What are some songs about how hard it is to be a famous figure? With fame, comes a price! These are some I can think of:
Angela Via, "Real Girl" - This line gets my eyes all misty: "5'9", 110, 36-24-the list doesn't end, change this, change that just to fit in." Angela even states that you might see her smiling on TV (such as her guest appearance on "The Bold and The Beautiful") but you don't see her crying behind the scenes. Rumors have it this was Angela's rebuttal to Atlantic Records' demands to change her image drastically.
Craig David, "Walking Away" The Corrs, "Queen of Hollywood" Britney Spears, "Lucky" Chantal Kreviazuk, "Julia" Spice Girls, "Stop" LeAnn Rimes, "Wound Up"

I HATE songs like this... When artists do them it's usually a sign that their careers are about to go to shit, cos they've lost touch with the real world.
Stereophonics 'Mr Writer'
Billie Piper 'Misfocussing'
Actually, I like that Billie song. but STILL >:(

I hate songs like this too. While we know there are problems and not everything is hunky dory on the celebrity side, they should understand how fortunate they are too. Not too many people can identify with someone who makes millions singing about how tough things are as a celebrity. No matter how rough it is, somebody always has it rougher than you. Those that focus on thier own problems show how egocentric they are and further fuel the jealousy against them.

Yeah, it's like they're ungreatful for what they have but I think when you get in the industry, you should be aware of the lack of privacy that you may experience.
I know for Chantal's song in the list, it's not about her but about her observation of Julia Roberts and how her relationships are probably not based on love but on her own fame.

It all depends and there's always exceptions.
If it comes off as condesending, then yeah, shame on the artist, etc...
But what if there's a different motivation? Maybe some message with society involved as well? Maybe its just meant to tell a story? A rant at a particular person? You don't really know everything behind a song unless you are that person.
The example that I can think of off hand is Manic Street Preachers - Kevin Carter.
That however is an awesome song.

Freedom by George Michael, the second titled track, not the one credited to Wham. George, if you don't want fans to be a part of your life, don't release music and crawl under a rock.

Billie Piper 'Misfocussing' Actually, I like that Billie song. but STILL >:( I love that song too! It's so depressing and soooo personal. "I can take the misquotes and lies, barb wired bouquets, but you I never thought would stoop so low." I remember reading the stories about how jealous people sent her death threats when she was 16 because she dated Rich from 5ive. "Misfocusing" sounds so personal, I thought Billie had a hand in writing it! Very Brandy-"My most personal album to date yet I only co-wrote one song"-"Afrodisiac"-like!

"Overprotected" - Britney Spears "In My Business" - Whitney Houston featuring Missy Elliott "All For You" - Janet Jackson (well, it kind of applies... it goes into how potential suitors can be intimidated by her celebrity status)
"Leave Me Alone" - Michael Jackson HAHA

I actually LOVE that too. But it's ridiculous how she didn't even WRITE the damn thing. The Clocks sample is marvellous.

I remember from Storytellers that Rob Thomas of MB20 said that their song Mad Season was about all the craziness of their celebrity and wondering what kind of person it was making him.
But generally I agree that I don't like songs like these cuz I can't relate whatsoever.

George, if you don't want fans to be a part of your life, don't release music and crawl under a rock. Exactly. If you're big enough a celebrity to be harassed by the media, then you'd also be rich enough to move away LA? I find these songs very insincere to say the least.

Anything by Three Doors Down. Although I love these guys I am looking for a positive song about SOMETHING!!! Also Celebrity by Brad Paisley even though it is poking fun.

One of the earliest ones was Rick Nelson's "Teen Age Idol".
One of the best was "Turn The Page" by Bob Seeger. I love that song!

This never hit radio, but a group called Colony out of St. Louis had one of the best songs IMO about celebrity called "Who I Wanted To Be" with the line "And I'm becoming exactly the opposite of who I wanted to be"

One of the best was "Turn The Page" by Bob Seeger. I love that song! That is a great song. Another classic rock song with this subject is Bad Company's "Shooting Star".
