How often does everyone here just download songs without paying? And does anyone here have programs like Kazaa, Limewire, Ares, etc?

I haven't used a p2p program since 2003. I prefer downloading legally on Walmart.com and iTunes.

Not nearly as much since iTunes came along. If I can't afford .99 cents for a song I like, I don't really deserve to listen to it.

Rarely. I download music to determine if it's worth my money. If I like it, I always buy the album.

Good answer.Β Heck, it's only a buck.Β I've never illegally downloaded a song, but never legally either.Β It's on my list of things to get into this year.Β Gotta figure it all out and just don't have the time to wrap my brain around it.Β

I do sometimes. But I try not to.
Like with the Mariah Carey "It's Like That". Someone posted a radio recording of it when it first came out. Of course I would get the legal one when it comes out. The quality was just good enough to hear the song. I already got a couple different promos of it and the mp3 on iTunes.
Anyways, I try to keep it to a minimum.

Was there a topic on how often do you legally download songs? I download illegally to a minimum but I used to be more fierce at. Maybe someday I'll go back to that.

I do it all the time. I only really do it though if I only want the one song, I don't download whole albums and stuff.

The only cd's I buy are blank cd's to burn copies of the cd's I illegally download. The last album I bought was "Stripped" the first day it was released, so it's been well over two years.
You get it for free, and you get it two weeks before it hits the stores.
I'm a guilt free Limeware/Ares user!

I do it all the time, But only singles. I don't have the money to buy singles and albums. If i wasn't able to hear the song i wouldn't want the album. So i don't care if i get in trouble, because it's not like i don't support the artist. The only time i ever download albums is if they are japanese because $30 is alot for an album i cant understand. I also downloaded Myas last album but I never listened to it. I also downloaded Christina Milians 1st album but it wasn't released here.

Ok guys, I'll be honest here....I do it a lot. Why am I one of the only ones admitting this?Β ;) You didn't. I admit it too. I buy albums from artists I like though. My problem with iTunes is my Dad pays my credit card bill, and I don't think he'd continue to do so if I charged about $100 worth of DLs each month. Hey, I'm being honest at least. Anyway, I don't feel guilty because I still buy albums that I'd buy otherwise. I DL songs people tell me to try out, I wouldn't pay for something if I wasn't even sure if I'd like it. I also DL Italian music that's not even on sale anywhere.

I pretty much only download radio singles, album cuts from CD's of which I own a copy, and authorized tracks from artists' websites. And I don't distribute anything. If the Riaa wants to call that illegal, fuck 'em. Although I have a feeling that if everyone downloaded songs to exactly that extent, there would be very little controversy over this issue.

I d/l all the time off P2P, best one right now in Ares. Funny enough, even if I wanted to d/l from ITunes, I can't cuz I tried once, and they say I'm "out of the country", although technically I am so poo on the RIAA. ...If the Riaa wants to call that illegal, fu ck 'em..... "......you said fu ck" - Johanthan Lipnicki, Jerry Maguire

I used to DL songs all of the time, but have since, mainly stopped. Now if I want a song, friends of mine have tons of them, and I'm able to DL them other ways.
I still think the main reasons people don't buy music as much as DL it, is because there are too many artists out there, who have only 1-2 good songs worth having on an album, and the rest is junk or "filler" songs, that aren't great at all.

It doesn't really matter if you download singles, or just the one song really. An artist doesn't make money from singles sales in the UK. In fact, putting out a single makes no profit at all, it makes a loss. So if you're only downloading a single, it's only the record companies losing out.
