What's your favorite Alicia Keys track and what direction do you think she should take on her next album?
There are a few that still think that she's a bit overrated so what can she do with her next album that could really break her through and out of that overrated mode?
I personally don't think that she's overrated, especially with everybody winning grammy's now, but I don't think that she's fully proven herself to her capacity yet.
Need some opinions.

Alicia's biggest problem is she's capable of making a few tremendously incredible songs on each album and then just tacks on ten tracks of filler.
My favorite Alicia song is "Troubles".

Alicia showed us all that she had an extraordinary amount of talent w/ Songs In A Minor, and I don't think she did herself justice w/ The Diary Of Alicia Keys. Personally I would like to see her head off into a more Jazz/Blues approach for her third album. She's not overrated, but she needs to prove it to the naysayers.

I would love to hear her go into a more jazz/blues direction but I also want to hear her do something with a more classical influence.

One thing I hate is when Alicia does hip-hop inspired tracks. I know a lot of people love "Heartburn," "Karma," "Girlfriend," etc. but I just don't think that's where her heart is. They don't sound nearly as inspired as the slow jams.

I happen to think that she stands out on tracks like Karma, Girlfriend, Jane Doe, Harlem's Nocturnal and etc. Those are really the only tracks that set her apart. I think that a bit of her problem is that she's influenced by too many different genre's of music and she tries to incorporate all of those sounds into her music. I think that she does it well but it doesn't really give her a chance to grow in one particular area.

How do they set her apart? They set themselves apart, but hip-hop is what's huge right now. It doesn't set Alicia apart.

I think that she sounds the most distinguished on them for some reason, especially Karma and Harlems Nocturnal. I like her best when she makes those types of songs but I'm ready for her to get out of the soul/funk influence stuff, although that's the music that fits with her voice.

I'd say that's an extremely accurate description of her first album, but not so much of her second album. I counted more tracks on ther second album that I liked than on the first album. My favorite non-single from Alicia is Karma.

To me, the second album is light years ahead of the first album. The first album had a few great songs and then a ton of filler. The second album, to me, is a lot stronger. I only really count one or two fillers.

Again what direction do you guys think that she should take her third album in?

I dont know if it matters honestly. Just keep on making amazing music. I cant see her varying far from the Diary sound. Put out solid albums like her second album and she will be fine.

i think you're way off on "Karma" Don't tell me that my opinion is off. I already warned people here about saying that someone's opinion is wrong.

Its funny that gets a warning and some of the other stuff that happens doesnt lol.
I think Karma is one of the best on her new cd, though she is more captivating during her slower songs.

I like the thought you said earlier w/ a classical influence, it'd be interesting, do you mean along the lines of the great composers such as Mozart, Beethoven, etc.?

So Alicia should go classical? ??? I was agreeing w/ TZT when he/she said that they'd like to hear Alicia do a more Classical-music inspired album. She shouldn't go Classical completely for her genre, but a more traditional album like that would be cool.

Yeah that's what they bigged her up on, being classically trained, so I want to hear her put more of that into her music. She still hasn't really proven her piano skills so I want her to mix some classical in with some RnB or jazz. Not sure if she can pull it off but that would be hot. She's a really good artist but hse still has a lot of growing to do.

Obviously the talent is there. I hate "Fallin'" with a passion but I can see why it was critically acclaimed. "A Woman's Worth," on the other hand, was just typical generic R&B fare and to see someone like her doing that just seems kind of odd. She's the only artist who I've given most of her songs D's or less that I still don't mind when I hear a new song from. I'd love to see her do more piano stuff. It would be especially cool to see her do jazzy piano stuff. I'm hesitant to want her to do blues because it might end up sounding like AWW-type crap. (I'm not saying AWW is all that bluesy, but if she tried bluesy, I'm afraid that's what it would sound like.)

Yeah I want to hear more of that piano. Her music isn't really commercial but I wonder if Clive is big on record sales with her? I don't know what their expectations are for TDOAK but if it doesn't do what they planned I hope they don't make her try a more commercial sound. It's all about money these days and hopefully that doesn't prevent her from really getting into what she wants and exploring. A jazz album sounds nice but will she be able to do it is the question.

I too like her hip-hop inspired songs, just as long as they don't run throughout the album. At least she didn't put "Streets Of New York" on The Diary Of Alicia Keys. I agree that she should go for more piano sound, since that's what's she's known for.

Her album sales are very good, TDOAK is currently certified 2X Platinum, but I think its sold closer if not over 3 million copies. I doubt that that amount would worry Clive enough to interfere w/ Alicia's music.

I doubt that that amount would worry Clive enough to interfere w/ Alicia's music. I think that it's currently at 2.6mil. That's very good but SIAM was really successful with sales. Hopefully they only planned like 3mil-3.5mil for TDOAK and hopefully that's enough for her to keep growing as an artist without getting pressured about sales and going more commercial.

I don't like ghetto Alicia. Like the dancing she did in "Gangsta Lovin'." I wasn't convinced at all.
"Songs In A Minor" was a really good album. I still haven't gotten "Diary," but I'm expecting it to be just as good, since I love "You Don't Know My Name," "If I Ain't Got You," and "If I Was Your Woman."

Diary is a pretty solid album but I want her to go into a new direction. She has a bit of everything on that album but if she makes an album with just on theme or genre then I think I'll like it more. She sounds good on tracks like "Nobody Not Really" so maybe something like that would be good for her next one. A little jazz mixed with some classical piano stuff.
