There has been a lot of talk about P. Diddy bringing back his record label to the front of the hip-hop scene in a big way. Most of the talk came out of P. Diddy's own mouth, but 2004 seemed like a very promising year for him and many said if it was going to happen, 2004 would be the year.
The past few years haven't exactly been great for the label, save for the 2002 success of the "I Need A Girl" songs. But he lost 112 (who flopped anyway), negotiations to bring Foxy Brown to the label fell through (she went on to call Diddy a difficult, controlling maniac) and Da Band and Loon ended up being complete jokes.
2004 he a lot of potential mainly due to 2 acts: Mase and Mario Winans. Both of these acts could've been huge this year, but despite having one of the year's biggest hits, Mario will remain a one-hit wonder (from this album anyway) and Mase's comeback, while not a complete flop, is receiving only a lukewarm reception. He hasn't even gone Top 10 at Urban or Rhythmic with either of his 2 singles, but at least he seems to be around still and didn't just fade off as quickly as he came back.
So will Diddy ever revitalize Bad Boy? I don't think he will... he's to preoccupied with other projects like acting, his clothes line, restaurant, his Vote or Die campaign, running marathons, etc. If Bad Boy is going to succeed, he needs to give it his full attention and committment. I think if he didn't promote Mase and Mario Winans half ass, they'd both be bigger stories in the music world this year.

Who is even left on the label? Mario Winans and Mase who are totally B, if not C-list, and then a bunch of no-names. Oh yeah, New Edition.

Oh yeah, New Edition. Yeah, he needs to stop trying to revitalize old acts that he never had a stake in anyway. At least Total was his group and its members are not middle-aged yet.... but New Edition?

I agree, except that if you talk to any serious hip-hop fan, 8Ball & MJG are too far from being B or C-list, let alone no-names. ;) In fact, they were one of the first Dirty South acts to come along, at a time when that term didn't even exist. As for Bad Boy's future, he will definitely have to dedicate himself 100%, because I don't see a noted control freak like him put some kind of right-hand man in charge of things.

"8Ball & MJGs" That album was hot! I'm not sure if they are group or what but that album is definately a good dirty south album.
Diddy can do whatever he wants with Bad Boy but people seem to forget that....he doesnt have to! lol He is filthy rich and has his hands in so many projects he is still making tons of $$$ without a very active label. It seems like he doesnt have the desire he once had to really break new acts into the Urban scene. All he really has to do is be on a few featured tracks like he has been doing, and do a remix here and there to stay relevant in the music industry. When he gets the impulse to make Badboy the label he used to be, i'm sure he will do so.
He has alot of projects coming up. Cherrie Dennis, Total, The next girl group for Making the Band, Heavy D (not as if he matters). And Mase and Mario Winans still make somepoints for the label. Not HUGE successes but still something.

And a girl group that had a few hits and was washed up 5 years ago.

This is what he gets for not focusing on Dream and letting go of them.

What happenned to Elliot Ness and Babs? Do they still have records coming out? I think they could be big, they are very talented. P Diddy has a CD coming out in 2005, it's his final album. I doubt it'll be any good though, but who knows. He's not a good rapper, in my opinion. He's just a good businessman I think he's dwelling too much on the past. Re-recording and re-releasing "Victory", releasing a DVD of the history of Bad Boy and the 10-year anniversary greatest hits CD. He really needs to start focusing on the present and the future. I think he's a genius.. and if he really tries, he could make more big hits... but he's too busy working on other stuff, like the TV shows. (as Jersey Boy said) I want Bad Boy to continue succeding. It's a good label

lmao Not as if Heavy D matters but the next Making Da Band people do and some girl I've never even heard of do. And a girl group that had a few hits and was washed up 5 years ago. Making the band definately created alot of hype for diddy, even if it didnt do much for the group. But they didnt make good music so a #1 show can only do so much. But a female girl group will definately sell for him, especially if they have drama. Cherie Dennis is basically a chick working with Darkchild for her solo debut now. She has been doin projects with diddy for a few years now but he never bought her out until now. Total was one of his first acts to help make Bad Boy a success back in the day. So i dont know whats funny bout that. They broke up and simply stopped recording. I dont know how that makes them washed up? Washed up is when u keep releasing album after album, and still flop no matter how psycho your fans are.
