I tune in and every day I hear yet another song by a group that sounds identical to Creed. When is radio going to play music that is a little more distinguishable? This is getting a little ridiculous isn't it?

I think this thread probably belongs in the opinion forum.

I'd scratch Nickelback and 3 Doors Down off that list. I don't think they sound like Creed at all.
It's really too bad, because I wish Creed didn't even sound like Creed

There are a lot of groups that have a similar sound, yes, but to say they all sound like Creed is to say that all rap acts sound like Jay-Z. It isn't true at all, but there are a lot of rap acts that have an overall similar sound.

They've been playing a lot of Creed on my station. I like their hit songs, but I think the group has become sort of a joke. Got really tired of their sound when I listened to their album. Did you see Saturday Night Live when Nick Lachey played Scott Stapp? They did a whole American Idol skit on real singers who can't sing. J-Lo, Britney and "that guy from Creed". LOL! He has a good voice, but I think their videos have contributed to their joke status, IMO.

Well, the lead singer from Seether sounds a lot like Scott. I recently listened to Broken feat. Amy Lee and the resemblance in their voices is uncanny. Maybe it's a Wind-up thing.

He sounds a little more like Kurt to me. As a matter of fact, I think there are more bands that try to sound like Nirvana than there are those that sound like Creed.

No. I've always had Creed as nothing more than a small part of a long list of bands who sound like Pearl Jam.

Does ANY band REALLY have there own sound? I doubt it. Every band is influenced by some other artist in history.

I agree, I don't know of any bands who have their own individual sound, it seems as if everything has been done before by the earlier bands that all of the current bands idolize.

No, I think too many bands like Creed sound just like Pearl Jam. Then again, you have to go back all the way to The Who, who truly revolutionized the Alternative style of rock and roll.

TRY to find ONE band or artist that is sound original. It'll be truly hard to do.

I agree with the fact that there are too many Creed-esque bands, which is annoying, b/c I'm really annoyed by Scott Stapp, he comes off too egotistical to me.
I agree there, that's what can make it interesting, seeing how one band/artist takes its influences to fuse its own music, then again sometimes its generic crap.

In terms of finding bands out there that are original, I have to list Evanescence here. The reason their album is selling so much is because the mainstream audience has never heard anything like them before. Maybe there are bands out there that sound like them, but I and the rest of the general public haven't heard them.

No artist is 100% original, but artists have been known to have their original sound. I don't think there's a specific band that Radiohead and A Perfect Circle truly sound like. Sure, you can pick an era of what the artists do, but as a whole, there's nothing that's derivative. Same with OutKast.
And Pearl Jam have been mentioned, and while not completely original, they have a lot of creative songs and nothing sounds directly like something their influences would do.
I know it's underground, but I've yet to hear an artist who truly sounds like VAST. While there are influences of The Cure, U2, Moby, and NIN, they all are kind of fused into a unique sound in most of the songs.

I'm not one to say who is truly creative or not, but I don't believe strong album sales necessarily develop from creativity. No doubt some albums (a.k.a "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below") have sold well and are also incredibly original, but a number of albums that were generally received as lackluster have sold lots also (a.k.a "Away From The Sun", "Up"). The fact is commerical appeal and marketing is still responsible for much of album sales. The Grammys help, no doubt about that, but, even the Grammys have increasingly been aligned with "the buzz". Every now and then there will be a Norah Jones, but she is still very well outnumbered by artists representing ongoing trends. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I've long thought there were a lot of bands that at least sometimes sounded a lot like Creed, which in turn, sounded a lot like bands before them, and in fact almost identical to a band that was popular when they became big: Days Of The New. Since then, Creed has become more repetitive and less interesting. Still I'd rather hear bands sound like this a lot more than bands sounding like Blink 182 (Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, Bowling For Soup, American Hi-Fi's, 9 Days, Fountains Of Wayne, etc.)
Some of these Creed sound-alikes are quite good, actually better than Creed since their first album. Seether is among my favorites. 3 Doors Down were more distinctive on their first album, but their latest sounds more like Creed.

Sincerely, Noah Eaton I agree with you, but I think the reason he was saying that was b/c of the band's female lead, and people saying its like Linkin Park with a girl, and Tori Amos leading, etc. I definetely think that Evanescence do have some creativity and are somewhat original, and that's what makes them intriguing to some people, at least that's what got my attention, that and the album overall sounded very good after sampling it. Actually I've heard both albums, and there's a sameness to both of them.

I'd just like to remind people again that Fountains of Wayne's first hit, "Radiation Vibe", came out almost a full year before "Dammit" by blink-182.
