up the charts right now, would you say that "Me Against The Music" was a good choice for the first single?
In other words, should it have been the first single? and why?
If no, what would have you released first?

On one hand, she could have released all the guaranteed hits like "Toxic" and "Touch Of My Hand" and had a streak of hits, but at the same time, "Me Against The Music" reminded everyone how capable of producing absolute garbage Britney was, so a great follow-up like "Toxic" looks even better than it really is.

Yes, because she had to milk the Madonna kiss as much as possible.

DREADFUL as the song is, a duet with Madonna could ONLY have been the first single... it was PURE hype.

I agree that she needed a hype-type of track for the first single, and the Madonna collaboration fit in perfectly to build interest. Then releasing "Toxic", as a song that appeals to a wider range, as a second single was the best move.

It was an awful first single, but had it been released as a second single or later, it would have done even worse than it has. I agree...it almost reached the Top 10 due to all the hype. Pathetic if you ask me.

It was a good at best first single, but the song burnt on me pretty quickly and then it became rather forgettable. I think "Toxic," will do the same thing. I give the song right now about a C+. The thing about Britney that I don't like, she feels the need to go to the extreme to get noticed. Especially in that "Toxic" video, where she comes across really slutty, sleazy, and rather undignified. (This is my opinion, so no one don't take offense to it) Christina Aguilera does the same thing. A pop diva like Beyonce can wear at times semi-revealing outfits and still come across pretty classy. That's why I will always like Beyonce way more than I will ever do Christina Aguilera or Britney Spears as an artist. I am not starting up an argument on these boards, btw. I'm just stating my opinion.

Yes, "Me Against The Music" should have been the first single. I can't see any other tracks from the album that would be a suitable first single... except for maybe "(I Got That) Boom Boom".

She's like a sober version of Diane Ross... minus the repressed, agressive lesbian tendencies. :o I am not starting up an argument on these boards, btw. I'm just stating my opinion.

I agree with others that she needed the hype of doing a single with Madonna.
Now that she has the attention she can release the better songs.

People used to think that Diane Ross was classy too. And now she's a drunken mess who goes around assaulting other women's bosoms.

Good point, I was going to say that "Toxic" should have been the first single, but if it had been, "Me Against The Music" would have flopped and In The Zone would have fallen down on the charts instead of improving like it did the past week. Anyway, Britney could put out a single that's any genre of music and it'll still get hype and attention, and if all else fails, she can still kiss christina. lo ;Dl

Beyonce does have class. That's something that Britney Spears and X-Tina could really use.

Well Christina has the talent to back it up, Britney doesn't. And so does Beyonce, I think she could play into the sexuality game a lot more if she wanted.
