I was thinking of buying one of Chante moores albums. i mistakingly thought that "Chantes got a man" and "straight up" were both from the same albums (i really only like those 2 songs from her) but to my surprise I found out they were from 2 different albums. "Chantes got a man" is from the "this moment is mine" album released in 1999 and "Straight up" is from the "exposed" album released in 1999. I remember the singles came out close to each other so I always thought they came from the same album.
I dont know much about Chante Moore but it appears that after "chante's got a man" became so successful they threw her with hit maker Jermaine Dupri once they realized nothin else on her prior album would be successful enough to follow up "chantes got man" so they tried to make her appeal to a younger audience and came up with her "Exposed" album and the single "straight up" only a year after her previous album.
For anyone who knows, is that pretty much the gist of what happened with her?

Exposed: I thought this album, as a whole, just wasn't strong at all. Extremely contrived and calculated! It was so not Chante. This Moment Is Mine: It was OK, but had its spotty moments. Chante is great, but her older stuff is her best, IMO. She will release the occasional great single every now and then ( Chante's Got A Man, Straight Up, Bitter), but nothing compares to old albums like Precious and Love Supreme. Those are timeless to me. If, say, Exposed and This Moment Is Mine are all that the casual Chante listener has heard, it kind of gives off the impression that she is just another run-of-the-mill R&B singer, when this is simply not the case. Chante's roots are definitely planted in jazzy-R&B. She used to make soothing, often-moody, and sometimes even jam-session music. She's also amazing live with a back-up band. I saw her in the mid 90s when she opened for a group I went to see (I think it was Mint Condition) and she was flawless. If you want the REAL Chante - definitely check these out. Read the reviews, too! Some of them are right on the money. I like Chante Moore.
"Exposed" came out in late 2000 for the record.
She and her husband (Kenny Lattimore) released a duets album in 2003.
Last I heard she was picked up by Zomba or Jive, and she is working on a solo album.

She and her husband (Kenny Lattimore) released a duets album in 2003. That was a very nice album. I enjoyed it.

First of all it is spelled Chante Moore. You forgot the "e".

I have "Exposed" because I loved "Straight Up". It's a decent album. Not fantastic, but if you found it going cheap I'd buy it.

I'd go for her greatest hits CD (20th Century Masters: Millennium Collection).
