question: (because I'm a bit curious) I went to a party and there were a lot of gay men there. The host is gay himself. Anyways they were all just gushing over Keane, fanning over them, literally! They were all madly in love with the lead singer and wouldn't shut up about this. And the two albums were played over and over on the speaker system. Is Keane sort of, shall we say, icons in most of the general gay community?

This reminds me of that scene in 40-Year Old Virgin where the one guy says "You know how I know you're gay? You like Coldplay." Keane's not Coldplay, but they're close enough.
Anyway, if I may throw my thoughts out freely, I would like to comment on this question. My brother is gay and he for one probably would not listen to Keane. Not to say he would dislike them, but his tastes in music run a little differently. And Idiot and I had a roommate who claimed to be bi (and for the record, he was pretty feminine sometimes) and he hates Keane with a passion. Really, people have different tastes in music no matter what their sexual preference is, and I don't think there's any possible way that the two could be linked, which is kind of what is suggested here.
This is just my guess, but I don't think Keane is an icon of gay people so much as an icon of the people you know. In fact, they seem kind of obsessed, which is a little scary. Now, judging from the people that I've met, it is my opinion there are two kinds of gay people in the world: normal people, and then there are the ones who take their gayness to an over-the-top level and make everyone else look bad because they are supremely annoying. I'm guessing from your story that the people you know might fall into the latter category.
Anyone feel free to negate my statements here. This is certainly a more interesting topic than discussing the single.

I really like this song. It's really catchy; almost better than their first single. I agree with Penance. Sexual preference does not really encompass musical taste. At least, I really don't see how it would. Stereotypically, homosexual men are portrayed as loving "divas" and dance music, particularly house, like Madonna or Gloria Gaynor. Maybe it's the fact that gay clubs have been around for a while now and most fo them became famous around the time acceptance and tolerance grew and all this AIDS breakout developed, around the 80's. In conclusion, I do see that anyone gay, bi, lesbian, straight, ugly, beautiful, or whatever label given to them or by themselves can like any different type of music. It'd be a generalization (and often an incorrect one) to say that one specific group loves only one specific artist or genre of music. I myself, although I do like Keane and Madonna, also like Gorillaz and Avenged Sevenfold and I like Nelly Furtado and Tim McGraw. I don't see how liking any of them warrants me being gay or not. This is a really good song, though. lol

Hmmm. I was wondering how they would follow up "Is It Any Wonder?", which was a departure of sound for them. Their songs have such a winter-y quality that bands like Embrace, Athlete or Coldplay have (hmmm...all British bands). Speaking of which, I could start a topic on how certain bands I listen to correspond with certain seasons, but I wouldn't know where to start.
A Hot AC hit...not so sure about alternative. The first single did as well as it did because it really was upbeat. This isn't a ballad, per se, but just look at Soul Patrol, err...Snow Patrol.

The lead singer checked into rehab for cocaine-I dont know why this shocked me, but it did. Tom always seemed too mild and sweet and...wussy to be a drug addict. I havent heard this song, but would like to eventually (oh and I hope rehab goes well for him)

I think this is their weakest single ever. This is totally not interesting, lyrically or musically. Sounds like a filler to me. I was actually thinking of getting their new album based on the 1st single, but after this I'll probably pass on it.

^ Hmm, wow, I totally disagree there.
Is this getting a US release? It's amazing how Keane are huge everywhere else but here...

I heard it twice today and while I liked it at the time, I cannot remember anything about it just yet.
