The 2nd single from A Beautiful Lie goes for adds this February. I think the fans voted for this one to be the single.
I would've voted for either this or the title track so I'm pleased with this decision.

I think that this song and the title track were already the two that were up for voting. Having said that, I love this song. Other than The Battle of One, this is the best song on the album.

Should have been ready to go with this one by now. Once "Attack" fell to recurrent, it actually starting tumbling down in plays. Didn't need for there to be so much downtime in between.
Jared's been polling the fans that hang out with them after shows as to what should be the next single, and "The Kill" has been the most popular vote, from what I've heard. I don't know if Virgin actually placed any value in those polls, but I'm sure they won't hesitate to point out that, coincidentally, it's what the fans wanted to be the next single.

Yes, Jared should have decided by early fall at the latest. I can understand him polling his fans considering most of their songs do sound borderline radio-friendly without any particular standout. Also the fact that they've never experienced this much success in the mainstream. They should have had an adds date decided by at least September, considering all those summer shows they did with Chevelle & Taproot.
Either way, I'm pulling for this one to dent the Top 40. I think what sets this band apart from their contemporaries is Jared's voice not necessarily sounding grungy-rock or angst-ridden, and the certain "spaciness" of their sound. Overall, this album doesn't appeal to me as much as their last but if they can earn a little more mainstream success then why not? Plus their last one was excellent nonetheless.

Their first album sounds too much like Incubus, or as I like to label it, "alien music". That's probably why I'm having a hard time getting into it.

I havent heard every song on the new album, but judging from the 6 or 7 that ive heard, i think their 1st album is better.

Having heard both albums, I think the first was more experimental and this new one is more commercially oriented, and I only use those terms because I can't think of a better word to describe it. That's not a knock against the new album either. I think the first album was more interesting and progressive musically, but at the same time, I find the new album to be more memorable. I certainly find myself going back to Attack or A Beautiful Lie or From Yesterday a lot more than anything from the first album. I'm not quite sure why that is, but I will do further research on it and will provide my full analysis sometime in 2017.

[fists in the air] Sweet! This is my favorite song off the album. (The title track would be next. I had no idea these were the fan faves.)

A single cover: Awesome. And it appears as though the song will now be called "The Kill [Bury Me]".

The video is incredible, and creepy too. There was this weird homoerotic scene going on with two Jared Leto's. and something really disturbing with a guy dressed as a teddy bear. and I'm glad to see this finally make the Top 20. www.youtube.com/watch?v=csQgDF802K8

One of those Jared Leto's is actually a fan who happens to look like Jared. They found him during their show in Toledo, which I attended, and not much effort was given (or needed) in finding a double to play that part.
The video is inspired by Stephen King's "The Shining", and obviously the teddy bear part is a reference. I haven't seen that film though, so most of the references to it surely went straight over my head.
Of course I'd love for this to hit the top 20, but it's looking like it may have to hold off "MakeDamnSure" for that spot. The song really caught a break with all the songs going recurrent this week, although it had already faced a bad break with all the Tool, RHCP, Pearl Jam, and AFI singles, among a few others, and was able to survive them.

I'm just amazed it got as high as it did, as quickly as it did, before it leveled off. I never expected this to be outpeaking "Attack" for sure.
It's not as good as "Attack," but that's only because that song sets the bar ridiculously high. What's even better is that this is the first time I'm getting to hear one of their songs somewhat regularly while it's a current. As a result of laziness, I'm planning on going on a CD binge tomorrow, and I guess if I see ABL on the cheap, I might pick it up.

They found him during their show in Toledo, which I attended, and not much effort was given (or needed) in finding a double to play that part. You mean just from the back shots, right? Man, I've seen the film at least 5 times, so I was floored by the homage from a band I really like with my favorite song of theirs. (Slipknot's "Spit It Out" video also was heavily inspired by The Shining, now that I think about it. If you haven't seen the movie and want to see it and be surprised by where the video material comes from, skip this next paragraph. . . . The skateboarding replicates the boy on his big wheel, throwing the ball against the wall was from the movie, the warning not to go into a certain room (the one with the bathing lady), the twin ladies (only in the movie they were girls), drinking at the bar (only it wasn't with himself), the guy in the bear suit fellating a man (not the actual voyeur, in the movie), the girl from the tub (not shower; in the movie, she turns into a cackling old hag), the pages upon pages of "This is who I really am" typed over and over ("All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy"). Eh, that's the bulk of it, if not all of it. . . . The video gave me chills as I watched it, because of how much The Shining references enhanced the song for me.

they sounded awesome on the Jimmy Kimmel show a few weeks ago. he's actually a good singer live. I didn't know how he would sound live because the music is layered. however he proved me wrong

23 18 30 SECONDS TO MARS The Kill 941 774 167 4.219Has to be due in part to the sudden presence of the video on the MTV channels, which is the first time I've ever seen one of their videos on TV (or ever, for that matter). Eh, I guess it's better to jump on the bandwagon now than later; a statement I'm sure I'll be repeating in two months when KNDD adds it.

Oh wow, look at it fly! I assumed it made it into the Top 20 this week with a slight regain of its bullet, and would fall back out next week. I was wondering if (hoping that) the video, as great as at least I think it is, would give it any kind of boost. Even if this is payola, it is most definitely welcome, like the suspicion around "Wings of a Butterfly"-'s surge into the Top 20.

I'm assuming no one here even bothered to click on the link or else they would've been foced to watch Cartel's music video.

Up to #11 in realtime now and looks to make the top 10 or even #9 by the end of the week if the pace remains the same.
I just looked at the predictions thread from a few months ago and nobody predicted any higher than #24 for this song, and most below #30. I would have probably picked around #30 for this song as well. It's amazing and I never thought they'd make the top 10, ever. With its longevity and release timing it may be looking at a top 20 for all of 2006.

Single #3 will be huge. It think it will either be the title track or "From Yesterday". I'm hoping for the latter.

Yeah, Virgin really seems intent on buying this band some hits, which I'm cool with because they deserve them. I think "A Beautiful Lie" is gonna be the third single but we'll see. I'd say it'd be awesome to see "Battle Of One" get a released, being one of the coolest 'bonus' tracks ever.

I'd put money on the title track being the next single.
Glad to see them finally getting some well-deserved success, thus forcing critics who find them "overwrought" or are dismissive because "an actor is trying to find success in a rock & roll band" to acknowledge 30STM's success and deal with it.

The third single has officially been narrowed down to "A Beautiful Lie", "The Fantasy", and "From Yesterday". Once again the audience who hung around after the show Friday night was polled and the results were just about dead even for each one. I could tell by Jared's analysis that they want "The Fantasy" to be the single, mainly because it'd make for the best video. Of course, coming off two fabulous videos in a row, that wouldn't be a bad idea, despite me being one who raised my hand for the title track.
