Ah, yes, of course. I know that name after all, in hindsight. I was wondering when they were ever going to put something out. They might do a little better than the Panic Channel, but I'd be surprised if it makes the Top 20.

It's ironic when people justify a song's success (sometimes rightfully so) by simply explaining how "radio-friendly" it is, and yet the Panic Channel bombed so badly with an extremely "radio-friendly" song. This is less radio-friendly, but, like Nick, I believe this will do slightly better if not for the fact that, upon first listen, it sounds harder and angst-driven, and is produced quite well. It has a Velvet Revolvery bridge, and I definitely recognize Richard's vocals, even if this band sounds very little like Filter or STP. I like how the vocals seem to fade but the guitar sounds continue into a dramatic U2-ish ending. ^^^Now, should I go ahead and apply for Rolling Stone now, or what?

I'm impressed with this song. I think this should do great on Active Rock and not nearly as well on Alternative. Definitely should do better than Panic Channel, despite I think it not being as radio friendly. I missed hearing Richard Patrick's voice for a damn long time, so this is nice to hear him again. I don't think it has the drive like most of Velvet Revolver's stuff, and I couldn't describe this any better than it sounding very similar to old STP with Patrick as the vocalist.

He was never a part of it as far as I know. He's currently operating Bomb Shelter Studios in Los Angeles.

How are commercial radio stations not all over this? Quite a conundrum. I'll hold out final judgment until the song starts to pick up steam, because songs like "Crazy Bitch" took awhile to take off here. But I don't see how the fact that it is a supergroup alone can carry an otherwise great song to the depths of, oh...top 20?
It's almost as if the fact that it is S.T.P. and Filter have hurt the group's potential. Radio stations, please ignore this, but cue the "Hey Man Nice Shot" and "Interstate Love Song", please.

OK, finally starting to take off. A +65 bullet at #45, it will likely finish around #41 by final update Sunday and will probably make a top 35 debut the week after.
I listened to this on Loveline and was blown away. For whatever reason, it's really relieving to have a song I have personally listened make the radio. In this case, if this doesn't hit top 10 based on quality alone, then I just don't understand the alternative "environment" these days, whatever you interpret that to mean.

I didn't even realize what this was at first, but I love it. Much better than "Why Cry", for what it's worth.

Unless you're saying that this band is better than The Panic Channel. Yeah, I think what he meant was that the lead single from this supergroup beats the lead single from that supergroup. I don't understand how these are bombing as badly as they are. What kind of sick world do we live in where groups with name-power have not only limited radio/sales success, but almost no radio/sales success? Wasn't it only one year ago that '90s names Beck, Garbage, and Oasis were able to coax big hit songs without even having one top 40 hit from their previous albums? Or has everyone just forgotten about Jane's, old Chili Peppers, STP, and Filter at this point? Every time a station spins one "Been Caught Stealing" or "Hey Man Nice Shot", I just shake my head in utter disbelief.

You'd be doing a lot of head shaking if you were a daily listener to WJRR in Orlando. I very rarely listen to that station anymore, and hear both of those songs at least once a week on there. They both are probably in their Top 20 playlist. That really sickens me.

They both are probably in their Top 20 playlist. That really sickens me. I could honestly create a separate topic on this altogether, because this is a subject that has bothered me about the direction that alternative radio has taken in the last five or six years, since albums by Pearl Jam, STP, and the Pumpkins have been released but couldn't hold near the lasting power because the stations couldn't stop playing their gold songs. I'll never understand why these stations remain so infatuated with old PJ, Offspring, STP, and Jane's Addiction (among many other) '90s songs, and every time the bands release a new album with subsequent singles, the stations never play them long enough or give them a fighting chance in the first place. On top of that, the alternative format is slowly becoming more like Active Rock, or even Adult Contemporary, where recurrents and golds rule the playlists. I'm a big believer that alternative stations should focus more on what's new, and stop shoving these same songs down the throats of listeners for years on end. My station, for example, has played "Gotta Get Away", "Even Flow", and "Plush" in HEAVY rotation consistently for five years. I wouldn't mind if the stations played a greater variety of older songs, but I find myself changing the station every time one of these golds comes on. It's like Pearl Jam or 311 will likely NEVER satisfy the panel or audiences enough to actually eliminate some of the play of their golds and replace them with NEW singles from the band, no matter how strong their new material is. Again, I could go on, but those are my feelings in a nutshell. To appeal to younger audiences and boost ratings, modern rock stations must move forward and play more of what's newer rather than play more of what's older.

Well, the way I see it, we true rock music lovers have to realize that the public just doesn't care that much anymore. I mean, Richard Patrick (whose band was on the decline four years ago) fronting a band featuring the DeLeo brothers from STP? The casual music fan could tell you what Scott Weiland looks like, but as for anyone else in Filter or STP, no dice. Hence: nobody cares too much.
Same thing goes for the Panic Channel: the only one in the band with any real visible star power still is Dave Navarro. And his rep has taken a hit, due to whoring himself for a paycheck so much over the past few years. So in terms of star power, it's almost like he's putting out another solo album. Look at it that way.

I wish them lots of success. I'm a huge fan of both STP and Filter.
