I think Christina has the ability to realy cross into Urban. alot of her ballads on "stripped" were not the typical pop ballads. Many of them had a r&b/soul feel to them. Especially "impossible" which I believe Alicia Keys wrote or produced or something. But I think she has the potential to crossover into urban the way Mariah Carey did. Mariah was a pop artist but eventally crossed more into Urban. Christina has the vocals and the ability to make a splash into that format with her ballads. Those types of piano ballas seem to be making a comeback and I wish she would have released one of the urban sounding ones to the urban format. "loving me for me" sounds similar to a Erykah Badu song called "other side of the game" "impossible" sounds like an A. Keys song. I think she could do it if they pushed her at that format.
What do you think?

Mariah was getting urban love from the very beginning of her career though.
I don't see it happening for Christina.

Also I noticed BET Uncut played "dirty" and Christina was on 106 and Park for "cant hold us down."
I think SOME of her music could easily be considered Urban. Some of it is definately pop but the ballads and songs like "dirty" and "can thold us down" could get some love from Urban if her label pushed it.

Mariah was getting urban love from the very beginning of her career though. Exactly. Mariah's first two singles topped the urban chart. Mariah never had to cross over. Her must just became more hip-hop focused.

I think she can get some love from Urban, but I don't expect the format to really embrace her. Yes some of her music may have some urban influence, but I just don't think Urban is going to embrace Christina. "Lady Marmalade," which has definite urban appeal failed to make the top 20 on the format. It was a top 40 hit on Urban but it didn't do all that much. She got some love with this track, but Mya and Lil' Kim were also on it. I'm sure sopme urban stations will spin some of her more urban-sounding songs in the future, but I never expect to see her in the top 10 on Urban unless she is a feautred artist in a hip-hop single.

Yea. I am hoping the song she is featured on with Nelly on his upcoming album will get her some appeal to the format.

I think Christina's lack of success on Urban radio has more to do with her not courting that format than it does her not fitting the format.
I think "Impossible" could have easily been a Urban hit.

If she "doesn't want to", then the point's all moot. Personally, that sounds like the same tired excuse British bands use to explain why no one in American knows who they are.
I say "no" as the lead artist and "perhaps" as a featured artist on someone hugely popular at the moment. That seems like the obvious (and only) answer.

I agree. I think i her an dher label wanted to get her to cross over into urban they could have easily used payola to get the song played on some rhythmic leaning urban stations and osm eof the really big urban stations that lead the format. Money talks, bottom line. But it seems they are not interested in going that route...i just wish there was more diversity in the urban format.

Well if it gets released then yes, she could possibly break into the urban charts as soon as this year.

I don't think so. Urban fans wouldn't want to hear this after songs like Eminem,G-Unit and J-Kwon. Her songs are too poppy for the format.

Songs like "impossible" "lovin me for me" and "walk away" are definately not too "poppy" for the format. Those songs are less "poppy" than most Beyonce songs and Christina worked with Alicia Keyes for "impossible" so its far from poppy.

I think the best she could probably ever do is get Top Ten on Rhythmic and top 40 on Urban.

If Justin Timberlake can break into urban, I don't see why Christina Aguilera can't. The reason why pop seems to be her strongest format is because her music is just all over the place. She can sing practically any style of music, but given the niche of urban, diversifying her music will not make the programmers at the format wanna play her songs even though some of them are straight up hip hop (Dirrty).
If she sticks to the soulful ballads route for the next album, urban will not touch her. But at least she has four formats at her helm (pop being her strongest, followed by AC, Rhythmic and Hot AC). I just hope that she would not release a one-format chart single again like Fighter cos that really diminishes her chart placement on BB100.
