Could Hoobastank have the first single that is non-rhythmic/urban to make #1 on the Billboard Hot 100? Currently "The Reason" is doing very well on 5 formats, almost in the top 10 on all 5 of them. It's already done on Alternative where it spent a few weeks at #1, does anyone know how many?? The song currently is at.... Rock: #14, +14. Active Rock: #10, +15. Alternative: #2, -86. Hot AC: #9, +383. Pop: #9, +789. Low bullets on Rock & Active Rock aren't a huge deal, I think the song will probably make the top 10 on Rock. Although the Rock formats have pretty low audiences, if all 3 of the formats keep the song high on their charts that would result in an audience of around 25. Hot AC is around 30, and Pop can be as high as 80. That's around 135 million, I'm not sure what the normal #1 is but as long as Pop isn't playing the #1 song too much then there a little hope to get a #1 rock song for once since... I don't know, did "How You Remind Me" make #1? I have a feeling that Usher's "Burn" will keep Hoobastank from reaching #1, but I still think they will make at least #4.

"How You Remind Me" hit #1 but only because it was commercially released.

Though it's a good song, I don't see "The Reason" topping the Hot 100. Top 10 sure, but there's an enormous difference between even #5 and #1 as far as audience goes.
As Matt said, HYRM had a commercial release in addition to its massive airplay. If "In The End" couldn't reach #1 based on airplay, there's no way "The Reason" will.

True and I don't mean to get off subject but Warner Bros. could've had a retail single out in time for "ITE" to hit #1. They'll probably never make Top 5 on the Hot 100 considering how messed up the chart has become recently.
