At first I thought You Raise Me Up was a Clay Aiken song. I was almost positive it was. Groban himself looks like an American Idol finalist. lol.

Josh Groban is obviously the more credible musician/vocalist. However, Clay is cute and has some fun pop songs. **shrugs**

There's not enough difference between the two for me to award a " default" vote.

I do not know that much about him, but his fans do tell me he has had extensive training. Not saying Clay does not have a kickass voice, but more like comparing someone who has a phd to someone that just took a few high school courses. I was not commenting on raw talent or anything.

So he has more experience? That I'll agree with. However, with vocals it's all about hitting the notes and being pleasing to the ear, and I'm not sure I can agree that Josh Groban is clearly better than Clay in that area. Josh does have a better adult following however, which usually, not always, but usually is a good indicator on who is the more solid artist.

I prefer Clay. Josh has a beautiful voice, to be sure. But Clay is beginning to show that he can sing songs in a wider array of genres -- he can do the Groban-esque ballad, he can rock out on Prince's "When Doves Cry" and sing it really well, and he can sell the pop songs on his own album (they're far better live than they sound recorded).
I also think that, as technically gorgeous as Josh Groban's voice is, the emotion in his songs tends to come more from the supporting elements (the background instruments, the choir, etc.) than from his own singing. As far as live performances go, Clay has far more presence and command than Josh Groban.
But they both have great voices. I'm glad they're both doing so well.

I am not talking about personal preferences. I am talking about experience and training, which Josh clearly has much more of than Clay. Now who would I rather listen to? Depends on the song. I have both their cds and I prefer Josh a little bit, just because his music is a lot more solid than Clay's.
