I've heard their new album. It's a mix of uptempos and ballads. I wasn't blown away by every song, there are a fcouple that are extremely mediocre and I tend to skip over, but there are several standouts. Two ballads written and sung by Zac, the youngest brother, jumped right out at me. Broken Angel, an early Elton John sounding tune, and Lulla Belle, a curious little music box tune that reminded me so much of Paul McCartney's acoustic works. (note: Lulla Belle is a hidden track) He plays keyboards and drums on these two. He's quite a musician. I never would have guessed. Crazy Beautiful is sung solo by Taylor, it's an extremely catchy pop number with an amazing horn section and a killer piano intro. This song was on repeat for me-definitely a nice song that sticks in your brain like 911 during an emergency. When You're Gone, Penny and Me and Underneath sound very much like Crosby Stills and Nash, America or the Eagles, emotional tunes with sweet lyrics and beautiful three part harmonies they arranged themselves. The predictable harmonies tend to get a bit cliche, though. You might think you've heard it all before. But good vocal arrangements nevertheless.
The only problem I seem to have with this music is, it was recorded in 2001. That was three years ago and they have turned into much finer musicians since then. Granted, they left their record label and were finally able to put the album out "as is" on their own label, 3CG. But I thought for certain they would have recorded newer material since the split and put that on the album too. We'll have to settle with older material.
