I'm not really sure how this is going to be received. Their previous album was supposed to be their big breakthrough, but that didn't really happen. I'm not even a big fan. Their singles are good, but I just have no interest in their albums.

Their singles are good, but I just have no interest in their albums. Well it looks like this one is really being primed to be their breakout considering who's been working on it with them. Mark Trombino, Howard Benson, and Chris Lord-Alge to be exact. I know producers and mixers don't necessarily equal success, but those guys have been involved with a lot of hitmakers, so I wouldn't be surprised if they gave Sugarcult enough of a punch to help them break through.

It was announced today that Sugarcult's new album will be titled "Lights Out". Thank god there's a clear difference between them and P.O.D. Can't bands come up with any original names anymore? Jeez

But one is a song and the other an album. That distinction is key.

Yeah, I think its not too great, but still catchy enough. I can tell its definitely the same Sugarcult as I've been loving for the past 5 years, but the singer's voice seems to be filtered or something. Typically, his voice seems to be really clear and singing above the instruments. It doesn't meet the expectations I was hoping for, but I'd still expect it to peak somewhere in 10-20 range on Alternative.

Sugarcult performed at my school last spring with a couple other bands whose names escape me (one was the Battle of the Bands winner the previous night). Sadly, I did not see Sugarcult (I could have very easily; looking back I regret not going).
Whatever happened to bands like the Riddlin' Kids, Count the Stars, and 2 Skinnee J's?

Whatever happened to bands like the Riddlin' Kids, Count the Stars, and 2 Skinnee J's? 2 Skinnee J's are the only one of the three still around unfortunately. Riddlin' Kids broke up last summer and Count The Stars broke up I believe about 2 years ago. I especially miss Riddlin' Kids. I felt they had great potential to make it big, but the chance never came.

This is a catchy number. It definately has to grow on me. I am not going to spin this just yet. I liked their other songs such as "She's The Blade" & "Memory".

The new album in my opinion is pretty damn impressive. I think it probably is their best yet with a harder edge in the beginning to some slower tunes towards the second half. I think Do It Alone might not have been the best choice as for a single since there are some more memorable choices on there. I really like Riot and Explode, and I have a feeling if there's a second single Made A Mistake will be it.

I would be so much more comfortable if the video didn't feature so much nudity in the background. Not because I'm a 700 Club member of the Christian right (which, for the record, I'm not) but because it looks so intentionally risque that it is quite tacky. It makes the think the content could actually be about "masturbation"[/Hank Hill].
Musically, it's a welcome progression from their previous, more summer-poppy material. But the members need a wardrobe change - they just look too similar to bands like 30 Seconds To Mars and the Lostprophets who have also taken that Interpol suits-and-slick-long-hair look to annoying levels.
I love the song, though. But, seriously, I can't tell if that's Ian Watkins or Dan Kessler or Tim Pagnotta.

That's a damn shame that that's become some "in" look all of a sudden. Not because it's necessarily a bad, look, but I adore Lostprophets and 30 Seconds to Mars and Interpol are pretty cool, too. And now with a far lesser band like Sugarcult (and lord knows who else), too many cooks are spoiling the broth. Anyway, this song is too generic for me to even bother wanting a copy of. I guess "She's the Blade" was the tipping point into mediocre singles for me. Yeah, I know this is only the one right after that.
