As suggested by The Max because these 2 songs would be easier to compare. I say "Smooth" this song was huge and I still hear it on radio a lot today. This song made Rob Thomas even more popular and introduced Santana to a whole new generation of younger audiences. "Smooth" is a song that I think will be around for a very long time, both artists have also a very well established careers and are among some of the biggest hit makers ever. Unlike, "In Da Club" and 50 Cent who will probably just be some rapper who got shot 9 times with that song about it being your birthday, that's what people will be saying about him in 10-15 years.

They'll be singing both songs 10 years from now. Smooth will still be hot at the karaoke joints while In Da Club will be like It Takes 2 whenever it comes on at the clubs. Both have their place.

I think "Smooth" was bigger by a pretty fair margin.

"Smooth" because I hear it on the radio more today than I do "In Da Club" and "Smooth" is 4 years older.

"Smooth" was the overall bigger hit (and better hit).

Smooth. The karaoke comment reminded me of a funny story I read about a few years back. Kyle Cook from MB20 sang Smooth at a karaoke bar while on tour with the band a few years back. It came up on the screen as by Santana/Bob Thomas. LOL! Would love to have heard Kyle Cook's version.

Well, I think it's a little unnecessary to add to the growing landslide of a consensus here, but "Smooth".

"Smooth" by a landslide.
"Unwell" was certainly a hit and one that will be remembered, but in comparing "Unwell" and "Smooth", there's two important distinctions.
Awards and royalties.
"Smooth" could very well have its very own stock. Not only does it remain a radio staple, but the number of Grammy Awards it's won has sinewed its immortality as a classic rock hit. Rob Thomas is making hundreds of thousands off that song alone.
"In Da Club" is no doubt a hit that will be remembered also, but his song is failing to get recognized in the same way "Smooth" did.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Noah, are you comparing all three songs in that post? :)

Noah, are you comparing all three songs in that post? :) Yes, I felt it was necessary to compare "Unwell" and "Smooth" first, understanding their distinctions as far as airplay and accolades are concerned so a good comparison to "Smooth" and "In Da Club" could be made, given that I believed between "Unwell" and "In Da Club" the latter was more of a hit. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I say "Smooth", esp. when you consider the number of formats that play it: pop, AC, hot AC, alternative, rock...maybe even some urban ACs. These formats sans pop hold on to songs much longer. "In Da Club" was limited to pop, rhythmic and urban.
