The last time New York City had Country was the many 107.1s, and I remember it having a rating near 1. True, but their signals were so bad that it barely counts. The New Jersey 107.1 did pretty well though, showing that there is an audience for Country there.

A station in Buffalo is on the Rhythmic panel and it has a really pop/rock playlist.

KUPA 1370 which is currently simulcasting 99.5 KHUI will be making a format change soon according to a Star Bulletin article. Salem Media of Hawaii owns 95.5 KAIM (Christian AC) 97.5 KHNR (News/Talk) 99.5 KHUI (Classic Hawaiian) 107.9 KGMZ (Oldies) 760 KGU (Religious) 870 KAIM (Classic Country) 1170 KHCM (Country) 1370 KUPA (simulcasts KHUI) That's eight, one over the maximum allowed by the FCC as far as stations owned in a market. KUPA will be sold and rumor is they will flip to a Hispanic format. Edit: Link.

I thought the limit was eight (5 FM and 3 AM) in which case Salem would be over the AM limit. By owning stations from more than one market that are in the Sarasota-Bradenton ratings, Clear Channel has 16 stations in the Sarasota-Bradenton ratings including four Country stations.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's eight (that's how many stations are in the Clear Channel complex in Tampa).

Clear Channel is having to divest itself of some properties in San Diego. The most likely ones to go are the Mexican-licensed properties (XETRA, XHITZ, etc.). CC sold its U.S. marketing rights of XETRA-AM to a company out of Spain.

I thought the limit was eight (5 FM and 3 AM) The limit is dependent on how many signals there are in the market. For markets with 45+ stations that overlap, the limit is 8, and 5 per band. The overlapping part is key, because owners can own more than 8 stations, and more than 5 per band if some of them have completely different coverage areas. Two examples of owners that exceed the 5 per band limit by using this rule are Entercom in Wilkes-Barre and Equity in Atlantic City. So 4 FMs and 4 AMs is legal. 5 FM-3 AM or 3 FM-5 AM is legal as well. 6 FM-2 AM would be illegal because the 5 per band limit is exceeded on FM. I don't see why Salem would be forced to divest a station in Hawaii.

As others have suggested, KTU "The Beat Of New York" could use a change. They should focus more on dance music, and cut off the old-school disco. It doesn't always fit in. They usually play such a small variety of songs, many of which are quite old.

I could see WFLC Miami changing to a Jack format. In fact, I'm surprised they haven't already. Word. They're supposedly a Hot AC, but they're slow as hell on songs ("Breakaway" is new music!) and heavy on the 80s, even with every weekend being all-80s. When I was in Las Vegas, I really liked their Jack. I also think that in Miami, either Romance 106.7 or Amor 107.5 should flip. Presumably to a Spanish-language format given who they're owned by, but they play almost all the same songs and are right next to the dial to each other. My mom likes them, but she often can't tell if she's listening to one or the other. Which one is getting better ratings? And while this isn't related, i'm pissed that in several months 93 Rock already has actual DJs while Cox never did that for Party 93.1 in like three years.

lol I guess that's cool, but Jessica's cover of TMBA is actually even older than "Breakaway". ;) the newest music they play is on the syndicated Delilah show at night. our AC (Lite 101.5) is actually more recent and better.
I would've preferred that Cox flip them to rock instead of killing party 93.1...I honestly can't imagine Coast's ratings being all that amazing in the past couple of years.

In Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood, WFLC (Coast) has just over half the rating of WLYF (Lite). WLYF is second and WFLC is tied for 16th.

Miami really needs an Alternative station. The only one in South Florida is WPBZ, and anyone south of Northern Broward County can't hear it >:(

All the thug rap stations should change to good music. I agree with you 100%, except it's not gonna happen. Sad but true, these are among the highest rated stations in the country. High ratings = more money from advertisers = less and less good music on the radio...

The fact that a lot of that music has been strangling CHR/Pop radio for the past few years certainly hasn't been good for THAT format either!!!!!
The fact that LA's top two radio stations (CHR/Pop KIIS & CHR/Rhythmic KPWR) have 4.6 and 4.2 ratings respectively is VERY dreadful, to put it mildly!!!!

Why did Salem have to move Talk KHNR to FM? In the meantime Country KHCM is on AM. I think it should be the other way around. I really don't see the hype with FM Talk.

Infinity needs to change one of their two Country stations here in Tampa Bay (and they may end up doing so eventually, with Clear Channel recently launching a Country outlet of their own). I'm hoping for a Hot AC/AAA, along the lines of the fondly remembered (by me, anyway) Star 95.7 (Mix 100.7 is billed Hot AC, but they lean too AC for my tastes). As for the Infinity Country stations, WQYK is second so they won't go anywhere. WYUU got passed by new Clear Channel station WFUS so WYUU is the one that would change if either of them do. There's rumors floating around (at least on radio-info.com) that WYUU (Outlaw 92.5) could switch formats as early as tomorrow (possibly to Spanish). Guess we'll find out soon...

Nope, they're still broadcasting as Country... but Infinity in Tampa just registered the domain name "LaNueva925.com" (currently showing as under construction). So I'd expect a switch sometime very soon.

Apparently they're a Tropical format (I'm not familiar enough with Latin music to know the difference, lol).

(Monday 8/15) KAIM AM 870 drops Classic Country for a simulcast with News/Talk KHNR FM 97.5. Also changes call letters to KHNR-AM.
KAIM-AM never made a dent in the ratings so it was time for a change. However, AM 870 has a lousy signal in the downtown and Kalihi areas in particular because of two transmitters in the area and the AM 870 transmitter is on Molokai. It won't help 97.5's low ratings much.

Purchase of KUPA-AM is completeA $650,000 deal for the purchase of KUPA-AM 1370 made in July has finally closed, according to Kalil & Co., the Arizona-based broker in the transaction. Broadcasting Corporation of America, headed by Utah-based attorney Nathan Drage, plans sports programming for the station, according to a statement from Kalil. Drage said in July he was considering Hispanic programming for the station and was reviewing a variety of programming sources. He could not be reached for comment yesterday. KUPA, formerly owned by Utah-based Legacy Communications Corp., has been simulcasting the traditional Hawaiian music format of KHUI-FM 99.5, owned by Calif.-based Salem Communications Corp. -- KUPA went silent sometime last week. Honolulu already has Sports KKEA- the ESPN Radio affiliate. I don't know if KUPA and its proposed sports format can survive here but I'm intrigued. Will it carry Fox Sports Radio? Will it mark the return of Dodgers baseball/Lakers basketball on the radio? Which sports teams will they carry, if any?

I've said it many times on radio-info, I'll say it here as well. In Pittsburgh, 93.7 K-Rock (WRKZ) should flip back to CHR/Pop (better known as B-94, the CHR Legend of Pittsburgh). They flipped to Rock in July 2004 b/c they picked up the Howard Stern Morning show. Ratings were low for B-94, but nowhere near as low as they are at the moment! David Lee Roth is an asshole and his show won't last another month. K-Rock is now amongst the lowest-rated radio stations in Pittsburgh. Bring back B-94!
