Wow, a little late is better than never; this should've been released as the first single. Whoo, this qualifies for a re-entry in my chart, haha.

I'm sure I'm probably the only one who is disappointed (if not particularly surpised) that they went with this. First off, I think this song is overrated - this kind of stuff should have stayed in the '80s. Secondly, I think this was best suited to the purpose it had when it was first leaked - kind of a "buzz" song to cater to diehard fans and college radio. I would've rather seen something like "Ten Speed (of God's Blood and Burial)" released.

The Suffering was the first single.

I saw a video for this song back in September. why on earth is it being released now? when I first saw this thread, I thought it was from 2005 lol They originally chose this to be the first single right before the album was released, and after making the video changed it to The Suffering. If I knew this was going to be their second single back then, I would have rather have had this as their first one because of its sweet intro.

I hope this is true, but I don't see it anywhere on AllAccess or FMQB.

I seriously doubt C&C can score bigtime success with a track that is over 6 minutes long, even with a radio edit. Only Tool can actually do that. EXCELLENT album track, but do they have more songs on this album (perhaps one 3-4 1/2 minutes) that can be released?

Ah, okay... I was looking in the Modern Rock section.

I haven't seen the video, but apparently it's of an edited version. I've played around with GoldWave and gotten this down to about 4:30, so I think it could work on radio.

"Run" by Snow Patrol did fine, with no chart momentum whatsoever, no convenient chop points in the intro/outro, no image recognition, and it was originally 6 minutes long as well. "Welcome Home"'s only similar disadvantage is the length, which I don't even think will be a factor. Coheed and Cambria is not much of a radio band, but this is clearly their highest potential for having a radio hit.

Okay, I've made edited and unedited versions of "Welcome Home" in a shorter form. (The edited version blanks out "f**king" in the line "f**king up all I do".) They're both 4 minutes and 35 seconds long. PM me if you'd like to hear one or both of them.

I've gotten it to 4 minutes and 12 seconds. I'm in the middle of listening to it.
*edit* Now it's exactly 4 minutes. Kind of sloppy, but it works.

Im canadian so I cant really talk for american radio, but I dont think length has a lot to do with whether a song will do well. Jesus of Suburbia did great on radio. I dont know why there is so much negative towards this song. I think its great! the ending could have been shortened but its still one of my favourite songs.

How did "Jesus of Suburbia" do in Canada? Here, it looks like it has already peaked at about #30. And I have only heard it once on my station, which plays almost all the Green Day golds (including "Nice Guys Finish Last" and some of their lesser known songs). I would hardly call #30 a success, but then again, it WAS a fifth single.
Commercial radio simply won't take so much time out to play an entire 6 minute version without a radio edit. "Schism", of course, is an obvious exception, but that WAS a first (and comeback) single from an enormously influential '90s band. And nu-metal was hitting it big that year...
But....
Point taken.

I cant speak for all over Canada. may have put my foot in my mouth there. but it did really well on the local radio station. it was #1 for a couple of weeks (still is) and was one of the most popular songs of the year. I cant say Coheed will have the same fate. I've never heard them on my radio station. however it just goes to show that lengthy songs do have a place on radio.

I LOVE this. It's better than "The Suffering." I hope it goes Top 10 on Alternative.

I just can't get into this single.
"The Suffering", for me, was far better than the obnoxious "A Favor House Atlantic" and was considerably better than "Blood Red Summer".
While I don't believe "Welcome Home" is as novelty-esque as the two singles from Vol. III, I just can't warm up to it. Maybe because it's too slow.
