This is suprisingly good. After his years of weirdness and out-there music, this is solid and coherent.
The title track is perfectly funky and has seriously grown on me. "A Million Days" and "Cinnamon Girl" are as good as anything he's ever done. On the slow jam side, there's good ballad, "Call My Name" and laid back R&B of "What Do U Want Me 2 Do"
It's great to see him re-focused and I hope he can get some commercial success with this.

Looking at reviews today, they're virtually unanimously positive. If this can get a decent profile, don't be surprised if it gets some Grammy recognition next year. They love a comeback.

Cool, I'll have to go pick it up. For some reason I don't remember that one registering when I checked all the upcoming albums a few weeks ago.

Have heard a lot of positive buzz about it. And I saw "Prince or Bust" painted on a car's rear window the other day. Prince was just here in concert. Someone was on a road trip! Aren't they fun! Haven't heard how the concert was yet, though.

Agreed! It wouldn't be quite fair to say that Prince was playing it safe, but this may some of his best music in nearly 20 years.

I didn't really mind the "weird" Prince albums. I like everything on "Musicology" except for "Musicology," "Illusion, Coma, Pimp & Circumstance," "Life O The Party," and "What Do U Want Me 2 Do". The last one sounds like it would be great with some elements removed.
The only thing that makes me uncomfortable is that there are some great pop songs on here that would have been Top 5 hits 20 years ago.... and now they'd completely bomb. "A Million Days" and "Cinammon Girl" would be great singles but I don't think anyone would play them. His only hope is for Urban and Urban AC. I have a feeling my three least favorites are among the most potential singles. A lot of these sound like major pop hits from the late 80's. Unless Columbia goes on a payola spree, I can't see pop playing Prince.
Overall, it's a good album. I was never one who really got annoyed by albums like "The Rainbow Children" though. So it's kind of hard for me to say "well this is his best album since..." because this is way more commercial than some of his recent albums. All I will say though is that I think some critics are a little too excited about a commercial return for Prince because no way is this up there with his best. It sounds like an updated "Diamonds And Pearls" to me.

Most people, myself included, didn't become Prince fans to hear him doing the kind of stuff he's done the last decade. That's why we haven't bought it. To hear that he's still capable of making great mainstream music is a welcome relief.

Maybe you took my post the wrong way. I'm not saying I don't like him mainstream. I'm just saying I don't really care what he does because he always does quality music as far as I care. I'm just saying that I've seen some critics hailing this as one of his best albums ever and basically all of his 80's albums rank over this.
