The Killers vs. Jet this fall. Judging by simple word of mouth, I think the Killers' new album will be more highly anticipated. I think Jet chose an EXCELLENT fourth single to follow up the lukewarm "Rollover D.J." with their last album. I hope Jet can rebound and pull maybe a top 5 and a top 15. I think that would be a success. Not an excuse for their album, but they performed very well chartwise considering you still need to say their name a second time before most music fans will understand who you are talking about. I'm excited for this, and a #4 peak with 22 or so weeks will be good, IMO.

It'll be interesting to see how Jet performs the second time arond. Jet got accused a lot during their debut era for being a total copycat band and even got labeled by many radio personalities as "The s**tty Beatles" (a reference from "Wayne's World") blasting their credibility. I think it'll all depend on the lead single where Jet goes from here ultimately. They did get two moderate hits from "Get Born" on mainstream radio ("Are You Gonna Be My Girl?", "Look What You've Done") and then of course "Cold Hard b**ch" was a huge smash on the rock formats, so they had appeal across multiple audiences the last time around. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I wonder if they expedited the adds date of this single once they saw Wolfmother ripping off their act.

Wolfmother is more like Monster Magnet than Jet. Yeah, but what I'm saying is they're both Australian bands who sound a little too much like 70's classic rock bands and, from what I've heard, can't seem to create a semblance of an original sound for themselves. So, you know, I think Jet kinda wants everyone to remember they're the ones who started that act. (And yes, I am being tongue-in-cheek. And yes, I don't care for either band's music.)

The new single is also streaming via their MySpace page: www.myspace.com/jetNo kidding, this is quite different. I think this will require some time to grow on me, as I didn't really like this upon first listen. The vocals sound completely different. I can't even tell if it's the lead singer just aiming for a higher note and occasional falsetto, or if it's another band member guest vocalling on this track. I have a feeling this single is going to flop. Only loyalists to the band will recognize this as Jet immediately, while others won't identify them. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Sounds like AC/DC mixed with a flare of 70's soul.
Kind of reminds me of Original Fire in that respect.
It's every bit as catchy as some of their older stuff, but I don't think it's going to do that well. Don't think it's going to do poorly, but it's not going to be as successful as "Are You Gonna Be...?"

I heard this on WOCL on the way to class this morning. The DJ said he liked it so much that he just had to play it twice in a row. I thought it was damn catchy, but a little different than Jet's other material. I think this will do very well, but I'm not sure about a #1 debut single again.

Don't think it's going to do poorly, but it's not going to be as successful as "Are You Gonna Be...?" Yeah, by "flop" I mean that it'll rise pretty fast up the chart and launch into the Top 20 quickly and such, but the track will have no staying power and fall just as fast. Somehow I think I'm beginning to see why "Blue Orchid" from The White Stripes flopped; you couldn't recognize Jack White's vocals at all like everyone warmed up with on "Seven Nation Army", and even the sound was noticably different despite the catchy hook. I think "Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is" will have a short chart life for a similar reason. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Heard this this morning. Didn't care for it a bit. Better than "Cold Hard Bitch" and "Rollover D.J.," but short of "...Be My Girl" and shorter still of "Look What You've Done."

Sounds even more like the Vines than their last album did.
Hopefully, with this song, people will view them less as a Beatles rip-off band. Their music isn't original, but the retro-feel isn't meant to be taken too seriously. Maybe they can continue their career now that the garage-rock fad of '02 and '03 seems to be over, and other '80s-style bands seem to be in now.
I'm surprised by the falsettos in the verses. This is off to a rather sluggish start, so far (considering they had five top 5s from their debut album). Hopefully this can hit top 10 with longevity.

They have Five Top 5s from their debut? I only remember "Are You Gonna Be My Girl?" and "Cold Hard Bitch" going Top 5.

They have Five Top 5s from their debut? I only remember "Are You Gonna Be My Girl?" and "Cold Hard b**ch" going Top 5. They've had three, which is still impressive ("Are You Gonna Be My Girl?", "Cold Hard B****", "Look What You've Done") while the remaining single "Rollover D.J" peaked at #13 I believe. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

That's very close to correct. According to Wikipedia, here's how each song peaked.
Are You Gonna Be My Girl Alternative: #3 and Active Rock: #7
Cold Hard Bitch Hit #1 on both Alternative and Active Rock
Rollover DJ Peaked at #14 on both Alternative and Active Rock
Look What You've Done Alternative: #3 and Active Rock #33
I'm surprised to see that Look What You've Done was the only single that seemed to well in Canada, peaking at #22 on their rock chart.

Yes, sorry about all the commotion. I meant they had three top fives on the alternative format; not five. Did they ever actually release a fifth single from Get Born (I know it went nowhere if they did...) What is everyone's prediction on this song? One side of me believes that a change of pace could help this band, whose last music sounded all too similar. But they might have been in over their head last time around, so who knows

Did they ever actually release a fifth single from Get Born (I know it went nowhere if they did...) Well, Get Me Outta Here hit #37 in the UK, but as far as the States, if they had a fifth single here, it didn't reach the top 50. I'm predicting this song to go Top 10, but I don't think Top 3. I'll go out on a limb here and say it will peak at #6.

I thought all of their singles from Get Born were excellent. And I think the new song is definitely up-to-par with those hits... Very excited for their new one.

Okay, this is just flat out awesome. What I LOVE about this song is it is a brash bold statement that says "no compromise, we are just gonna rock out and here it is".
This is not a radio song per se and I love it. Sounds great, better than I expected.

This is not a radio song per se and I love it. Sounds great, better than I expected. But wouldn't their singles from "Get Born" also follow that same point? "Cold Hard B****" especially was very much a straight-forward rocker, which also so happened to be a chart-topper. It certainly had a hook, but it was also a very epic-sounding direct rocker that leaned heavily on that vintage 70's sound. Sincerely, Noah Eaton
