I don't know that this is a single. I know it's a teaser for their upcoming album called Welcome To The Drama Club that is supposed to come out sometime before the end of the year through Eleventyseven, but I haven't heard anyone say that it's a single.

Besides the pointless intro, its not a bad song. I could see it doing something if it actually is released as a single to Alternative.

That's because the lead single was the lame "Volvo Driving Soccer Mom". Come to think of it, was there even a second single from that album?

Yeah, I wanna say it was called "The New York Times," or something. I'd recognize the title for sure, if that's not it.

Weird place for it to go for adds. I wonder why it's not going to alternative. Yeah, I wanna say it was called "The New York Times," or something. I'd recognize the title for sure, if that's not it. It was "The New York Times". A shame they went with arguably the worst two tracks on the album. There were so many better songs that should've been promoted, like "Blackjack", "New Blue Champion", and "I Want To Die A Beautiful Death". But at least this time they're not under pressure from a major label, so they can put out what they feel instead of what they're forced to do.

I never knew they went 2 singles deep with their last album.
Volvo Driving Soccer Mom was terrible. And it just so happens our station loves it.

I refuse to believe it was Everclear's decision to make that song, considering they had never made a song like that before, and they haven't made one like that since. It'd be easier to swallow a story that their label found a Blink-182 b-side and forced them to cover it at gunpoint.

I kind of liked that song, but I do agree it was a huge departure from Everclear's usual subject matter. It was better than Bowling For Soup's "1985", that's for sure.
Everclear is a band that's grown on me over the years. I used to hate them because I thought every song of theirs sounded the same, and they never grew as a band. I still think that, but I guess I don't mind it as much.

Hater? Bling?
Everclear and The Killers have been watching too many rap videos.

I heard this a couple months ago on their myspace....It's a good song, nothing amazing, but it's good.
I can't wait for the new album - I love me some Everclear.

It's funny. Everclear are from here in Portland, oregon where I live now, and I don't hear ANYONE talking about their forthcoming album here.
If you walk around in Portland, you'll hear a lot of people talking about music you've never heard of like Pink Martini, Telepopmusik and Watsonville Patio, or if it is on the radio more eclectic names like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Ani DiFranco always seem to come up (Portland takes their music SOOOOOOOOO dang seriously that if you mention any name that has sold platinum, it's more than likely someone you tell it too will roll their eyes at you)
I often criticize those who get so wrapped up in just a few popular names and don't make an effort to expand their horizons into other great music out there, but all the same I also criticize those who go the other extreme and act as though the more and more you associate yourself with artist names that are literally untouchable and unknown in all the rest of the world, the cooler you are, and once one of those artists happen to begin rising in fame, even if they stay true to their original uncommerical sound they ditch them cold turkey and act as though the band is poison to their cool credibility. That annoys me too, and though Portland is such a spectacular, standout city in many ways, they're too much of the latter extreme in terms of music and that sort of elitism and pretentiousness can be bothersome sometimes.
It feels like their own city has turned on them somehow. I don't know how often that happens.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

The problem with releasing a non-representative song as your lead single.

Apparently Greg Eklund isn't their drummer anymore. I recently read in AP's annual 100 bands to watch for issue, that he and his brother are in a trio with some girl, and it's called the Oohlas.

Oh, Art is the only original member left. The other two split to form their own bands, so Art picked up four new guys. Maybe it takes two people each to equal their power. Doesn't matter though. As long as Art's in it, it's Everclear.

Everclear were one of my favorite bands from the '90s, but I agree that their material never really progressed. Beyond Sparkle & Fade, they never really took it to the next level, and their songs seemed to become interchangeable by the time Songs From An American Movie Vol. I came out. That said, every band I like has its flaws, and I still listen to "Heartspark Dollarsign" and "Heroin Girl" on my mp3 quite frequently because I never hear them on the radio.
It's also quite unnatural for me to think of five members when I think of Everclear. The vast majority of alternative music fans, who take older styles of music (i.e. New Wave & Grunge) quite seriously, probably will be skeptical to welcome the new Everclear, and given the sound their sound hasn't changed much even after the lineup change, I will predict that this doesn't outpeak "Volvo Driving Soccer Mom". The upside for this album is one top 30 single and a second single that peaks outside the top 30. Everclear are like Live, except that they still actually give a damn about writing music fit for our alternative taste.

Everclear existed for at least 10 years as a trio. Their last two albums bombed, two of the guys left, and now Art wants people to embrace Everclear again, but as a quintet?? Why didn't he just consider it a solo record, like he'd been wanting to do for so long? Without Craig and Greg, he won't find too many willing to embrace "Everclear" in present day.

I don't know. It's been my experience that the majority of Everclear fans consider Everclear to largely be Art anyway and are fine with the change.

So I figured I'd let everyone know that Everclear's new album leaked. If you're into the lighter stuff from them with sort of a folk type feel, then its a great album for those fans. I personally really can't decide on what to think of it. While I don't think its bad at all, the songs don't seem so memorable and not too catchy from my first listen, but I'll give it another try before kicking it to the curb.
