The Grammys rarely did it. That's why it was such a big deal when Michael Jackson and Santana walked home with so many. Now it's like the usual. IMO those were the only people who deserved it in recent times. It really shouldn't be an every year thing that one artist takes all. If I wanted to see a Beyonce special I can watch MTV or rent their tour video for that.

I dont think yall understand. Yes Bee won 5, but it was minor awards. Yall act like she won album of the year.
CrazY In Love- 2 awards- best r&b song and best rap/sung collabo- well deserved
DIL- best female vocal performance- Also well deserved
The Closer I get to you- best performance by a duo or group- Bee and Luther did an awesome job with the song. Why shouldnt they have gotten the award.
DIl- contemporary album- Mary J and Anthony would have not gotten this. Even critics, who judged her album, said thar she would win this.
So yes, when you think 5, and think Lauryn Hill and Norah Jones, yall would say dang, but unlike Lauryn and Norah, she did not win any major categories (should have one record of the year).

still a GRAMMY is a GRAMMY no matter wat category... When they introduce an artist they dont say the grammy award winning artist who won best RnB best RnB vocals etc... They will just say their name n how many grammys they won..

Ive heard reviews across the board...from fans and critics...that the album was mediocre. Should a mediocre album get 5 grammys? (To be fair, it looks like 4 of the grammys were for songs and not the album...)

Beyonce deserevd 4 out of 5 of those awards for "crazy in love" "dangerously in love and "the closer i get to you." They shouldnt have said well she deserves them but we dont wanna give her too many in 1 night, thats just silly.

Who were the other nominees? I dont know, it must have been a HELL of a weak year in r&b if Crazy In Love deserved two grammys...as well as DIL. I even loved CIL, but it was mindless ear filler, not really quality to me. But hey, if the nominees list was really that weak...

Vocally "dangerously in love" was better than any song nominated. "crazy in love" was hands down the best r&b song of that year. It was the best rap/sung collaboration and "the closer i get to you" deserved to win as well. as far as best contemporary album goes, it was a toss up between Beyonce and Mary J. blige.
I will say she easily deserved 4 out of 5 wins.

Personally, I think the Grammys have been a joke for a very long time. Milli Vanilli, Baha Men...both winners at the Grammys. Right. Also, giving such a huge array of awards to Norah Jones and Beyonce is just overdoing it. I expect the same to happen with Usher this year. Oh well, it's not like I ever watch them

I can't remember the name of the group, but didn't the grammys award a group that turned out to be completely bogus, and had to withdrawl their grammy wins? It was early 90's... who were they?

I think there is definitely a political aspect to Grammy nominations/wins. Commercial success does help (but it's not going to help crap), but acts that aren't as huge do have a chance-provided that it seems that Grammy wins would lead to a big sales boost that the Grammys can take credit for and pat themselves on the back about.

Darn it, Kiki! You replied before I could re-do my entire post.
Every time I would try to modify it, for some reason it would bring me back to the 'Music News' page. It was very weird. I just deleted it.
But I agree with you, if your post was in response to mine. That's a very good point that they can help boost the sales of an artist who may not have sold as much, previously. India Arie is a good example. But she still should've WON atleast one. >:(

Oh yeah, when they gave Milli Vanilli the Best New Artist Grammy over Mariah Carey. That was just moronic. Did she (or anyone else) end up getting it once MV were outed and stripped of their award?

Mariah won Best New Artist (and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for Vision Of Love) the year after MV's win.

well Luthers V. song lost 2 DIL n "Beautiful" lost 2 Luther V. song Exactly wat does DIL have that "BEAUTIFUL" didnt have?? I though BEAUTIFUL was gonna get record of the year n all these other awards even though it barely got any nods, i was truly shocked.. DIL is just a love song, BEAUTIFUL meant a lot 2 many people but the GRAMMYS seem 2 have overlooked the deepness of the song because of Xtinas image.. How sad ??? >:(

Contemporary r&b album. If i'm not mistaken she lost to Ashanti. I think you're mistaken, because Aaliyah was released in the summer of 2001, and I believe it got nominations for the 2002 Grammys, which were before Ashanti released her debut.

if she would have shortened the album to about 12 or 13 tracks and left the filler off like "Soar" "Get mine, get yours", "cruz", and "Keep on Singin My song" and maybe even "the voice within" she could have won hands down. LOL, if "Cruz" is considered "filler" -- I'll take Christina's filler over 99.9% of everyone else's lead singles!

Half the songs he named are songs I love and still listen to today. Singing my Song KILLS me. (in a good way ) But, I am a Christina fan so it makes perfect sense to me that I would like Christina's album while other people may scream filler. Im sure they like artists that I would think are filler crazy.

As a causal Chrisitna listener I think i'm more objective. And Her album was very good and had extremely strong points, but the more tracks u put on an album the more....underwhelming it can be. If she would have kept it at 12 or 13 of the BEST tracks on "stripped" not only would she have won for "best pop vocal album" over Justin, she probably would have gotten a album of the year nomination. But those songs towards the end just become too boring and dull. They really take away the momentum of the album which is flawless for the first half but towards the end it just goes down hill.

The only songs I think could have been cut were Underappreciated, Make Over, and Soar. That would have made the album 13 songs+intro and interludes.

Justin got better reviews than Christina and their sales were similar. So Justin won. I'm glad you believe the Grammy committee can think for themselves in determining what's good music as opposed to relying on what a handful of critics and 12 year old girls think. I think that gives the Grammies SO much credibility because, you know, sales charts are THE authority on what's good music. Cuz everyone else likes it, therefore it MUST be good.
